Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller For Towing A Horse Trailer With a 2021 Ford F-150
Question:
I am setting up my 2021 F150 for trailering horses. Ive come to the decision that a proportional break controller is going to be the best option. I am not a fan of the bulky look of them on the dash. For that reason this controller is very attractive. When reading the information on this controller is states this is not good if you Rely on the manual override to feather the brakes if you need to reduce sway or if someone cuts you off. What does this mean and how would it affect me when trailering horses. Since I have never hauled I have no point of reference.

The reason that the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR is not good for the manual override is that when you drive with the controller in proportional braking mode and push the manual override it only allows the trailer brakes to be applied in a light braking scenario. This is often not enough braking force on the trailer brakes if you are relying on them solely. As you are new to trailering and brake controllers I do not see this being an issue for you as it comes more from those that are used to timed brake controllers that require more adjustment in panic braking situations.
As you are new to this, know that the proportional brake controllers are designed to match the trailer braking force with the force that your 2021 Ford F-150 is using to stop the trailer.
To install the Redarc Tow-Pro # RED44FR you will need a Redarc Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness # 331-TPH-007 to connect to the factory connector that is located behind your dash. Before installing the parts you will need to verify that you are getting power to the power wire in your connector as there are trucks that do not have power to this connector from the factory. If you do not have power you will need the Power Wire Kit for Electric Trailer Brake Controllers # BRK-ELECKIT to power your brake controller.
