Video Transcript for WeatherTech Easy-On Stone and Bug Shield Deflector Installation - 2022 Ram 1500

Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at and showing you how to install this WeatherTech Easy-On stone and bug guard for our 2022 Ram 1500. It's a really easy installation for your truck. No drilling required. Uses existing factory holes and it's going to provide some protection for the paint on the front end of our truck.

This guard will protect against any bugs splatters on the road, and for some rocks, maybe flying up, prevent it from hitting that front edge of our hood. Let's check it out. So you can see it's a nice custom fit for our truck, wrapping around all these contours and even matching this front divot on the vehicle. So everything's gonna look like it belongs and fit really well. You've got that nice smoke black appearance which I think actually looks pretty good on the truck here and it's going to be made of a really strong acrylic material.

It's not gonna be impact or scratch proof, but it is going to be impact and scratch resistant. Really nothing is scratch proof, but I think this will hold up really well if you do have some rocks flying up on the road. Now just because this is installed, doesn't mean it's gonna get in your way. You can still open and close the hood just fine with no clearance issues. And again, it's really easy to install.

It uses existing factory holes. So let's check out that process right now. First part of the install is to lift the hood up, and we're gonna look at the rubber seal underneath. I'll pull this down a little bit so it's easier for you guys to see, but underneath the seal, there's going to be a plastic piece with a bunch of these fasteners. Basically what we're gonna do is, line up our bug deflector with those.

So underneath, we've got our mounting points. Line this up with that plastic piece, and then you'll see that those holes actually line up with some of those plastic fasteners. And what you wanna do is take note of these where they fall around the vehicle and we're gonna be removing those. So if you need to, you can mark them out with a paint marker or something. I'm going to just remember them because they're pretty easy to keep track of. I know I'm going for this middle one here, I know I need this first one after the rubber stop and the very end one, so I'll go ahead and remove those now. Now when you're doing this, you might feel like there's a lot of resistance and that's true. These are very stiff. If they do snap in the process, that's okay, we're not reusing them. Just make sure that you put the appropriate amount of pressure and have a tool like this that you can use to get some good leverage. Now, when you're setting this into place, you want these flanges to line up underneath the rubber seal, so it might be helpful to have an extra set of hands, one on either side so that you can get it aligned properly. I'm gonna try it solo first, just working my way from one side over to the other. Careful to keep all of those flanges aligned and make sure that they stay underneath the rubber seal. Once you have them all lined up, you can come back through with those fasteners we showed you and start tightening them down. So those outermost ones probably the easiest to see on camera. You can line up our bug shield with the hole and the hood and the rubber seal. Put that fastener into place, making sure it inserts fully into that factory hole and then secure it down with a Phillips head screw. Now that screw is included in the fastener, but using your Phillips head screwdriver and make sure it's nice and snugly in place. Now to get everything lined up, we did end up using a second set of hands. My cameraman on this side while I was on the opposite side to make sure everything's seated under weather tripped properly. But overall, it was pretty easy to do and we'll repeat this process around for the other holes. After all the fasteners are secured, we can shut the hood and make sure everything clears and lines up properly. Check to make sure everything's centered. If we do need to make some adjustments, you can loosen up those fasteners and do that. But right now, I'd say it's looking pretty good. I'm just using the seams along the panels here to judge whether it's centered or not. And of course, look at the center section right here since it does stick out on our truck. Everything's looking really good. Lines up well, the hood closes without any issues. My pro tip, after doing the install would be to wear some gloves. This does attract some fingerprints, so if you want it to stay nice and clean, wear some gloves during the install and then once it's on, you're good to go. And that was our look at WeatherTech Easy-On stone and bug guard for our 2022 Ram 1500..

It is a quality product, but I would not say it is an easy install. After removing the necessary fasteners, it was tricky getting the tabs lined up between the rubber lip and hood. I don’t think I could have accomplished this without my wife’s help. Secondly, some of six included replacement fasteners were extremely difficult to install.

Weathertech only included the six required fasteners with no spares. I bent the tips of the two most outboard fasteners trying to get them aligned with the existing holes (hard to see when peering through the rubber and shield), so those two are not properly anchored at the moment.

I contacted Weathertech; they are sending me replacements free of charge. Weathertech should consider including a few extras in the kit.

The install, which after viewing etrailer’s excellent video, should have taken 30 minutes or less, but because of those fastener issues, took me about 1.5 hours.

Another prefect fit with a WeatherTech product. Plastic fasteners are quick but seem flimsy. Hope they are more durable than they appear. Service from etrailer team perfect, as it always has been. Thanks.

I purchased this bug deflector for my Jayco Greyhawk motorhome about a year ago and it has held up beautifully. I am sure that without it I would have chips and issues on the motorhome after putting 15k miles on it. Thanks e-trailer for quick shipments and great support.

by:

It fit fine. Only issue was with the first hole on the drivers side. It was either thin or drilled a bit larger as the screw for it would not bite and hold. I used a clip I had on hand for this and it worked fine.

by:

I really like it. Easy to install and very sleek looking
I need to order another one because I hit a deer and my hood is getting replaced, so I will be getting another one

by:

Really great product and a perfect hood protector from road rocks and bugs.

I have purchased and used WeatherTech products in the past, always had good quality and concise installation instructions. I recently added the Stone and Bug deflector on my 2019 Colorado, it looks great. Having a new windshield installed because of a stone crack, hope to avoid these in the future.

by:

I ordered a bug deflector specific for my truck but this one seemed to be a generic for GM trucks. the tabs did not fit properly for the underside of my hood. The double sided tape did not match properly to the underside of the hood and the tape was not sticky enough to adhere to the metal. The outboard retainer clips were not the proper style to clip to my hood and stay in place. Road vibaration causes the clips to disengage each time I drive the vehicle

by:

Easy installation, arrived fast and great price!

by:

Install went ok, some of the red plastic you pull off the adhesive broke off and would not come off. Hope it will not effect long term performance of bug shield.

by:

Weather Tech Easy-on bug guard has worked great since installed a year ago. UV damage has not occurred. Holds up extremely well to driving usage.

by:

Looks Good and Does what it is made to do. Thanks etrailer

I’ve owned six chevy trucks. My current trusted steed is a 2008, silverado 2500HD, ext cab, long box. I bought it new and now have 339,000 miles on her. I added this bug shield to offer more protection and grace. It worked! Love it.

by:

Had this bug deflector for a year now. Very happy with it. Easy to install yourself using existing parts on the stock truck. Better than the adhesive only on other brands. Solid and looks great.

Easy to install and durable!
