Surge actuator has a corrosion-resistant composite master cylinder. Manual lockout keeps brakes from actuating when in reverse. Mount coupler attachments (sold separately) in 1 of 3 positions on channel. Weld-on application.
Features:
Specs:
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.
Manual Reverse Lockout
This actuator has a manual reverse lockout that you can activate so that you can back up without triggering your trailer's disc brakes. To activate the lockout, just rotate the tab on the side of the actuator to the left. Once the lockout has been activated, you can back up your trailer without triggering the trailer brakes. Always remember to restore the tab to its original position before towing normally.
Adjustable Channel Design
The adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator allows for ultimate versatility. Mount almost any type of coupler (sold separately) - from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or clevis attachment - to fit your specific application. In addition, the 3 mounting positions on the channel let you adjust the height of the coupler. Just place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you will be able to tow your trailer levelly.
This actuator is great for tall trailers. This is because the adjustable channel is positioned so that the mounted coupler can sit below the actuator tube, allowing for a greater drop than with a standard center-mounted channel. As a result, you can line up your tall trailer with your tow vehicle's hitch for a level setup.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Demco 8" adjustable channel down hydraulic drum brake actuator with the 8,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer's brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum will push your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle and with a surge brake system then this actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward once your tow vehicle starts to slow down and when this happens, the inner portion of this actuator will contract, which applies force to the master cylinder in the back here, which then in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. This one will use an acetal copolymer lining between the inner tube and the outer tube. Provides a nice smooth operation as the actuator will telescope in and out.
And this one is an adjustable channel design, has three different mounting positions for your coupler to go to. Now the coupler is not included. We do sell that separately on our website and it's usually listed on the product page as a related product. We mentioned this is a channel down design and that allows for a greater drop for taller trailers. Now the channel height we mentioned, we measure from the bottom to the very top is 8".
The width, which will be the inside measurement it's right at 3". It is a heavy duty steel construction, has a nice prime finish to it. And we mentioned the master cylinder in the back here. It is a composite master cylinder which is very durable and efficient. It is a glass reinforced nylon construction which will resist rust and corrosion.
Offers a large reservoir to provide increased capacity for the break fluid. And right up here at the top where you put your break fluid in, they do use an automotive style diaphragm cap which creates completely enclosed system to help prevent contamination of your brake fluid. Now this one, when you go in reverse and this, the brakes will apply. So what you'll need to do is this one comes with this manual reverse lockout right here. You can see this red part here.
This will let you reverse without actuating your trailer's brakes. So what you need before you go into reverse, you just lift up on this bracket, slide it into the opening right there and then here's a notch there that'll hold it in place. And then what that does is that'll keep this inner portion from going to the inside when you go in reverse which will keep your brakes from being applied. You just have to remember that when you get back to towing, just pull this bracket out and let it fall. So it's out of the way. Now that does come with the breakaway cable and the hook that is included and it is required by law to use this. And what this does is this breakaway cable and hook will prevent a trailer runaway situation. So what you do is when you hook your trailer up to your tow vehicle, you also take this hook as a keeper on it and hook this to the tow vehicle also. So with this hook to it, if by chance your trailer comes disconnected from your tow vehicle, it'll pull on this cable which will activate the lever which will then supply the hydraulic pressure to the master zone back here to engage your brakes and stop the trailer in a runaway situation. And as I mentioned, this comes with it. It is included, and again, it is required by law to use it. This is a weld on installation. This does mount to a straight 3" wide trailer tongue. This part is made in the USA. Application, this is for trailers with hydraulic drum brakes. Gross towing weight capacity of 8,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight capacity of 800 pounds. And this part also goes by the model number of DA91. But that should do it for the review on this Demco 8" adjustable channel down hydraulic drum break actuator with the 8,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.
