There is some basic information you need before you can choose the right weight distribution system for your set up. First, you need to know the tongue weight of the trailer. Second, you will need to know the gross weight of the trailer you plan to tow. These are two of the most important factors in choosing a weight distribution system.

Usually, you will need weight distribution if the trailer weight is at least 50 percent of the vehicle weight or if the coupled trailer causes the rear of the vehicle to sag. I have included a link that explains how to calculate tongue weight. This article has a lot of helpful information on weight distribution.

Weight distribution systems can come with different types of spring bars. There are round and trunnion styles. Trunnion style spring bars are used on higher capacity systems because they can handle more weight.

You will also need to decide whether or not you want to have sway control. Sway control is always a good idea because it keeps the trailer from swaying due to cross winds or passing vehicles. The two main types of sway control are friction and dual-cam. Friction sway control is a reactive system meaning it works to stop trailer sway after swaying has already started. Dual-cam is a pro-active system that stops sway before it starts. Trunnion bars are considered more heavy duty, they are easier to install/use than round bars, and provide better ground clearance

Take a look at the FAQ and decide the weight of your trailer and its tongue weight. You can then choose the best system. You will want a system with a range that contains your specific tongue and trailer weight. using a larger system will result in a stiff ride.
