Video Transcript for Derale Lighted On/Off Fan Switch Installation

Today, on our old trailer, we'll be installing the Derale on/off switch, part number D16740. We'll begin here by removing the old, broken switch. To do this, we'll need to remove the two screws that hold the plate. Then, we'll remove the two wires from the back side. With the wires removed from the back side of the switch, we'll go ahead and squeeze the tabs on the top and bottom. This will allow the switch to come out of the plate.

You'll notice that the old switch only has two prongs on the back, and the new one has three. Now, on the new one, we will not be using the gold prong, we will be using the two silver, or chrome colored, prongs. Because, we'll only be using two of the three prongs, the light up feature will not work, but the switch will still turn the interior lights on and off in this trailer. Now, to install our new plug, we'll go ahead and take the plate and the plug, sliding the plug from the front side and pushing it into position, making sure that the locking tabs snap in. All that's left then, is to reconnect the two wires on the back side. It doesn't matter which wire goes on either of these two chrome prongs here. The switch will work either way.

We'll slide each of our wires over the prongs. It's a good idea to test the switch, before we mount it back to the wall. That is the on position. That is the off position. Now that we've tested our switch, all that's left to do is to put the two screws back in that hold it to the wall. That's all there is to it, to installing the Derale lighted on/off switch, part number D16740.

Quickly and easily power your vehicle's electric fan with this lighted toggle switch.

Still toggles, the light is a bit brighter than what I anticipated which is rough at night. Installed on dash of truck to engage turbo brake, when I get around to it I will be changing it out for something less bright. The switch works perfect.

I needed a low pair of lites for my lawnmower. These worked perfectly for my needs. Delivery was very quick. I have bought from Etrailer in the past with same results on trailer hitch accessories. Customer Service is great.

  • Could Switch be Used to Power Two of the 18-1/4" x 12" Holding Tank Heater Pad 277-000164
As long as the switch can handle the amperage load of two of the heating pads part # 277-000164 yes it would be fine. This heating pad draws 4.8 amps. So the switch would need to be able to accommodate 9.6 amps. The part # D16740 would easily handle the amperage.

  • Can Derale Dual High-Output Electric Radiator Fan Part # D16927 Be Used with Stock Belt Fan
To use the Derale Dual High-Output Electric Radiator Fan, part # D16927, in your 1956 Chevrolet with 350 small block you will need to be able to fit the 3-3/4-inch-deep fan housing between the radiator and the engine. (This is a puller fan which draws air in through the front of the radiator; it mounts behind the radiator.) The overall dimensions of the fan housing are 26-inches wide x 18 inches tall x 3-3/4-inches deep. This dual-fan has an output capacity of 4000 cubic-feet-per-minute...

  • Wiring for the Third Brake Light and Dome Light for an ARE Camper Shell on a 2012 Nissan Frontier
When installing a camper shell on a truck, typically, there is not a specific wiring harness for the third brake light and dome light. I am not aware of a wiring harness for a Nissan Frontier that will provide those functions for a camper shell. The installation of a camper shell usually consists of using the appropriate lengths of wire for the third brake light and dome light and splicing them into a corresponding circuit on the truck. It would be best to choose the same size wire, so...

  • Cooling Options For Chevy Express 3500 When Towing a 30 Foot Travel Trailer
Since you have already added an aftermarket transmission cooler to your Chevy Express 3500, you can make sure you have it mounted in the most efficient location for cooling. The ideal place to mount an aftermarket transmission cooler is behind the front grille but in front of the radiator of your vehicle. Adding an electric fan like the item you selected, Derale Radiator Fans, part # D16834, will help reduce engine temperatures and would be a good option. You will need to measure to make...

You could run a wire from your trailer's battery to the running light circuit and then use a switch like part # D16740 to activate them when needed. This would also allow the lights to function when not connected to the tow vehicle as well.

  • Will Derale 16-Inch Dyno-Cool Electric Radiator Fan, Part # D18916, Fit 2003 Chevrolet Silverado
Aftermarket products such as the Derale Dyno-Cool Radiator Fan, part # D18916, and their oil and transmission coolers also, are not vehicle-specific. Any given product can be installed in any vehicle where there is ample space for mounting it. To determine if this fan will fit your 2003 Silverado you can measure the space in front of (or behind your radiator since this fan can pull or push air) to see if there is enough space to mount it. The Derale Dyno-Cool is 3-5/8-inches thick at its...

