Video Transcript for Curt Weight Distribution C45822 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt Weld-On Sway Control Tab. This tab is designed for adding a mounting plate for your sway control ball. It's going to be made from a steel construction, featuring a nice black powder coating finish on it to help it resist rust and corrosion. It does have an area on this side where the steel is exposed, this is for welding, so it is designed to get welded on to the side of your ball mount or weight distribution head assembly. Welding should be done, or performed by a qualified professional welder. Taking a few measurements of the sway control tab, starting with the overall length, it's going to give us a length measurement of 5 inches. The width measurement is going to be right at 2 inches.

The thickness of the tab, that's going to measure about 3/8ths of an inch in thickness. The hole on the unit is going to give us a diameter of 5/8ths of an inch. That's going to do it for today's look at the Curt Weld-On Sway Control Tab.

VERY disappointed that carton had no - zero! - packing material inside! A heavy bracket was packed in with a light bar - fragile item - in an average weight cardboard carton. It does not take Einstein himself to calculate the risk factor here! The lights inside the light bar had come out of their sockets and were ALSO rattling around in the carton! Please teach your people how to pack cartons correctly!!

This sway control package is just what we needed! After towing our 3300 lb camper home with my wifes Jeep Cherokee, WITHOUT an anti-sway bar, I said I wasn't towing the camper anywhere until we had this installed. We drove in 20-30 mph crosswinds the entire 4+ hour drive back. With this installed, we hardly notice it. Now, you can't get rid of the wind itself, but you certainly don't have to worry about the trailer starting to move around on it's own - this is great for stabilizing everything.

Easy to install - just used the template they include with it, and then just drilled some holes through the frame of the camper and installed the hitch, hooked up and we were ready to go. We only use Curt products for our vehicles, utility trailer, and camper - nothing compares in my opinion.

Had professional welder weld Sway bar tab to hitch for $20. Used for towing 23 foot rv trailer. Great solution for when you need a sway bar and you can’t get a pre made Hitch with sway bar tab

by:

Simple product that welds to the hitch but is needed with the sway control.

Product was delivered on time as promised and was of the quality that I expected. Will use this company for future trailer needs.

It works fine.

by:

Product is well built. I needed an antisway tab on the opposite side from the product pictured online, so I called and asked whether etrailer had a separate tab that I could weld where I needed it. Etrailer had it and the two items arrived very quickly by mail.

I now have the ball height I wanted and a good short distance from ball to bumper--and the antisway tab ball mount.

The setup should be just right for towing my 16' Casita with the Chevy Trail Blazer.

by:

Could be better not a very square cut...I put a square on it and has a small angle ...I will grind a little off to make it true to mate up to my hitch before I weld it on.....thanks

by:

Only problem was that it took 2 weeks to deliver. The package came to my city but was damaged and returned. An other one was sent to me. It is a good heavy duty product.

by:

You shipped it in a envelope. It arrived empty with a big tear in it. This item is clearly to heavy to be shipped this way.

  • How to Install Reese 83660 Friction Sway Control Unit on Both Sides of Trailer
You can certainly use the Reese # 83660 sway control kit on both sides of your trailer A-frame. There's a couple of ways to do this, but the most simple way would be to use your existing ball mount, and have a # C45822 sway control tab welded on both sides of the ball mount. The tabs should be welded in place by a qualified welder as shown in the provided diagram. Or, you could use the # RP26003 on the right side and have the # C45822 tab welded onto the left side. As a third alternative,...

  • Anti-Sway Options for Towing 33 Foot Camper
It is true that we recommend using 2 friction anti-sway systems like the Curt # 17200 when the trailer exceeds 26' long. This is simply because 1 system won't be effective enough to make a difference. I believe that you are referring to the Curt Forged Ball Mount # C45458 which has a 4" drop and fits 2-1/2" hitch receivers. You can have 2 of the weld-on sway control tab # C45822 installed on this ball mount so you can use 2 of the kit # 17200 and it would work just fine. Even though...

  • Sway Control Tab Recommendation for Adjustable Ball Mount
To add a bracket for a sway control hitch ball I recommend checking out the Curt Weld-On Sway Control Tab # C45822. It doesn't look like the ball mount part of the Ball Mount Adjustable with Sway-Control Tab, 6,000 lbs # 7390 is available separately which is why I recommend having that tab welded on.

  • Friction Sway Control Mounting Tabs for 2-Inch Ball Mounts
We do offer a 2-inch ball mount that has a friction anti-sway mounting tab already welded in place, Curt # D320, but this ball mount offers 2-inches of drop, not 4-inches. We do offer a 2-inch no-welding Sway-Control Bracket # RP26003 that fits on your ball mount in addition to the simple weld-on tabs # C45822 and # 3442.

