Fifth-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter

This unique coupler lets you tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your gooseneck hitch. It is air ride equipped to ensure that less stress is put on your trailer's frame than is typical with traditional king pin adapters. Simply replace your trailer's existing pin box with the Goose Box and you'll be ready to go.

Eliminate Chucking and Jarring

The Goose Box is designed to absorb road shock for a smooth, stable ride. The internal air bag can be adjusted to give you just the right amount of support, so you will lose the bounce but avoid the stiff, rigid ride that occurs when towing with an overinflated air bag. Also included in the Goose Box are dual shock absorbers, which ensure that compression of the air bag occurs in a controlled fashion. This extends the life of the air bag.

Cutaway Diagram of Reese Products Goose Box
  1. The air bag can be adjusted to provide a smooth ride for both your truck and trailer. Because it is fully enclosed, it's protected from UV exposure and shielded from road hazards.
  2. Dual shock absorbers help to reduce bounce and relieve stress on your trailer frame.
  3. The integrated pivot tube allows the Goose Box to move fore and aft, minimizing chucking.
  4. The gooseneck coupler attaches to the 2-5/16 inch ball on your gooseneck trailer hitch.

Not As Advertised and Horrible Customer Service at Reese!
The pinbox came without installation hardware or directions. The hardware took a month to replace and again came without directions.
The pinbox DOES NOT have the air valve as pictured. When I called Reese I was told it was due to a parts shortage and the person I spoke to told (Paul) me the new set-up was a dumb design.
I TOTALLY AGEE!!
To inflate one person has to literally crawl under the pinbox while hitched to inflate while another watches the bar. Not easy for a 60+ year old fat man!
The valve faces OPPOSITE the bar side. Just dumb.
When etrailer followed up they were basically told I have to live with it.
NO - NOT HAPPY!

I did contact Reese and the original valve location has changed. The latest 20k 94920 has the air valve mounted on the top of the of the unit. We are working towards updating the pictures on our site.

My camper is 4 yrs old. I was using a gooseneck offset adapter to hitch fifth wheel to truck B&W gooseneck hitch. I upgraded to the Reese 16k Goosebox with a recommendation from a friend. I am absolutely impressed by how this hitch tows. No more chucking, the airbag and shocks add a much needed level of comfort. My camper is a Starcrart AR-One Maxx 26BHS. I’m towing with a 2005 Ram 3500 4x4 CCSB. I am using the B&W offset hitch ball to create more space between the truck cab and camper bulkhead. Highly recommend this hitch to anyone looking to tow their 5’er with a gooseneck ball hitch.

by:

Goosebox works great! We have a bradford built flatbed with a recessed ball. The truck is used for work when not pulling the fifthwheel so I didn't want to cut out the trap door cover to use an anderson. The goosebox makes the fifthwheel no different then hooking up a regular gooseneck trailer but gives a much smoother ride

by:

Must have if you want to use a goose ball for towing your trailer. Completely eliminates the chunking and hard bouncing on roads- smooths outs bridge crossings and keeps your Lippert warranty!

by:

Installed very easily on my Grand Design 31MB, Towing with a 2019 F350 short box and have about 7" of bed rail clearance once the box is aired up. Using the B&W 4" offset, can get close to 75-80 degree turns

Hardest part was tracking down a 220lb torque wrench to get all the bolts secure.

Product is excellent, no worries about it at all. Have used this one for a year on this camper also had another heavier one for 4 years on another camper that was a lot heavier with no issues. I highly recommend this product to anyone who doesn’t want to use a standard fifth wheel receiver! This frees up your truck bed for other uses as well!

by:

Great quality and easy to use. This hitch makes the camper ride so smooth on the truck. It eliminated the forward/backward chucking that happened every time we hit a bump in the road. Mutch more pleasant to drive. It is also very nice not to have a large hitch to remove from the truck. I use my truck between camping trips and the bed is open and free without lugging a 5th wheel in and out. Other people in the campgrounds constantly ask me about the "strange looking" hitch on my camper.

