Will Using a Custom Wedge w/ a Reese 5th Airborne King-Pin & Curt E16 Hitch Help w/ Hitching Issues
Question:
I have a Reece Airborne Sidewinder on my fifth wheel, along with the Curt E16 hitch in my truck. I have having issues hitching and unhitching. Will the custom wedge help improve my issues?

If you do not currently have a wedge, you should definitely be using one. The correct wedge would be the Sidewinder Wedge Kit for Curt E-16K Fifth Wheel Hitch # 30861.
If you are using the wedge that came with your 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin w/ Sidewinder RP61412, adding a custom wedge does usually lead to less slop and a better experience.
However, to be completely honest; I do not think the wedge is your biggest culprit. I think your Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16115 is the biggest source of frustration. The E16 # C16115 is an economy hitch and comes with economy problems. The E16 # C16115 uses a slide-bar jaw mechanism, this allows for more king-pin movement and slop during your ride and hook-up/un-hook process.
To help with those issues, you are better off going with a 5th wheel hitch that has 360-degrees of jaw-to-king-pin contact like the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3200. The Patriot # BWRVK3200 is made in the USA and has 3/4" thick dual jaws that provide that more secure 360 degrees of contact, rather than the slide bar style the E16 has. This is going to make your hook-up process better and provide for a better ride.
The correct wedge to use with the Patriot is the 5th Airborne Custom Wedge for B&W Fifth Wheels # SWW-06.
