transfer switch

This transfer switch has been pre-wired to automatically change the primary source of AC current from shore power to generator or inverter power when activated. It has a 50-amp double pole switch that includes (2) 120V legs, which can provide 240V service if needed. To prevent electrical interruptions, the time delay circuit board allows the alternate power source to stabilize before a transfer occurs. Additionally, since the switch only accepts one active source, it protects your electrical system from dangerous backfeed that can damage your equipment.

The metal case has cord knockouts for the various connections.

Automatic Transfer Switch Installation

The switch wires to your shore power input and generator or inverter input. Both inputs are wired to the AC panel.

Ordered a transfer switch for my Newmar diesel pusher. The model Newmar recommended was in stock. It showed up on time as promised. Install was relatively easy.
Highly recommend etrailer!

Transfer switch has perfectly...

by:

I gave this 3 stars because the original switch (same make/model/identical to this one) failed shortly after the warranty expired. Very annoying. I use my trailer heavily 6 months/year (snowbirds), so maybe the manufacturer intended this unit for occasional weekend summertime use. IDK. I bought the same make/model because it was easier than researching a different replacement and I needed a replacement NOW. etrailer had it in-stock at a similar price to other retailers, and they shipped it quickly. I've always had good experiences buying from etrailer.

I can't say that this a bad unit, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that it failed right after the warranty expired.

FWIW, my original unit failed because the shore power relay froze in the "off" or "almost off" position. When I plugged into shore power, the relay would not move. I tried applying power to the generator input, and the relay made a really bad, scary, grinding noise.

The replacement works fine.

This transfer switch replaced my failed TS that had the built in surge protection that was a widespread issue. It has been working great for over a year now.

by:

This transfer switch was recommended by our RV specialist. It was a perfect replacement for our 2006 Monaco Diplomat. Although, he was amazing in how he mounted it. (Also note that I appreciate the 1 year product review. Most companies ask for a review even before you receive the product. That makes no sense. 1 year is good.)

by:

The switch was a replacement for one that was fried due to fluctuating ground (shore) power during a major mid-west storm last week that put thousands without power. I called etrailer (our internet was out as well) and found that they had one in stock. I ordered it and it was on my doorstep 5 days later...which isn't bad for something that had to be shipped via ground from Salt Lake city. It's an exact replacement and it arrived in good condition due to the excellent packing.

I've ordered before from etrailer.com and they usually have what I want in stock. I live about 100 miles from the STL area and the shipping is usually 2 days even though they advertise that it might be 4-5. The company has good technical support and for certain items, good installation videos.

Order was on time, install was simple.

It is working fine, the hard part was the install.

by:

All the information I needed was easy to find and their live chat helped confirm the part I chose. very helpful, much appreciated.

by:

etrailer had the part I needed but was incapable of shipping it overnight. The order was placed correctly as confirmed by the agent I contacted to find out where my order was. The order was shipped on Friday and not delivered until Monday. Because of this level of service I had to sit for 5 days without power.

by:

Although where I had to install this device was difficult, it works great!!

by:

Good looking box, great shipping

by:

Works great. Easy to install.

by:

arrived on time and fixed the problem

by:

The transfer switch was a direct replacement for a unit in a 2020 travel trailer. To my way of thinking that was premature for the age of the unit. Unit was easily replaced and was functioning well when the trailer was recently sold.

by:

why are the nipples stamped the wrong way,, shows that no one is doing quality check , very poor.

by:

PD52 was ordered on 7/12/20 via internet. No contact with me till I called on Thursday, 7/16 and order was found. Paid for 4-6 day delivery. Shipping e-mail received on 7/17/20 via UPS. Package delivered on 7/21/20. Item was inside larger cardboard box with no package material, bouncing around and box was damaged. Hoping electronic components are OK. To be installed on 7/24/20 by electrician. Very first problem with e-trailer after many orders.

by:

Perfect fit for what we needed!

by:

The transfer relay was as represented and works great. I didn’t have generator power or shore power. In fact 240v was in my outlets in half of the motor home. My original transfer relay had one relay for each leg. This one has only two, and works great. It took a little to be sure I was wiring it correctly. I also replaced the box to plug in my shore cord. A previous owner had pulled away with the cable still attached. I used a “drill to fit” plastic box from a big box store. I have both generator and shore power.

by:

etrailer customer service is AMAZING. I had a few questions & concerns about the product & they were very knowledgeable & made sure I understood everything.

