Difference Between Strap and Cable for Winches Like Dutton Lainson Winch DL15403
Question:
Can you only use a cable system, or can the strap still be used? Ive never used a cable is it better than the strap? Thanks.

The wire cable will allow you to have a longer lead and will not offer any amount of give. Using a strap can limit the length of the lead. If you will be winching items that need to have the lead wrapped around them, the strap will be gentler on your cargo than the wire rope. Another factor to consider is that the wire rope is more difficult to cut than a strap. Straps are a bit easier to wrap on the spool of the winch too as it's just one layer on top of the other. Also straps are a bit easier on your hands when handling them. You wouldn't really need gloves like a cable would require.
The Dutton Lainson Winch part # DL15403 can be used with either a cable or strap. For a strap the part # DL24249 is a 25 foot long option that would work well. This would be what I would recommend.
