Video Transcript for Lippert Thin Shade Complete Window Kit Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the Lippert Thin Shade. So it's gonna be a window kit you get. And you can install on your door for some privacy or to block the sun. Let's check it out. On some RV windows, you don't have any coverage.

So that means the sun's gonna come right through into your rig or people can see right into it and you have no privacy. So that's what this is a good idea for, to get this shade so you can bring it down wherever you need it to, to block just a little bit of sun and to still see outside, or just have complete privacy and block all the sun. You can do that too. Here on this thin shade, all you have to do is lift up on this portion here on the bottom. You can stop anywhere you want.

So if you just want a little sun in, you can. Or if you wanna fully push it all the way up, now you have full access to your tinted window. So it's still gonna block some of the sun, but now you can see when people are coming up to the door or just see outside. Now this is gonna be inside the door as well. I like that part.

So it's not a shade that's attached to the outside that will go back and forth and maybe slam against the door. If you leave it open, that can be annoying. If it's windy or you go to shed it, those old school shades might hit up against the door. This one's all internal. I like how it looks a little sleeker because of that.

It's not gonna be bouncing around in here. It's tight in this track. So it's real easy to push up or bring back down. Inside, with the door closed, I wanted to show you right here how much sun it actually keeps out. You see, not much is making it through. It's lit up just a little bit but there's no lines of sunshine coming through. Now our neighbor already has the thin shade installed today, so we're not gonna be installing it. But looking at the instructions and reading some comments from our other neighbors online, it doesn't take that long to do. With the complete kit, it took anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes. Overall, I do like the thin shade. I like how easy it is to use. I like that it's inside the door, not something hanging out in the exterior that bounces off the door anytime it moves. Now, one thing I will point out, if you do have a screen door, you won't be able to use it from the inside, so you have to adjust it from the outside and then close the door, but it's not that big a deal. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. Hope this helped.

This was easy to install but definitely needs two people, one on either side of the door. The instructions did not say to use sealant but I used silicone under the frame. The frame snaps so no need to drill. The pull down shade works great for sun blackout. I replaced the original screwed in frame which had the 'fuzzy' window that you could not see through. This has a smoked clear glass, very nice.

Still looks great and the shade works for blackout privacy. Easy to pull up and down but occasionally on a very rough and shaky road the shade will slide down.

We have put these in two of our campers now. They are a very easy install and we love that you can see out the window. Plus the mini blind is great for anytime you want to black out the window.

Works great. Easy install, just followed instructions.

No problem with the door shade. Appreciate your help. Thanks

Window was packaged & installed smoothly. However the window blind deformed and is now inoperable.

Having the window blind deform is a bit shady for this part. It does have a one-year warranty and I can send you the warranty details to you via email if you are interested. Once it is past the one year warranty the shade can be replaced. It is part # LC786037.

We love the windows! They replaced the standard bubble-glass windows and give us the opportunity to see through the door when the shade is up while also allowing us to block the sun when the shade is down.

Problems: First, the instructions in our windows didn't include anything about replacing the old windows; they only described how to install the shades *in* an existing window (they may have been incorrectly included in the kit; the instructions stated they were for the shade only). Second, the package contents list was incomplete, with no mention of the 16 window-removal tabs or how to use them. I had to find their purpose by searching various videos. Had I known what they were for to begin with, it would have been much easier for me to separate the two pieces of the window frame after taking them out of the box. (Again, this might have been because the wrong instruction set was accidentally put in the boxes.) Third, the shades can sometimes bunch up or fold incorrectly when they're being raised. I'd like the design better if the pleated material was wide enough on the sides so that the cord passed through holes in each pleat. I think thais design change would eliminate the bunching or mis-folding.

A couple of installation suggestions: First, it's MUCH easier (as other reviewers have said) to install these windows with two people - one on each side of the door. Second, once the pieces are combined, I suggest using two rubber mallets around the frame - one as a "hammer" and one as an "anvil" - to push the connectors together another "click" or two and give the frame a tight fit to both sides of the door.

Took 14 days to get it

Yikes, that is a long time. It looks like you used the free shipping option. With this option, the least expensive method for shipping your order will be used. This means that the delivery date can sometimes be longer than expected. For future reference, if you are needing an order by a specific time, I highly recommend getting expedited shipping.

