Sway Control for a Trailer and 2006 Ford F-250 that Already has Weight Distribution

Question:

I have a 2013 Wind river rv 30 ft 8000 lb bumper pull. I have a equilizer hitch. I pull it with a 2006 f250 6.0l standard bed p/u. I need a sway bar that works for a 8000 lb trailer. Is there a single sway bar that will work

Since the trailer weighs 8,000 pounds you will need to use 2 friction anti-sway bars since they are only functional up to 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight. You can use 2 of # 83660. It is going to be a little tricky though since you already have a weight distribution system.

You would have to have some tabs welded to the head, # 3442, for one. You would have to ask the manufacturer of the system if these tabs can be welded on. Welding should be performed by a qualified professional welder only.

The other option is to replace the weight distribution system that you have with one that comes with sway control. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

If the total tongue weight is less than 1,000 pounds you could use # PS49583 and then add just 1 of # 83660.
