Why Doesn't Curt Hitch 14301 Bolt to Bumper
Question:
I see in a previous QandA that #14301 does not bolt to the bumper. It has 6 bolts for the frame. 4 through bolts and 2 threaded. However, I just removed the OEM hitch from by 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 and it had eight bolts, the 6 on the frame and two threaded bolts on the bumper. Why no threaded bolts into the bumper on this hitch?

Expert Reply:
It's hard to say exactly why the Curt hitch part # 14301 doesn't bolt to the bumper like the OEM hitch but most likely they determined that it didn't add much to the strength of the hitch so they left it off. The hitch has been thoroughly tested and has a higher weight capacity of 10,000 lbs so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