by:

So far it’s been working as expected, it fits in the same spot as the other one. No humming no sounds other than when power goes out and you hear a loud thump.

by:

Unit was as expected. R&R with zero issues. Thank you!

by:

We’ve ordered from etrailer before and the speed of their shipping is unbeatable so we knew who to order from when our generator transfer switch failed from a power surge. They came through for us once again when we were in a bind! I paid for 2 day shipping and it was packaged and shipped immediately and delivered exactly when they estimated. It was packaged well and functions exactly the way it should. Very pleased!! Thank you

by:

The Transfer-Switch was easy to install and a very well made switch. American Made products or the only thing I want to purchase .

by:

Since the previous transfer switch was discontinued I purchased this item. Had to trouble shoot just how connections went however not very difficult. Unit has been in for one year with no issues.

by:

I bought a nice, but used diesel motorhome. The years old PD52 stopped working after two camping trips. The past owners had left a new auto switch, a different, more expensive, brand. I installed it and I wasn't happy with it.

I ordered a PD52, two day delivery. It came on schedule and I am back up and running again!

I am going to order another since the price is right! Good to have a spare although I am confident it will be a long while before I need it.

I like this product!

by:

Direct replacement for the factory unit. Has worked great.

  • Can 50 Amp Power Inlet Support 240V?
The Mighty Cord Replacement RV Power Inlet - 50 Amp Twist Lock - White # A10-50INVP will allow you to use a cable like Mighty Cord RV Power Cord with Handle - 50 Amp Male to Twist Lock Female Connector - 25' Long # A10-5025ED. The voltage flowing through these connectors can be the 240v you referenced as long as your RV transfer switch is rated for such. If you need that, I recommend the Progressive Dynamics Transfer Switch - Metal Case - 50 Amp - 120V/240V # PD52.

  • Installation of Progressive Dynamics Transfer Switch in 2016 Newmar Dutch Star RV
I think that your level of comfort in doing this repair lies with your level of comfort in doing electrical work-if you'd be comfortable doing electrical work at your home, this probably isn't a huge undertaking. If it's not something that would normally be in your wheelhouse, I would rely on someone with electrical experience to complete this installation. With that being said, if you do decide to take this one on, I also recommend disconnecting any batteries as well- those are going...

  • Is Any Manual Switching Needed with Mighty-Mini Distribution Panel?
I assume that by “Van Power” you mean 12 volt charging via the 12 volt accessory and charging line coming from the van to the battery. As a matter of physics, the battery will see the 12-volt source with the highest voltage. So, if your van 12-volt line is supplying 13 volts and your solar panels are supplying 12.8 volts, then you will have charging at 13 volts without any intervention from the panel. When connected to shore or generator power the converter will charge the battery. When...

  • Recommended Made in USA 50 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch for RV
Yes, the Progressive Dynamics Transfer Switch part # PD52 has an automatic design with 50 amp rating and it's made right here in the USA. We also offer the Go Power Automatic Transfer Switch part # 34270278 which is an automatic switch with 50 amp rating made here in the USA. They are both great options, the Go Power is slightly smaller but I would go with whichever is more cost effective at the time.

I reached out to Progressive Dynamics to find out if you could have the shore power on the Normally Closed position for the Progressive Dynamics Transfer Switch # PD52, and this is what I was told via our tech contact: "I think there is confusion here; the PD52 uses two normally open contactors not a single relay with normally closed contacts in the inactive position as with the PD51. • Does Progressive Dynamics Control Center Convert to DC Power for Charging Battery
The Progressive Dynamics RV Power Control Center with AC/DC Panel and Converter/Smart Charger # PD4575K18LS8 does have a converter to go from AC power input to DC power to charge the batteries of your RV. This does not come with a transfer switch so if you were planning on powering the panel from two AC power sources like a generator and a campsite power plug you'd need a transfer switch like part # PD5110010Q if you have 30 amp service or part # PD52 if you have 50 amp service.

The PD1600 series contains an internal transfer switch. We do not recommend feeding the output of the inverter back to the MAIN AC distribution panel due to the fact that a fully operational panel would quickly drain the battery and the converter/charger must be isolated from the inverter when the inverter is operating. We recommend feeding the inverter AC IN from the main panel and feeding the AC OUT to a sub panel for multiple branch circuits or directly to a single branch circuit.
