Video Transcript for Ultra-Fab Trailers and RV Power Twin II Manual Stabilizer Review

Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com. Now, one of the most common problems when you're out camping, whether it's going to be a travel trailer, a fifth-wheel camper, whatever you've got, is the movement that can be felt inside of the camper when you're either trying to relax and watch a movie and the kids are playing around in the back. You just feel that shifting forward and back. Or maybe some people decided to go to sleep and a few people decided to stay up around the bonfire. It happens just about every camping trip I go on. Then you're trying to sneak into the camper, you're trying to kind of ease your way in.

It just makes it pretty difficult. You don't want to wake up the people that went to bed early. Maybe they're going out on a fishing trip, maybe they're going on a hike. You don't want to disrupt that, but you want to enjoy your time too.Basically what we're looking at today is from Ultra-Fab. This is their Twin Stabilizer system.

This is the manual, so no power required, no wires to run. There's really nothing you have to do except for level out your camper and deploy your stabilizers. Now, when we compare these to regular scissor jacks, these are significantly better. You can look through customer reviews, the different things they say. It's crazy how big of a difference there is.

Basically, generally your stabilizer jacks are going to be mounted on a 45-degree angle or maybe straight out from your camper. You get your standard tool and you go down there and you crank them out. But they don't offer a whole lot of front to back or side to side stability. They just keep that tilting to a minimum. When we use something like this, we're going to attach this portion directly to the frame of our camper. That gives us excellent side to side stability, but you notice they're also angled in.

This triangulation prevents this leg from being able to move forward and back so it gives us much, much more stability. Again, looking through the reviews, customers always say, "I wish I would have known about these sooner." "I wish I would've had these sooner." "They make a world of difference." Even on larger campers like your fifth-wheel campers, people say it takes 90 to 95% of that movement out. Overall, your enjoyment level's going to go up. You're not going to be sitting in there and getting seasick because your kids are fighting in the front. I think it's going to be an excellent solution for you and it's designed to fit a wide variety of applications. We can go all the way down to a 48-inch frame width all all the way out to an 80-inch frame width. All of that adjustment happens right here in the middle. You can see we've got a two-piece design, so we've got one that we'll put on either the driver or passenger side, the other piece goes on the opposite side, and they're tied together right here in the middle with this connection plate. You can see all the holes we have to choose from, also several holes on the actual arms here themselves, and they're designed to slide beside each other. You see this one's mounted here, this one's mounted here, so these are completely independently adjustable. Once we get them where we want it matched up to our frame size, we're never going to have to worry about adjusting this again. It's going to come with all the hardware you need to assemble the stabilizers. The only thing that you'll have to pick is what you want to use to attach it to the frame of your camper. You do have six holes here, half inch or three eighths bolts should go through there without any kind of issues, but also you can see some of the smaller holes that we have here. In those you could use some #14 self-tapping screws. Just make sure you get enough of them in there and you run them through your frame properly so you got the support you need. Now, the stabilizers are going to give you 6,000 pounds of capacity. One thing you want to keep in mind though with a stabilizer system like this, it's not used for leveling your camper. You need to get your camper level. Once it's level, we'll take our tool, we'll bring our stabilizers down until they make contact, just give it another crank or two. That's going to give us good support. It's going to take a little bit of that strain off, but we're certainly not going to use these to level our camper. There's available from Lippert the Ground Control TT or the Ground Control 3.0 system. That's an excellent option if you're looking for leveling and stabilization, but it's certainly a much more expensive system as well. You see, it's pretty easy operation going up or down. Now of course, the way we've got it set up here with it not being mounted to a camper, this is moving up and down, but with this being attached to your frame, that leg comes up and down. The tool is nice and long, so even if you do have a slight overhang here coming out to the side you'll be able to get to it and operate it without any kind of issues. Now, we've got a total of 30 inches of travel. Best way to know if these are going to work for your application, make sure the outside to outside of your frame is somewhere between 48 and 80 and make sure in any of your camping situations that from the bottom of your frame down to the ground it's not more than about 28 inches. That should be perfect. Let's say it was 32 or 33 inches. You could always use a few of the Ultra- Fab stackers underneath each leg. That'll give you the clearance you need and still provide you the list, so that's an option, and I also like how they're independently adjustable. We're going to have a screw in here and a screw in here, so even if we are on an unlevel kind of a camping surface, kind of like what we've simulated here, it'll be about five and a half inches difference from side to side. You can still see that we maintain perfect level and as we lift that up it's going to support our camper and it's going to keep us nice and stable. Now, the overall construction is really nice and heavy duty, probably as heavy duty as I've seen on any of these stabilizer systems, especially a little more heavy than what we see out of the Lippert. We've also got a nice large footplate down here. You can see that's got the clear zinc finish on it. That's going to help prevent any rust or any corrosion or anything like that, and all of this steel, it has a black powder coat finish on it. So again, rust and corrosion shouldn't be an issue. Several customers reviewed this after a year of use and said it still looks great. The finish still holds up really well and they're really happy with it.Now, just to give you an idea of the dimension and how large this footplate really is. You can see it's six and a half inches wide. It's going to be eight inches long. That does an excellent job of dissipating that energy out over a greater area and it's drastically going to reduce the amount of sinkage that we get, especially when we compare these to just a standard scissor jet.Now guys, I really feel like this is going to improve your camping situation. I've installed these on several different campers and I really like the way they work and the felt effect that you get is pretty phenomenal. I think you're really going to enjoy it. Now, you might say, "I don't want to crank on them." You've got no need in the world for that, I want to hit some buttons. You can go with the other option from Ultra-Fab. It already has the motors installed and you're going to have your switches. The thing I like about this one, we don't have to run any wires. We don't have to worry about if our battery's dead or something like that. We get out there and we crank them up, but I do understand sometimes you want a little bit more convenience, you want to be a little bit more easy, just hit a couple buttons, get everything taken care of.