  • How to Add a Second Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 for Larger Trailer
There are a couple of different ways you can go to add a second Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 to your larger trailer. The first, and probably simplest, way is to have 2 of the Weld-On Sway Control Tab # C45822 welded on to both sides of the ball mount. You will want to have these welded on by a qualified welder. I've included a diagram to help with the location of the tab for both width and depth so you will also want to ensure it is 5-1/2 inches on center from ball to ball. The...

  • Friction Sway Control Ball Mount Bracket Solution for Hitch Ball with 1-1/4 inch Shank
You could use a weld on tab for the side of your current ball mount with the part # C45822 but since the shank diameter of your ball is 1-1/4 inch there isn't a bracket that can fit under your ball as for that style there's only options that fit the 1 inch diameter shank balls.

  • Sway Control Bracket For A 2-1/2" Hitch And Other Potential Sway Control Options
Hey Jason, so unfortunately we do not carry a sway control bracket that is made for a 2-1/2" hitch. For that the only option would be to use a Weld-On Sway Control Tab # C45822 and have one attached to your current ball mount. I wanted to add that generally for larger trucks with 2-1/2" hitches we would recommend using a weight distribution hitch to help control and eliminate sway. The friction sway bars can work well, but they do become less effective on larger heavier trailers. I am...

  • Can a Friction Sway Control Bar Be Used with Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ballmount
The only way to use the Channel Style Adjustable Ballmount part # C45900 with the Curt Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution Systems part # 17200 would be to weld on the Weld-On Sway Control Tab part # C45822 onto the side of the channel and even then this isn't really ideal. If you don't know how to weld it could end up just being more cost effective to go with an electric option assuming the trailer has brakes, the Tuson Asymmetric Sway Control part # 335TSC-1000.

  • Installation of Second Curt Friction Sway Control With Adapter
If you have a weight distribution system with a head like the # PS58442 you were looking at the only thing you need to do is attach the # 17200 to the other side of the frame and insert the # C36BR in the hole on the other side. It sounds like the adapter you're referring to may be something like the # RP26003. Unfortunately, there is not a bolt on solution that will allow you to install 2 of the # 17200. The only option would be to use the Weld-On Sway Control Tab # C45822 and put one...

  • Adding a Mounting Plate for a Second Friction Sway Control Ball On a Ball Mount
You will need to use the weld-on friction sway control tab # C45822 or # 3442. It will get welded to the side of the ball mount. Welding should be performed by a qualified professional welder. Once welded on it will look like ball mount # D320 except the tab will be welded to the other side (since the plate you are using is occupying the passenger side of the ball mount).

  • Does B&W GM MultiPro Tailgate Ball Mount Come with Tab for Sway-Control Hitch Ball
The B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - Compatible with GM MultiPro Tailgate # BW44FR, and other options like it, don't come with a tab for an anti-sway bar but we do have the Curt Weld-On Sway Control Tab # C45822 which you can use to modify the B&W ball mount to fit your towing application. B&W didn't add provisions like this so you'll want to make sure to think about how you'll use the ball mount prior to welding this tab on so you get it in the right place the first time. • Distance Needed Between Hitch Ball and Sway Control Ball With Weld-On Tab
Yes, the Weld-On Sway Control Tab # C45822 will be okay with a 5-3/4" spread between the hitch ball and the Sway Control Ball # C36BR. The Reese Sway-Control Bracket # RP26003 has a 5-1/2" distance between the center of the bolt holes. The 5-1/2" is the narrowest measurement you want for most applications.

  • Options for Sway Control Tab on Ball Mount for Curt Friction Sway Control
If the sway control tab of your Curt ball mount part # D320 ended up bending you most likely turned too sharply which caused the unit to put too much strain on the tab and bend/break it. Now that said you can basically put the tab on any ball mount you want (as long as it's steel) with a weld on tab like # C45822. Or if you didn't want to weld you could use the # RP26003 which will fit under the ball.

To add a second friction sway control, you will need the second Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 and you'll need to weld a tab onto your trailer hitch ball platform like # C45822. The friction bar will simply be inverted on the left side, but that will not impact the function and is designed for use on either side. • How To Minimize Trailer Sway While Towing
It sounds to me like you are experiencing trailer sway. Although the Timbren springs are an excellent suspension enhancement option, they are not the best option to eliminate trailer sway or stability, but they will help increase the stability of your truck while under load. I do have a solution to help with the sag in your tow vehicle as well as with sway control for your enclosed car hauler, but unfortunately 28-1/2" arms on a Weight Distribution (WD) system is the shortest that we have to offer. Most people like to use a sway control like the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 which can be used without a WD system. You will just need a way to mount the small hitch ball.
