Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Maximize Towing Capacity

The SuperHitch Everest weight distribution system was designed to work exclusively with your SuperHitch Magnum dual-receiver trailer hitch (sold separately). By adding this system to your SuperHitch towing setup you will maximize your towing capacity. The result is a heavy-duty system that is capable of meeting your needs for nearly any towing application.

Unique Features of the SuperHitch Everest Weight Distribution System

In addition to creating one of the highest-rated weight distribution systems on the market in terms of capacity, TorkLift also built the Everest to stand apart from the competition by offering several unique features that help make installation fast and easy.

Simple Head Adjustment

The standard method for adjusting the tilt of a weight distribution head is the pin-and-washer method. This involves piling washers - one on top of another - onto a difficult-to-access pin. TorkLift has done away with this outdated - and often frustrating - process. Instead, the Everest system uses easy-to-see, simple-to-maneuver spacers. Two spacer blocks - one for each side of the system's head - are included so that you can adjust the head to get the desired tilt for your setup.

TorkLift Everest Weight Distribution Head without Spacer

To adjust the tilt of the Everest head, first mount the head to an adjustable shank with 1" diameter bolt holes (TLM9010 or TLM9011 - sold separately). The top bolt hole on the system head is oblong, allowing for a wide range of movement.

TorkLift Everest Weight Distribution Spacer Installation

Place the spacers on either side of the head, with the upper hex bolt holding them in place. Flip and rotate the spacers as needed until the desired position is achieved. Make sure that the majority of each spacer sits between the 2 stops on the head assembly and not above the ball platform.

Adjustable Collar Brackets

The lift brackets on most weight distribution systems are static. And because the chains that attach to them are typically attached to set points on the spring bars, you don't have a lot of options in that initial positioning process.

TorkLift Everest Weight Distribution Collar Brackets

The Everest system features adjustable collars that slide along the spring bars for optimal positioning. Now you can determine where you want the lift chains to be anchored on the bars. As a result, you can manipulate the amount of leverage on the bars and you can customize the placement of the chain brackets on your trailer frame. This allows you to set up the brackets on your frame so that they will clear frame-mounted obstacles. When you've determined the proper mounting points for the chain brackets and have adjusted the collars so that the chains line up with the brackets, secure each collar to the spring bars by tightening the integrated hex bolts.

TorkLift Everest Weight Distribution Collar Spacing

Note: Each adjustable collar must be secured to the spring bar within 8" from the end of the bar.

Hydraulic-Assisted Setup

Typically when you're setting up a weight distribution system, the most frustrating part is attaching the spring bars to the brackets on the trailer. To achieve the proper amount of tension for the system, the chains suspending the bars must be taut, which means that a great deal of leverage is required to hoist the bars high enough to hook the chains at the correct link. Although a snap-up lever is usually included with standard systems so that you can get enough leverage to adequately lift the spring bars, this still requires a good amount of manual effort.

TorkLift Everest Weight Distribution Hydraulic Assist

TorkLift has taken virtually all of the effort - and the frustration - out of the setup process by including a hydraulic assist with the Everest weight distribution system. This simple solution for raising spring bars involves using the included bottle jack. Just insert the end of a spring bar into the specially designed Z-Bar Lifter that sits on top of the jack and then operate the jack with the included handle.

TorkLift Everest Weight Distribution Proper Chain Tension

Once the bar is raised to the desired height, slip the proper chain link between the tabs on the chain bracket and install a clevis pin to secure the chain to the bracket. Repeat the process for the spring bar on the other side of the system and you're good to tow.

This product is heavy duty. However, forklift didn’t write a good installation manual. Here are some examples: 1) the instructions have you measure the trailer and tow vehicle but never tell you what to do with the measurements; 2) the instructions tell you to determine the proper angle for the ball and distribution bars, but the manual doesn’t say how to determine this angle; videos on torklift’s website also don’t show the angle needed.

I installed this on a camp trailer and the small jack torklift includes for lifting the bars was too small. It doesn’t have enough lift height to get the bars into position.

All my trailers are work-pigs as are the trucks which tow them. Even though we don't abuse our equipment, if there's a breaking point, we will test those limits. A salute to the manufacturer. Like a "Timex", it just keeps on ticking. We say "Thank-you" For a product that stands the test of time & real work.!!

This seemed like a great hitch system but the weight of it is extreme and the additional components of it also make it super heavy

  • Can Weight Distribution for 2,200 lb be Used with 1,100 lb Tongue Weight
When using a weight distribution for a tongue weight of 2,200 lbs like the Torklift SuperHitch part # TLWD1000 that is setup for that tongue weight you would have to disconnect the spring bars if you were to lower the tongue weight by 1,000 lbs as it would be far too stiff and harsh and would unweight the rear axle of the tow vehicle potentially.