If you are looking for "stabilizers" that are strong enough to handle heavy trailers this is the unit for you. A little inconvenient because of the independent screws but they will lift the weight indicated which is why the stabilizers are in quotations.

by:

This product is awesome and has made a substantial difference in the stability of our camper! We have a 32' travel trailer and the factory jacks are sad and could feel every movement of the kids. This has taken away 90% of the movement that we were having before.
If you are not handy plan on having someone install this for you. It's not hard to do but if you don't have some tools for the job you will struggle. It took about 4 hours total to install.

by:

Very happy with the quality of this stabilizer jack!! I currently only have the jack installed on one end of our toy hauler and you can feel the difference in how stable the camper is on one end compared to the other end that still has the scissor type jacks. I will definitely be purchasing a second one!!

I did end up purchasing a second set of these stabilizer jacks a few weeks later and Im very happy I did!!

by:

Helpful hint: Have in home position before tightening all the bolts. Best stabilizer I have found out there.

by:

Product was delivered on time, no problem with assembly I do wish the instructions where larger but went on line and printed it off, well built no problem on install good product

by:

It is awesome!
It does not come with
hardware to mount to the frame and I had to fabricate a bit to make it fit around a support beam.

These jacks are quality built and held up for a 3 month trip to Alaska. I choose to weld the two halves together to minimize the offset. The heavy material made it easy and very sturdy. The system is powerful enough to lift rear of our RV unit partially off the ground but you need to be careful to support the axles so you don't twist the frame on light trailers.

by:

Finally got around to installing my PT II Stabilizers 30" front and rear of our 26' Surveyor. Pre - assembled them to make sure they went together ok. Luckily I had two sources for power front & rear which made wiring easy, I used a Buss block to make all positive connections, grounds straight to frame, soldered all connections and heat srinked to seal. Using the 3/8" self tappers was fun.Well got it all together and all works well makes trailer very stable, don't have to worry about scissor jacks collapsing anymore.

by:

Very pleased. Not that hard to install. These replace the weak stabilizers that came with the trailer. You'll need a jack and an electrical kit to complete the install.

by:

I ordered 2 of these units. I give UPS 1 star because they lost an entire unit so I called etrailer and I give them 5 stars for immediately shipping a third unit. Then the first unit arrived from UPS and they lost the motors and hardware kit. I called etrailer and they are shipping more motors and the hardware kit. Hoping UPS doesn’t lose the parts for the replacements! The photo shows all I received so far for two full kits.

by:

Installed on a 2018 E350 Ford Minnie Winnie. The package arrived really beat up but only a single cover was damaged. It was replaced quickly. Nothing was missing.

