Speaker 1: Today we're gonna take a look at the Sidewinder custom wedge for the Curt E-series 16K fifth wheels. Now fifth wheel wedge is a simple but reliable way to allow a fifth-wheel hitch to be used with a fifth-wheel Sidewinder pin box. This custom wedge will bolt in place with the universal wedge on the pin box and allows a new pivot point for the kingpin and a wider turn radius for the fifth wheel trailer. To keep the pin box from swiveling at the fifth-wheel hitch head, this custom wedge bolts onto the pin box will insert onto the hitch head, locks the pin box into place, and then since the pivot point is then moved towards the rear of your tow vehicle, you can easily make 90 degree turns, even with a short bed truck.This fifth-wheel wedge is designed to fit the Curt E-series 16K fifth wheel, and accommodates the sidewinder or fifth airborne Sidewinder pin boxes. It has a nice durable carbine black powder coat finish to help resist corrosion. This part includes everything here on the table, the wedge and the mounting bolts to install it.

We had such a problem with this wedge. If we we not perfectly level and lined up perfectly straight we couldn't hitch up. unhitching was also a nightmare. After the third time we had to take the hitch head off in order to get unhitched we got a new hitch and locked up the turning point so we don't have to use a wedge. Maybe it was the wrong wedge or it wasn't machined right, but it didn't work for us. The E-16 hitch isn't all that great either.
After I got it installed, I still had an inch of space between the end of the wedge and the pin but there is still plenty of "beef" to keep the hitch from wandering. It is much better than the "universal" Reese wedge.

I have the turning point buy Lippert on my 5th wheel Gran Design, and what I dont like is the hitch pin itself, it is loose no matter what I do and the wedge was damaging my receiver so I took it off and dont use it at all. I can still turn fairly sharp anyway.
The wedge works great but you must keep the bolts tight. It has so much pressure on it that it will work it way back and out of position over time. The bolts are easy to reach and are the same size as the bolts on the sidewinder turret so it's not a problem to just tighten them when you tighten the bolts on the turret.
Works as described. A better fit over the Reese standard wedge.
