Today we're going to be taking a look at the bolt on battery box for breakaway kits. The battery case is going to guard your breakaway battery and charger from the elements. This is designed for use with the Tekonsha trailer breakaway kits, but it will also fit many other batteries. To open it up you just pry this side open, it's got the plastic tether strap on this side so it keeps the lid attached. Taking a look on the inside, you can see down at the bottom that it does have some supports, that's designed to keep the battery off the base of the box, or off the floor of the box. It's also going to have holes in the base of the box to prevent moisture buildup, and then here on the backside, when the case is closed, you'll see that it has this small little slot right there so that's going to give you room to run the wires out of the box. It does feature a lockable design, it's got a tab right here with a small hole in it. That hole's going to measure a quarter of an inch so it will accept a padlock that has a quarter inch diameter shackle.
Padlock is going to be sold separately, but again it does have that lockable design to help deter theft. It's made from a heavy duty polymer construction to resist corrosion and for strength and durability. Here on the backside it's got the mounting tabs, that's these two tabs right here, each tab's going to have two holes so it's going to have a total of four holes, that way you can mount the case almost anywhere. Hardware is not included. The product is made in the USA. When it comes to the internal dimensions, that's going to measure five and fifteen sixteenths of an inch long by three and one eighth of an inch wide by five and a half inches tall.
The overall height of the box is going to measure six and one eighth of an inch. The overall width . I am including the mounting tabs in this measurement, so outer edge to outer edge it's going to give us an overall width measurement of about seven and three quarters of an inch. From front to back it's going to give us a depth measurement of right around four inches. Taking a look at the mounting holes, here on top these holes are going to be separated apart from one another on center by about seven and one eighth of an inch. Here at the bottom that measurement decreases just a little bit by about an eighth of an inch, so center on center, those are separated by about seven inches.
Going up and down, we're going to have a hole separation on center by right on three inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the bolt on battery box for breakaway kits.

I repurposed this as an APU for my enclosed trailer. It powers my LED lights when I'm not connected to my tow vehicle. So I have lights inside all the time.
Used for stowing assembly and wiring for front parking sensors for my F150.
Provides for organization and protection from the elements.

Worked great replacing the one that was full of holes after installing the junction box.
This is exactly what I needed for a 12 volt battery to go in my kayak for a fishfinder. I will have to grind off a little plastic on the inside to make it fit but next to nothing on the internet was out there but this nice little box that would fit the battery inside.
This battery box ended up being an exact replacement for the one that I had that got damaged in an accident. I looked at several in a local store, and none of them were as rugged as this one. Attaches securely to my car trailer.

I was replacing a broken battery box for my trailer brakes, and this box is identical to the OEM box that came with the trailer. The transaction with etrailer could not have been easier or faster. Product shipped immediately and was exactly as I expected. Excellent product, great price, excellent vendor.
The box itself is exactly what I had been looking for, and the purchasing process went smoothly. However, given the box is intended to be fastened to the frame of a trailer, it would have been appreciated if the hardware—4 self-tapping screws—was included. The package of screws I needed to purchase—only to use 4—cost more than the box. Tough to find just 4 screws these days since the mom and pop stores have been pretty much squeezed out. Not looking for a freebie...just add it to the cost.
I bought this to house a 12v 10 amh battery for my fish finder. It was well constructed but was a little small for this battery. I was able to stretch it out by heating it and inserting a wood block slightly bigger than the battery. It fit well after that.
Well made and functional box. We are using it for a solar powered business sign. A great find!

The box has worked just fine. Good product.
Nice boxes. They do have plastic fins on the inside at all four corners that will not allow a 12 volt 7 amp hour battery to sit all the way down to the bottom of the case. A few minutes with a dremel tool to cut some of them off to allow my battery to fit low enough to close the lid. Well worth the price. The lid holds open by itself a nice design touch. Can be bolted closed or locked with a padlock.
Has four mounting holes. Case is motched for the wires to exit the side. Has drain holes/vent in the bottom
used the box for a power wench on a boat trailer---had to modify inside to fit a larger battery but works for the job--use a solar array to charge the battery--mounted on top of the case.. no connection to vehicle alternator.

Yes the boxes showed up and they are what we wanted. We use them with magnets
to put in remote spots for our wireless cameras

Not sure I would trust the mounting ears on side to carry the weight. I will support from the bottom with a 90 degree bent piece of sheet in addition to the side ears.

This box is too small for my battery, despite the dimensions indicating otherwise. Because of the holes in the bottom for drainage, which were not in the description, it does not work as a battery box, since it will not contain leakage. I would return it for a refund, but the cost of shipping makes it not worthwhile. So I will keep it to store recipe cards.
Lost the lid for my battery box. This was a perfect fit and price was right.
