Stronger, More Heavy Duty Trailer Tire to Replace 4.80-12 Tires on a Boat Trailer

Question:

Is there a tire I can use that will last longer, be more heavy duty and reliable than the 4.80X12B tires I have been using on my boat trailer for the last 17 years?

What you could do is go up to the next highest load range. The tire will have a higher capacity and ply rating so it will be more heavy duty and last longer. Please note though that using higher capacity tires will not increase the capacity of the trailer.

For a load range C tire in size 4.80-12 you can use # AM10062. It is rated for 990 pounds at 90 psi. It has a 6 ply rating. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire.

The other option I would recommend is to go to a 5.30-12 tire because it will fit the same wheels as the 4.80-12. But it will be 1.4 inches taller and about 0.75 inches wider than a 4.80-12. If the trailer has space for the wider, taller tire then it would be a good option.

For a load range C use # AM10066. It is rated for 1,045 pounds at 80 psi. It has a 6 ply rating.
