Specs:
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.
This actuator has a manual reverse lockout that you can activate so that you can back up without triggering your trailer's disc brakes. To activate the lockout, just rotate the tab on the side of the actuator to the left. Once the lockout has been activated, you can back up your trailer without triggering the trailer brakes. Always remember to restore the tab to its original position before towing normally.
Sturdy, Corrosion-Resistant Construction
Made of sturdy steel, this hydraulic trailer brake actuator features a durable silver powder coat finish that is designed to limit rust and corrosion. This finish has a 500-hour salt spray rating, making the coupler perfect for marine use. In addition, the composite master cylinder is made of corrosion-resistant glass-reinforced nylon to further ensure durability.

Today we're going to take a look at the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator with the manual lockout eight inch adjustable channel and an 8,000 pound weight capacity. Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with the surge brake system like this, this hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. So when this happens, this actuator will contract, which will apply force to the master cylinder back here and this in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. This actuator does use an acetal copolymer lining, which will ensure a nice smooth operation as the actuator telescopes in and out.If you notice right here, this is a manual reverse lockout and this will let you reverse without actuating your trailer brakes. So when you go in reverse, you don't want the brakes to be applied. So what you'll do is take this manual lockout, hook it right in there, and that'll keep it from going back to apply the brakes.
Now you do always want to remember to restore the tab, take it out of there to its original position before towing. This does have the adjustable channel here has three different mounting positions. One, two, three, for your coupler. Now the coupler is not included; that you would have to supply. We sell those separately.Just to give you a few dimensions on this. The overall height of this adjustable coupler is eight inches.
The width, which is the inside width is right at three inches and the adjustment holes, center to center, are two inches apart. Now the master cylinder on this, which is right here in the back, this is a composite master cylinder. It's very durable and efficient. It's a glass reinforced nylon construction, helps resist rust and corrosion and has a very large reservoir to provide increased capacity for the brake fluid. Now you doing install the brake fluid right up at the top here. If you notice, you can unscrew this automotive style diaphragm cap and this will give you a completely enclosed system, helps prevent contamination of your brake fluid and just tighten it down, snug it up.Also, if you notice right up at the top here, it includes this breakaway cable and this breakaway cable is required.
What this does is this hook here will hook to your tow vehicle and what this does is it prevents a trailer or if it comes disconnected from your tow vehicle, prevents a runaway situation. What will happen is with this cable connected, if that unhooks, it will pull this, which will actuate the brakes to stop the trailer from a runaway situation. Now this is a heavy duty steel construction. You can see it has a nice silver powder coat finish, gives you excellent corrosion resistant. It does meet the 500 hour salt spray rating, so it is great for marine application. You can see the holes down here. It is a bolt on installation.
It does require a half inch by four and a half inch long, grade five bolts for mounting and again, they're not included. This part is made in the USA. Few specs again. This is for trailers with hydraulic drum brakes, gross towing weight capacity 8,000 pounds, maximum tongue weight, 800 pounds. A channel width, right back here if you measure inside to inside, it is just a little bit over three inches, about three and one 16th of an inch. The reason they do that, it's designed to slide over your three inch wide channel tongue on your trailer. The model number on this is goes by model number DA91.But that should do it for the review on the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator with the manual lockout, eight inch adjustable channel and an 8,000 pound capacity.