by:

Installation was easy, and straight forward.
I love not having a 5th wheel in the bed of the truck.
I don't care for the airbag, and wish they would come up with some sort of short travel coilover shock system or something similar. Simpler is better in my opinion.
On my 2014 Ram crew cab SRW 3500 with 6.5ft bed, the turning radius is pretty dang good, and I've experienced no issues over uneven terrain or unevenly elevated intersections, of which I have some right around my house.
The ride is very smooth and comfortable, and only gets lumpy when the airbag is fully inflated. I normally tend to run about 38-40psi in it. That gives me about 6 inches of bed rail clearance, and still allows plenty of rail to goosebox clearance in tight turns.

My truck trailer combo is;
2014 Ram Cummins 3500 SRW with 6.5ft bed, and a 2016 KZ Durango 1500, with a 1600lb dry pin weight, and a 10,200Lb GVWR.

by:

1. It has developed a noisy sqeeking sound that I have not been able to find. I have used the grease fitting, but didn't seem to help.
2. The air level indicator could be a bright color for a better visual.
3. The pull cable was a little short, had to extend it.
4. The ride is a little more bouncier than a 5th wheel hitch.
Overall- not having the bulky 5th wheel hitch in the bed of the truck is nice

by:

Very simple ordering process, great communication all the way to the carrier.
Product arrived well packaged and strapped to a pallet.
Installation was straight forward and only took an hour including removal of the old gooseneck.
Looking forward to using this in the next week.

by:

I think this is one of the best “hitch” setups for a 5th wheel. The only downside to this is it is more difficult to hitch up, especially by yourself in a 4door truck, the only other downside is with a short bed the max turn radius is slightly limited with a modern rounded front cap 5th wheel. The benefits of this over a conventional 5th wheel hitch are: you have 100% of your bed available once you disconnect the trailer. No heavy 5th wheel hitch to take in or out. Also the hitch is cushioned with the airbag, the only other downside is cost. You could get an above the bed rail setup or inexpensive 5th wheel hitch if your truck has the puck system for less. However to buy a b&w hitch it is nearly the same. The other downside would be for people who have difficulty getting into the bed to hookup safety chains (required for gooseneck hitch but not for 5th wheel).

by:

Hard to come up with enough words to praise this GooseBox!
What an incredible difference switching out from my king pin. Much better ride, have lots more room in my truck bed, and the adjustability of the airbag helps greatly in tight back-up situations.

by:

Received my Goosebox yesterday installed today, it went well with online installation video. The instructions in the box were basic and didn't include connecting the Goosebox to the truck with how to pressurize the air, which would have been helpful. The packaging job wasn't very good, box was loosely packaged allowing hitch to move around inside the box. Luckily there was no damage. All and all, it went well, just would have been better with more details on operating the Goosebox hitch itself

by:

This is my 2nd Goose Box, I really like the way they make my truck/trailer ride and according to the salesman, they don't void my new campers warranty. Combine this with the flip over ball in the bed and I don't lose any bed space, unlike a 5th wheel hitch, what's not to like???

by:

Towed 2021 Grand Design Reflection 303 rls for the first time with this goose box. Handled extremely well, especially over expansion joints on interstate. Towing with GMC 2500 Denali and the truck would move up over the bump but you could not feel any movement in the trailer. Product was shipped to my home and i took to RV dealer to install. Really love this setup so far! I would not hesitate to buy this, it really makes the towing experience comfortable.

by:

Love the hitch easy install and rode much better than fifth wheel, I only give 4 stars because the air valve just plain sucks it is underneath and hard to get air in the bags. E-Trailer did amazing job on shipping arrived very quickly!!!

by:

Great quality product and etrailer has great customer service.

by:

Product is great, install was easy.
I
wish it was better noted that the safety chains are not included, but that's my oversight.
Also I didn't receive directions and had to look them up online.

by:

This goose box is a game changer! Only tested it for about 10 miles after installation but I can tell it makes a huge difference. very smooth!!!

