Recommended Weight Distribution System for Fleetwood Niagara Pop-Up With 4,000 lb GVWR
Question:
We have a Fleetwood Niagara pop up camper, 4000 GVWR, 230 TW, should I get the 600 6000 WD sway hitch or 400 4000? looking at the Reese 66558. I am pulling with a 2004 f150 crew cab. I pull a boat this same weight without a WD or sway hitch but looking for more safety. Thanks

Based on your 4,000 lb GVWR and 230 lb dry tongue weight the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66558, which has a tongue weight capacity of between 400 lbs - 600 lbs could be a great choice, though In order to choose the best weight distribution system you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2004 Ford F-150.
The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the etrailer # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.
With a dry tongue weight of 230 lbs and GVWR of 4,000 lbs the Steadi-Flex # RP66558 would likely be a great choice but you will want to verify the numbers for yourself. Please keep in mind this weight distribution system will require a hitch ball, either # A-90 for a 2" ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16" ball.
I've added a link to video reviews of this system for you to take a look at as well.