I had to shim it down from the frame about 1.5 inches using a bar of 1.5"x3"x 24" inch aluminum stock on each side. Then it would clear the fuel tank and the gray water.

Switches are installed in our garage under the bed. Wiring came from power panel which is fairly close to the switches so it all went fairly well. Wire nuts are not recommended so I had to hunt around to find connectors that would work.

I have not used it for camping so do not how well it will work to stabilize the vehicle. We do a lot of boon docking so will have to have some good blocking to level and stabilize. It feels a little better sitting on the street. I do wish there was a lockout for them being raised before moving the vehicle outside of PARK?

by:

It looks like a great product am anxious to install them.
I have a symbol of them in my garage and I have one with a really crooked foot. The bolt hole on the retracting arm was drilled in the wrong place so it is totally crooked, not a deal breaker though. I’m sure the are more than Adequate

by:

Would have been nice to know that it didn't fit my Grand Design Imagine 22MLE without some "frame modifications", and over $xxxx in installation costs.

Warning to new buyers; DO SOME REAL CLOSE MEASURING TO MAKE SURE THE SYSTEM
WILL FIT BETWEEN ALL ATTACHED HARDWARE, LIKE DUMP VALVES AND DROP FRAMES! any modifications will cost you dearly.

Electric motors are very slow, seems like it takes forever to drop each foot.

BUT----------They do work.

by:

I finished the assembly and install of the power twin II stabilizer and have included pictures of the install. This is a good quality unit and I am very happy with how it works.

by:

After installation the stability or my toy hauler was increased X3. The installation was relatively easy and all that was needed was common tools and a floor jack. Wiring was covered by simple easy to follow instruction. Some shrink wrap and a solder gun make permanent water resistant connections which I recommend.

by:

I got the jack for three reasons. My original jack was intermittent, it was bent and it did not level the trailer because it had only one motor. The new jack works great and it can level the trailer because it has two motors and the power required. It was not the easiest to install because of the increased size and it will not level the trailer if it is off more that 2 inches or so side to side. In spite of these drawbacks and the fact it added weight to the rear of the trailer I am very happy with the new jack.

by:

Your going to love this product. I was able to fit on to a 1987 Avion travel trailer I renovated for my sister (spectacular renovation). It made the camper rock solid. You can't feel anybody walking around, no high wind movement. It felt like we set it on a concrete foundation. It is a well designed product I will use in the future if I renovate another classic beauty, even my own every day travel trailer.

Great product.

by:

The Jacks are considerably more durable well built compared to the Lippert models. The lifting power is real and once on the ground the prevent movement of the RV by orders of magnitude over the other style jacks. I only have one in the center of a long trailer and it has stopped the bouncing and side to side swaying of the trailer. Just stepping onto the stairs to get in its rock solid. Also when all the legs are deployed the doors close way better than they ever had with just the Lippert jacks on the front and back. Definitely recommend to anyone thinking about a better jack than what's provided oem.

by:

Little intimidating at first, just took my time and it went together without any major problem. The problem that I had was dealt with quickly. It's solid and well built. Print on the instructions was a little small for my eyes. Having the instructions on line was a great help.

by:

Really like the ja

by:

I received the leveller/stabilizer as expected. The instructions for installation were clear and I found it easy to assemble and install them. Wiring was a bit tricky because of my trailer design, but worked out fine in the end. I have just returned from a three week trip and can recommend this product whole heartedly. One thought I have had is that a manual version might be satisfactory, using a drill to drive the gears until they engage with the ground, and then using a manual crank after that. The motors are a bit slow to drop the feet to the ground because they also have the necessary torque and gear ratios to lift the corner of the trailer. All in all, a great product.

by:

The stabilizer was a great purchase. It has lived up to it’s description as advertised. I did have to make some alterations. Because I have a slide out carrying rack on my 2010 Cougar 5th wheel, I had to weld the stabilizer to the frame so I could use the slide out rack. It works great. I highly recommend the product.