I love our new Thin Shade Window for the door to our RV. The old frosted glass made it impossible to see out. The tinted glass will keep the heat out a bit and allow us to see visitors at the door. The install was a breeze, literally 10 minutes. The only downfall is our screen door. With the screen door in place you actually have to be outside of the screen door to raise and lower the shade, but I imagine we will leave the shade up the majority of the time and only put it down before we go to bed, so no real issue.
I am super thankful that etrailer.com was able to get it to us so quickly. My husband broke the door glass with a rock kicked up by the riding lawn mower the day before our trip. etrailer.com got it to us within days, even after the dealership down the road said it would "take weeks to order". Their service is second to none. I wish my lawn guy was as good at his job.

by:

love It!!!!! Ordered this to replace the towel hanging in front of the window to block the sun. We Inverted the shade frame when attached to the door so I can pull the shade up from the bottom vs down from the top to part way block the bottom and still provide light and visibility from the top. Love the tinted glass, can see out the door but again still provide privacy from the outside, it now matches the other windows.

by:

Fit & Finish of the product is very good. Minimal difficulty in installation. As others have stated, ensure that the Blue Masking Tape is used while both removing old door window & installing the Lippert window.

by:

Window was not hard to install . Probably did it in 45 minutes , taking my time and making sure I get it right . the frame (outside exterior width ) that comes with the new window is a tad smaller than the existing frame on my jayco White hawk . Window fits in the opening just fine . time will tell on how the performance works on the shade , so far so good . Now in the morning , the sunlight is not coming through the bedroom , which is nice .

by:

Awesome upgrade from our original clear frosted door glass by Lippert. Installation was easy with the exception making sure you have it centered in the opening just right. Having a second person definitely helps. I liked the the original because of the screws the only reason why I gave this four stars, it clicks in. Time will tell on how well it holds up. I like the idea of being able to see out our door now and the mini blind feature. I recommend to work a little lubricant in the locking tabs for the blind feature. They can be a little trying.

by:

There is nothing I hate worse than not being able to see out the front door. Adding this window made the door look like the rest of the rig (black tinted windows) and still gave the option for privacy. The added light and visibility outside was certainly worth the price.

Installation was easy, as I was replacing an existing window. Installation instructions were clear and easy to follow.

I would definitely buy this window again. It'll be at the top of our list when we replace our existing RV.

by:

Great replacement window for our RV door, we can see out now! 20 minutes from start to finish. Always happy with our purchases from etrailer! Always fast and good communication.

by:

I was able to put the window in easily, took about an hour to cut a hole in the door and install. This was the no screw version so it took a few minutes to get the guides all aligned and frames together. The shade installed easily. Likely to get another for the other door.

by:

This completely changed the look of my entry door. It was easy to install once I removed the existing window. I no longer have to cover the window with a towel. I highly recommend this window, and etrailer.com

by:

We got our RV window on time. It took less than an hour to install and looks great!!!

by:

4 stars for Lippert for not including installation instructions for the window.
5 stars for etrailer for having those instructions available for download.
The inner and outer frame came connected. I had no idea how to get them apart until I downloaded and read the installation instructions. After that, installation was a breeze.
The shade is hard to go up and down. This is due to my older RV door being a bit thinner than most current doors. Regardless, I am quite satisfied with this purchase. I am enjoying the ability to see out the door now.
Thank you etrailer for providing the instructions that Lippert so carelessly did not provide.

by:

Excellent product and extremely easy to install and use. I would highly recommend to purchase.

by:

Installed into a cargo trailer door that didn't have a window and went in without any issues. Only 4 stars because the shade does seem to misalign and come out easily if you don't hold it square while raising or lowering it. I have to use 2 hands every time to keep it from coming out.

by:

I haven’t installed the new window yet but I do think they need to send more detailed install a d old window removal. Including some pictures/diagrams for both options of clips and screw mounting

shipping was fast, product fit and installed real nice, original window in door to sleeping area let to much light in so I changed it out with the thing shade window kit, I like it and it helped with the light problem.

window shade is good only thing is you cant open and close the shade its between the door screen and door

by:

perfect fit - lippert's design cheapened the original design (looks pretty hard to take apart after install), put this is typical with aftermarket redesigns. Original had actual metal screws; new design has a "one shot" plastic screw, like a zip tie - once on, it ain't coming off. However the glass is great, high quality for today's world.

by:

Good quality. Excellent fit. The inside and outside frames were clipped together in the box on receipt but it was not too difficult to separate them using the supplied clip unlatching tools. As others have said, the instructions are a bit lacking on the actual window installation but the process is largely intuitive. I hope the exterior frame lasts longer and doesn’t crack like the cheaper version I previously acquired from [online[.

by:

It only came with instructions how to install the shade in the window, but nothing on how to install the window itself. Needs a guide for cutting the window opening in the door as tolerances for the window frame are very small. It was hard to cut the opening exactly correct, especially at the rounded corners. But it ended up installing okay. I would prefer the frame halves were screwed together instead of snapped.

Product is as described.. fast delivery… as promised.
