The original problem became apparent when, like the original, this gear box crumbled.
Steel gears set in cast aluminum is never a good idea.

  • Troubleshooting Lippert Tread Lite Powered RV Steps Not Extending Or Retracting
To begin you will want to begin testing the different circuits of the Step Control Module # LC334850. The brown wire goes to the door switch to tell the steps when to open and close. The yellow wire runs to an ignition switch so that the steps know to retract when the ignition is on and the door closes regardless if it has been switched to remain open. The white wire travels to the hold switch that holds the steps open even when the door closes. The purple wire is for the porch light. The...

  • Motor Clicking on Tread Lite Electric Double Steps
A clicking motor on your Tread Lite Electric Double Steps # LC353543 or # LC353621 is indicative there is an issue with the motor not sensing the proper amperage at the end of the extension cycle, which is what tells it to shut off when it is finished extending. So the best option is going to be to replace the motor with the Replacement Motor for Lippert Tread Lite Powered RV Steps # LC183058. I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well if you'd like to take...

  • Troubleshooting Possible Bad Motor On A Lippert/Kwikee Step
It could be an issue with the motor. If you can hear it running but nothing is moving, the best thing to do is to start by bench testing the motor. You can hook up to 12v and ground and the motor should run and turn. If you can hear it run but nothing is moving you have a bad motor. Since you are able to move it by hand it sounds like mechanically everything is fine. You should be able to tell by looking at the gears if they are in need of replacement. If the motor works normally and the...

  • RV Steps Troubleshooting Where Module and Wiring Is Good
Sounds like the motor is bad then if the module and wiring is good. If the steps you have are the Lippert Tread Lites like part # LC353543 that you referenced the correct replacement motor would then be the # LC183058. If you have something else let me know and I'll see what you'd need.

  • Troubleshooting Tread Lite Steps Won't Extend or Retract
Typically when you hear the clicking sound it is the motor # LC183058 or possibly the control module # LC334850. Since you have replaced these and the sensor # LC301694 the only other possibility is the wiring. Check your ground and make sure it is secure and undamaged. If it isn't the ground it is the power which you can check with a circuit tester like # PTW2993. It is possible there is a loose connection or the wire is damaged and needs to be repaired/replaced.

  • Troubleshooting Control Module and Motor for a Lippert Tread Lite RV Step
The best way to test this out is by applying 12V power to the motor directly so you can see if it operates correctly outside of the control module (see attached). If everything works properly when you've bypassed the control module then you'll need to replace that with part # LC334850, otherwise the issue would be the motor which you can replace with part # LC183058.

  • Replacement Motor for Lippert Tread Lite RV Steps
The replacement motor you need is the # LC183058 for the Lippert Tread Lite steps # LC353543 that you referenced. It could be the sensors on the door of your RV that's either failed or fallen off. You might check there to verify that the magnets are there and working properly. These sensors basically are what tells the steps your door is open or closed and needs to retract or extend. Since the step is stuck in the out position and the magnets being near each other is what tells the steps...