  • Back Up Docking Lights for a 2007 Chevy Silverado Z71 for Hitching Up to a Trailer at Night
The Bully Bumper Mount Backup Light, # PL-807, uses a 55 watt H3 halogen bulb so the power draw is just about the same as a single headlight. But the light comes with its own wiring that you could run to a switch, # D16740, and connect the lights directly to the battery. Or, even better, get a light kit, # DL-16CC (35 watts), that comes with everything you will need. Or if you want to go the stealth route, you can use a back up camera with night vision, # 04928. It costs more but let's...

  • Where to Get Power for a 12V DC Water Pump in a Stock Trailer
Yes, I would make sure that I used an inline fuse, most likely 10 amps, to protect the vehicles wiring just in case something happens with the pump. If the pump comes with an inline fuse, most do I believe, then I would just make sure it is installed inline on the power wire. If you are worried about overloading the 12 volt circuit when the dome light and flood light are being used and the pump kicks on, you could use the center auxillary pole in the 7-Way connector to power the pump. You...

  • Can Reverse Light of RV Be Used as Utility Light
Sounds like you want utility lights at the rear of your RV instead of a reverse light since you mentioned you didn't want the lights to come on when in reverse. So what you could do is run the power for the lights from the RV battery and then use a switch like the Derale part # D16740.

You are going to want to find the Center High Mount Stop Light wire for the brake light on the truck cap on your 2011 Chevy Silverado. This wire is bundled with the brake controller wiring located under the dash, and held together with tape and a tag that lists the wiring functions. The wire you are looking for is orange and will have a tag on it labeled CHMSL. • Is Derale Dual Electric Radiator Fan A Variable Speed
The Derale Dual High-Output, Electric Radiator Fan, part # D16825, is a single speed system and both fans operate at the same time. There are options available for control of the fans you may be interested in. The first is to use a switch like the Derale Lighted On/Off Switch, part # D16740. This switch is a simple toggle switch that allows you to easily turn your fans on or off. If you wish to install an automatic system, I recommend part # D16789. This will turn the fan on or off...

  • Do I Need to Wire in the Circuit Breaker When Hard Wiring Rear View Safety Backup Camera System?
You are correct that the cameras on the RearView Safety # RVS-770614 have an inline 3 amp fuse for an added layer of protection for the electrical components. When it comes to the circuit breaker # 9510 that was mentioned when wiring into a switch like the # D16740, this is more of a precautionary measure to help protect the electrical components in the system, as well as the switch that is being used in the event of an electrical malfunction. I spoke with my contact at Rear View Safety...

  • Could Cameras of Furrion Vision S Camera System be Active All the Time
The cameras of the Furrion Vision S Systems # FOS05TASF are normally powered by the running light circuit of the trailer wiring. In order to have them on when parked and/or towing you'd have to have them ran to a power source that's on all the time like to a RV battery or to the 12 volt accessory circuit of the trailer wiring. You could put a switch on the battery circuit like you mentioned so that it's only active when you want it to be. It would be a matter of wiring a switch in line...

  • Is It Possible to Turn Furrion Side Camera Observation System into Motion Sensor Camera
You'd have to source a 12 volt motion sensor trigger to wire to the power sources of the cameras in the Furrion side marker light kit part # FCE48TASL so that the cameras only have power when the motion sensor is triggered. While we don't carry motion sensor triggers they are pretty easily found online. You'd need one to basically act as a 12 volt relay. So the sensor would be wired to your RV battery directly through a switch like # D16740 and it would complete the power circuit to the...

  • Radiator Fan Recommendation for a 1993 Chrysler Lebaron LE 3.0L 6 Cylinder
The Derale 14 inch Dyno-Cool Curved-Blade Electric Fan - 1,230 CFM, item # D18914, would be a good choice for your 1993 Chrysler Lebaron if the dimensions will work with the area you have to mount the fan to your radiator. You will need to measure to determine the room you have to mount the fan on your LeBaron. Electrical components are not included, so you would need a Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans, item # D16740, to wire this fan. I have posted a picture of the wiring...

  • Switch to Use for Trailer Lights Powered by Trailer's Battery
You have it figured out I'd say. It really is just a matter of running the lights to the battery you install in your trailer like you mentioned. We use switch part # D16740 a lot for this type of install. Check out the install video link I attached to see the install process using this switch to power lights. No fuses or resistors would be needed either. 14 gauge wire would be adequate as well.
