Can You Upgrade 4.80-12 Trailer Tires for More Ground Clearance

Question:

I have an old trailer with 4.8 - 12 tires. As close as I can measure it is 3”” center to center on the studs. I want more ground clearance. No fenders to interfere. Is there a taller rim and tire that will fit on this hub.

If you simply switch from a 4.80-12 tire to a 5.30-12 tire you'll gain over 5/8" of ground clearance, I recommend the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM10066 for this. If you would like to go larger you'll need to know the bolt pattern to see this is an option. I have attached a help article below to help you determine this.

That said, larger wheels/tires is typically not the best option for more ground clearance as the gains are minimal and can create other issues. Depending on how much lift you need, the Correct Track Trailer Alignment and Lift Kit part # LC87120 would be a better option as it offers 1-1/4" or 2-1/4".
