Average Customer Rating:  4.3 out of 5 stars   (10 Customer Reviews)

Use this wiring kit to power your trailer brake controller. Designed for vehicles that do not have power going to the built-in brake controller port.

by:

The kit was missing the inline butt connector for splicing into the harness at the brake controller. The installation video says the butt connector is included in the kit. Fortunately I have butt connectors in my personal parts stash so I could finish the install.

Just starting to install and not enough wire is included in this kit, therefore, I a, off to the store to purchase wire. I ordered this thinkinking it would have been less expensive to buying each thing needed individually, well so far, no!

by:

Product was as stated. Spent the afternoon installing it. All I have left to do is mount the trailer brake control and then will be ready to go.

  • No Power to P2 Brake Controller in 2019 Ford F-150
Hey Scott; with some models of the 2019 Ford F-150 power was not run to the brake controller port under the dash for some reason. So you'll want to use a circuit tester and test the black wire on the brake controller connector to see if you're getting power. My guess is you won't so you'll have to Power Wire Kit for Electric Trailer Brake Controllers # BRK-ELECKIT to get power to the port. I have added a link below to a video of this part for an F-150 which may help.

  • Solution for Powering Brake Controller Install of 2019 Ford F150 with Factory Tow Package
This is a common issue for installing a brake controller in the 2019 Ford F-150 and the easy solution is to install the part # BRK-ELECKIT which bypasses the very mysterious brake controller power wire issue your truck has and allows your brake controller to draw power directly from the battery. Basically you cut out the black wire from the harness you have now and connect it the wire of this kit and then wire it directly to the battery with the included ring terminals. This bypasses the...

  • Can a Trailer Brake Controller be Turned Off
Modern brake controllers such as the P2 # 90885 will go into a power saving mode after about 15 minutes of inactivity. In this mode the controller will only draw a few milliamps of power. At that rate it would take months of the vehicle just sitting for a brake controller to drain the vehicle battery. If it does not go into power saving mode that means that something is drawing power on the brake circuit. The most likely culprit is corrosion in or on the vehicle side trailer connector....

  • What Parts Will I Need to Install a Tekonsha Brake Controller on 2021 Ford F-150
To install the Tekonsha brake controller on your 2021 Ford F-150, you will need a wiring adapter like the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 22292. You can use this adapter if your F-150 has the factory 4-Flat or 7-Way. If you can tell me the model number of your brake controller and if you have factory tow package or not, I can tell you the exact adapter you will need.

  • Does Computer of 2019 Ford F-150 Need Flashed to Install Aftermarket Brake Controller?
If you install the Prodigy P3 # 90195 you will not need to have the computer flashed. In most models it will simply plug in using the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 22292, however some do not have power run to the brake controller port under the dash. If this is the case, we have wiring kit # BRK-ELECKIT which you can use to run power to the brake controller port. I've attached a video to help with all of this.

  • Location of Brake Controller Connector for an Aftermarket Controller on a 2018 Ford F-150
The location that you would connect an adapter like part # 22292 to your 2018 Ford F-150 for installing a brake controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 is behind and to the left of the center console area. If you remove the front panel that is directly under your steering wheel you can access the plug this way (see attached photo). Some models of the 2018 F-150 don't have power running to this brake controller port. If this is the case for you then you would need the wiring kit # BRK-ELECKIT...

  • Can A Tekonsha Brake Controller Be Installed On a 24 Volt Electrical System
Yes, it is possible to install a Tekonsha brake controller like the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160 which is what I recommend on a 24 volt system. In order to do so you will need to obtain a 24 volt relay from your local automotive parts store and then some various primary wire, circuit breakers, and wire connectors like what is included with the Power Wire Kit for Electric Trailer Brake Controllers part # BRK-ELECKIT. • Brake Controller Recommendation for 2018 Ford F-150
To install our very popular P3 brake controller part # 90195 in your 2018 Ford F-150 will only require the correct install harness. For that you'd want the # 22292 which is a confirmed fit and simply plugs in under the dash. Some versions of your truck though don't have power ran to the brake controller port and would require you to also install the # BRK-ELECKIT. I attached an install video for this for you to check out as well.

  • Will the Curt Echo Brake Controller Work On a 2019 Ford F-150
The Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 will work with a 2019 Ford F-150. However, the 2015+ Ford F-Series Pick-Ups have what is called a SmartTow feature that prevents power from supplying the trailer connector most of the time. Therefore, in order to use the Curt Echo on a 2016 Ford F-150 you will need to run a dedicated power wire from the battery to the trailer connector and all you will need for this is the Power Wire Kit for Electric Trailer Brake Controllers part...

  • Parts Needed to Run Power Circuit for Installing Curt C51180 Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller
Using 12 ga wire is indeed acceptable for installing the Curt # C51180 Echo wireless brake controller, but to protect the power feed circuit you'll want to use a 30A self resetting circuit breaker instead of a fuse. We sell the wire, hardware and breaker in a kit, as part # BRK-ELECKIT. If you already have the wire and hardware, we sell the breaker separately as part # 38630.

For your 2018 Ford F-150 I don't recommend the Curt Venturer but it will install in the same way as any other brake controller and for that installation you have a couple different options. If when you installed the 7-way you grabbed the factory wiring for your 12V and brake controller from near your driver's side wheel well, then I recommend using the wiring harness which will connect to the factory port under your dash. For whatever reason, some F-150 models will have the plug in the dash for the brake controller, but the 12 volt power feed to that connector hasn't been connected. You may need to add a 30A fuse in the distribution box under the hood, in location # 24. If location # 24 is NOT pinned, you'll need to run your own wire to the controller. This has everything you are looking for, minus the 7-way, so you can install the Autowbrake Electric Brake Controller # 3430001. • Curt C51180 Echo Wireless Brake Controller Showing 'Vehicle Battery Low' Error
I believe the reason your controller is behaving the way it is is the lack of a direct battery connection. Pressing the brake pedal feeds some power to the unit that disappears once you let off the brake pedal. In order for the Curt # C51180 to work correctly, it does indeed need a direct battery connection for the pin in the 1:00 position on the 7-way trailer connector. I will be happy to get your 2018 Ford F-150 set up with a 7-Way trailer connector and a brake controller. The method for doing so that requires the fewest parts is to hardwire in the brake controller/7-Way. Since your truck already has a factory 4-Way connector you will just need # ETBC7 to add a 7-Way, retain the 4-Way, and have the parts needed to install a brake controller as well as run a 12 volt hot lead. This is also why your lights still work. The black wire coming off the the 7-way adapter should be the 12V power wire, which runs to the pin in the 1 o'clock position you described.
