Question:
Dear Sir or Madam, I want to wire my Dakota for towing a travel trailer with a 7-flat plug. From reading your website, it appears I will need the following 3 products: 1. 4-way kit 55323 2. Brake Controller and 7-wau install kit ETBC7 3. Brake Controller 90885 Is this correct and do I need anything else? Does ETBC7 has enough wire for my quadcab? Good news! You are on the right track to equip your 2004 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab with wiring to tow.
Since your Dakota doesn't have the tow package then yes, you will need the 4-way wiring # 55323 first, this will simply plug and play with your current taillights. I've linked an installation video on a similar vehicle to show you how easy it is.
You are correct that to get a 7-way round plug with flat blade connections you will want the # ETBC7. This will adapt your 4-way connection to provide you with both the 7&4-way at the rear of the vehicle. The # ETBC7 comes with everything you will need to get it installed. You will get 25 feet of duplex wire and according to my research your vehicle's overall length is right about 18 feet, so 25 feet will be more than enough for you. We have a video of the # ETBC7 being installed on a similar truck to yours, I've linked that to this page for you to check out. If you feel like you will want extra wire we do offer it by the foot with # 10-2-1.
To control the trailer brakes you will need a brake controller in the truck. The Tekonsha P2 # 90885 is a great brake proportional brake controller. A proportional brake controller means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and applies the trailer's brakes with the same intensity. This is the best selling controller on the market because of how easy it is to setup and use, and how well it works. The P3 # 90195 is like the P2's big brother it has all the same great features but it also comes with a full display screen instead of codes that need deciphering. The brake controller (P2 or P3) will include a universal wiring harness that will connect to all the connections needed, so you will not need another adapter.
I have linked all the above products to this page for your purchasing convenience.