Funally. A review that I am excited to write. DISCLAIMER: I had never towed, let alone owned, either a gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer ever before last year when we bought our new 5th wheel RV. I read countless blogs and articles, talked to many people, and watched an insane number of YouTube videos before deciding how to tow our new fifth wheel camper. Settled on the Reese Goosebox because it would reduce the total pin weight by up to 300 pounds by ELIMINATING the bed mounted hitch altogether! I knew that I wanted a pinbox with air ride anyway and the price was comparable to a traditional 5th wheel setup. I only spent $1,200 on the Goosebox instead of $2,400 on a air ride pinbox AND a bed mounted 5th wheel plate. BONUSES: No truck bed filled with a big, heavy, greasy hitch! Bed is empty and usable the moment you disconnect from your RV! AND you NEVER have to lug the hitch in and out of your bed or store it in your garage. ALSO: (At least when I reseaeched and bought mine in 2020) the Reese Goosebox was the only option that did not void the Lippert Frame warranty! Easy to hook up to, even for a relative novice like me. Ride quality is fabulous and can be adjusted for differing load weights on different trips and personal preference. HIGHLY RECOMMEND you consider this option FIRST. Of the many RV owning and towing mistakes I have made over the years, I have absolutely no regrets and whatsoever with the decision to go with the Reese Goosebox!

by:

I love my Goose Box. I tow with a Short Bed Sierra 2500HD, and have no issues with turns. I DO have to dump my airbags or I'll have issues hitting the bed on sharp sharp turns, so it's just habit for me now to dump them when I hit a parking lot, and air them back up when I get back on the road. Something to keep in mind if you run rear air suspension without a remote.

With this setup on my Forrest river Wildcat I can hit about 75/78 degrees before i get concerned with clearance. In practice I've never needed that sharp of a turn to get in a campground. After I unhook I can have ALL of my bed space back in the 15 seconds it takes to climb in the bed and stow the B&W gooseneck ball. The unit tows great, but you need to check the airbag before every trip. Easy to do with the visual bar system this is set up with. Very little chucking over nasty road joints. Overall I don't think I'd want anything else on my 5th wheel RV. The GEN-Y setup does look nice, but this one has Lippert's endorsement, and it's a really great unit.

by:

really cushions the ride and keeps your truck bed open for hauling without removing a 5th wheel plate. Easy to install, just follow the directions

by:

Best hitch system I have used. Installation is a medium on difficulty “ two personnel required “. A little practice is required for lining up over the ball, after that hook up is really easy.
Pulling and ride is really nice. I use this hitch with an B&W offset
Ball. This allows for toolbox and cab clearance. Always good service etrailer

by:

I own a 2016 fifth wheel trailer. I have been dealing with the fifth wheel in the back of my truck, it takes up a lot of room and is not easy to remove. I purchased a 2020 Chevy 3500HD truck with factory prep for either fifth wheel or goose neck. I decided to purchase the Reese goose neck from etrailer and switch to goose neck towing. I was very nervous about it all working out. From the beginning to the end etrailer was absolutely fantastic, from questions to delivery on time. If you are thinking of switching to goose neck towing this is a great option. It works great, I would not hesitate to order this item. I was able to do all the work.

by:

Using this on a 2019 Ram 3500 short bed. I'm also not using an offset ball, and I have had no problems with cab clearance. It has been fantastic not having to lug around a fifth wheel hitch anymore!

  • Understanding Why RV Campers Use 5TH Wheel Hitches Over Gooseneck Hitches
The main reason that RV's use 5th wheel hitches is they provide a smoother ride than gooseneck hitches. Since RV's generally carry fragile components like TV's and dishware as well as having decorative trim and glass lighting fixtures they need the smoother and more stable ride. Gooseneck hitches are primarily used in the agriculture and commercial industry as they do not have to worry about carrying such fragile components outside of its packaging. You do have the ability to use a...

  • Using a 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter on Sidewinder Pin Box
The better solution is to replace the pin box with something such as the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter, # RP94716-61301.
