Video Transcript for Rola Bike Carriers Replacement Cradle Straps Review

Zach: Hey everybody, Zach here at etrailer.com, and today we're going to be talking about a replacement part for the Rola TX series bike rack, and that's the straps. So right here, I have a brand new bike rack in place. There's nothing wrong with this one, but the TX style bike rack has been around for a while, so whether you have the two, the three or the four bike, sometimes those parts get worn out, you need to replace them. And the most common one that we see are these straps. So they're just a thick, rubber strap and after a while, if they've been exposed to the elements, the sun, or just after a lot of use, they get a little brittle, sometimes it gets stretched out or they break. So what we can do is we can replace that. So today I have a set of replacement straps, if we needed to replace it, and I'm going to show you how to swap these out.So the first thing we need to do is remove one of our cradles.

So we're just going to pretend that this top tube strap is broken and I'm going to take a Phillips screwdriver, and I'm going to loosen this cradle up and take it off. So we'll just get this loosened up and we can slide this off. Try to get this loosened up enough to where I can just slide it off, or I don't have to completely remove it, but it's looking like I need to take it all the way off and pry that out. So, not a big deal, but we'll get this taken out of the way. Try not to lose all the parts there.

Get that pried out a little bit so we can get that. You know what I got to replace this as well down here. So. We'll get this taken out of the way. I'm going to put it in this position right here. Unscrew this right here.

This is to keep our cradles from sliding off. And this bike rack is going to be a really good one.I sure you familiar with it if you've used it enough to where you've broken or they've worn out, but I like that Rola has so many different replacement parts for this bike rack. So, you know, if we've damaged something else, we can get those swapped out as well. So they have cradles and the anti-sway cradle, a lot of different things to get this bike rack so we can keep this working for us for a long time. So we'll slide this cradle off and you can see, this will just slide off and then I'll show you the new one.

These are going to be identical. Now this one has been in storage, so it's not been used. It's been in that position for a while, but you can see they're going to be identical to one another. So it's the same exact strap. And just slide that back on and we can repeat that same process to get this back in place.Well, when you put your cradle back on, you want this hook to be on the outside. I originally started putting that on backwards and we'll get that put in place, get this screw back on there so we don't have those falling off. And then if you're replacing any of your other parts, it's going to be kind of the same process. You'll want to remove this screw here to get those cradles off. If you're replacing cradles or the anti-sway. So really you just need a Phillips screwdriver, which is really nice, cause that nut on the backside can sit down in that little groove and hold itself in place while you tighten this up.You can see we've got a strap on there again. So the other one wasn't damaged, but that just gives you a better idea as to how you can swap those out. So you have one of these get damaged it's a pretty quick fix. I did it under five minutes. If you had any others, it's a really affordable way to keep your bike rack lasting for a few more years. And if you have any other issues, we definitely have those parts available, but that's going to do it for our look at the Rola replacement straps for the TX series bike rack..

worked out fine....glad I could get them frometrailer!

by:

It was easy to find what I was looking for on the etrailer website. They also had the best price.

Regarding the Rola straps for my bike rack, I recommend not pulling them tight, just snug. If you pull these tight they will break and you'll end up buying replacements as I did.

by:

Great product
Wish they still made the
anti-sway straps

I have a rolls to-102 bike carrier. They straps needed to be replaced because they were starting to tear. The rolls dealers never responded to my email.thankfully I found them on your website at a reasonable price. They were delivered in a timely manner. There is also a how to video on the site to help show how to change the straps.I highly recommend etrailer.com.

I recently ordered replacement parts for my bike rack. I have not yet put the parts on, but would like to compliment etrailer for their prompt service and follow-up. I received a courteous email telling me the parts had been shipped and thanking me for my order. Impressive customer service!

The parts have held up well and I’ve been very pleased with the bike rack which held two bikes very nicely. The best news is....a friend from church was cleaning out her basement and had a three-bike Hollywood rack and gave it to me! How lucky is that!!!??? Now I can haul my bike and two of my friends’ bikes! If I need parts or information, I know eTrailer is the place to go and I often recommend you to my biking friends! Thanks!

Replacement for Swagman Straps:

I
bought a set of these to replace the terrible cheap straps on my Swagman trailhead 4 bike rack that broke on the first trip out.
I searched high and low to find replacement Swagman straps with ZERO luck. Finally I stumbled across these on etrailer and decided to give them a try. When I received them I was immediately impressed with the quality of these straps. They are much heavier duty than the originals. After using these for one year they are still in perfect condition, and I have confidence they wont rip when I try to use them for their intended purpose! I have been Babying the remainder of the original straps to try to keep from them from breaking but, to no avail. I am ordering three more sets to replace the rest of the broken swagman straps and keep a spare set in the RV.

Thanks E-Trailer for coming to the rescue!

Sunlight is their enemy. I think ArmorAll helps to slow down the aging. Still, they last about average time for a rubber strap. etrailer always delivers.

The ArmorAll does slow down the aging. The straps are still in good shape.

Still doing the job without any cracking

by:

These straps are better than the ones that came on my 2005 version Rola bike carrier.

Jay A.

After a year of use I still think these straps are better than the original straps from 2005. After owning and using this rack for 14 years I believe I have gotten more than my moneys worth of use from rack. I intend to use it for many more years.

by:

Shipped promptly and Williams S. provided excellent customer service - helped me change my order easily over the phone when I decided to order a second set of these. Would definitely use etrailer.com again!

by:

I'm glad etrailer stocks these.

I
put them on an older Rola rack. They are a bit different, and MUCH better than the straps that came with the rack. The old ones were flat, rubbery, and weak. I broke one the first time I used the rack, and another nearly so even being careful not to try to fasten them tightly.

These replacment straps are a new design. The sides have raised re-inforcement areas, and the material is a slightly stretchy plastic...not really rubbery like the old ones. Before putting them on I gave them a hard pull, and they showed no sign of breaking...the originals would have snapped easilly.

I only kept the Rola rack because it works OK with our tandem. Now with these new straps, I can stop threatening to put in on craigslist or the recycler! I can't wait to haul the bikes without having to tie them down with rope as I had resorted to doing.

The only reason they don't get the fifth star is that they say they need to be replaced anually. Boo hiss! I'll watch them and see if that is true. I suspect it was written by a lawyer rather than an engineer.

by:

They no work great. Thanks

by:

These worked well to replace the broken straps on my old Thule rack, and are a much cheaper alternative to the Thule straps. The old cradles had integrated straps that broke. I simply cut off the remainder of the the strap and slid one of these behind the cradle. It's not perfect, but it works and saved a lot of money. They're not very stretchy, but feel very durable.

by:

Thanks much for the new straps, the old ones came off easy, and I expect the new ones will serve me well. Fast service and company went out of way to make sure I got the correct product. Thanks

by:

This was the only site I found where I could purchase replacements for both the anti-sway cradles and straps for my Rola bike rack for four. Installation was easy with the right tools and we are back to safely traveling with our bikes again. Highly recommended.

Needed to replace rubber tie down straps on my hitch mounted bicycle carrier.
The OEM had oval holes, and these have square holes. As the carrier has rectangular posts for the straps to attatch to, these fit better.

by:

Rola emplyee went back and forth with me for a month saying parts did not exist. Called another emplyee and he had part number and referred me to etrailer. Their order desk was outstanding, part in stock, multiple shipping methods, fair price for item and shipping got a day earlier than advised. Saved me several $100 dollars on new rack. etrailer is awesome thank you so much. Phil Reis

by:

These guys are great. Even when the bike carrier straps were on back order from the manufacturer, they kept me updated. These are exactly as ordered!
