Can Holes be Drilled into Roller Shaft

Question:

Ive bought various trailer parts from you in the past, but am looking to use these shafts to mounts some keel rollers as cable guides for a non-trailer work project. Ill need to drill two 1/8 inch holes in each one to install cotter pins the pal nuts wont be suitably secure for this application. I need to know if the axles are hardened in a way that will make it impractical for an amateur to drill through... I have a basic drill press and big box store bits, but not anything fancier. Thanks.

While I obviously cannot give you any type of guarantee that your drill press will allow you to drill 1/8 inch holes in the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts # CE10727A, it is certainly practical to believe that you should be able to do it. We had a customer report to us that they used a band saw to trim a bit of length off the shaft, and while it isn't an apples to apples comparison, it does speak to the fact that it is reasonable to assume a decent drill press will allow you to drill through it.
