Recommended Weight Distribution System to Tow 19K TW Toy Hauler With a 2017 Ram 3500

Question:

I have a set up on my truck that was used with an 03 2500 ram. My new truck is a 3500 and the hitch is too high with it set on the lowest setting. My hitch head has the slotted washers for the head angle adjustment. I see you state I cannot use the 54977 with the slotted washer set up. Is there another option that I am missing? I have to get the nose of the trailer down. My truck is 2017 Ram 3500 with 2 1/2inch receiver. My trailer is toy hauler @ ~ 12,500 lbs on average with a current tongue weight of 1,900 lbs. I am using the 1,700 lbs bars. Let me know if I have an option to get the ball lower. Thanks,

Since your current Tongue Weight (TW) is 1,900 lbs the Reese Titan Weight Distribution (WD) Shank # RP54977 will not be compatible since it is only rated for 1,700 lbs. Keep in mind that the TW of your trailer needs to be 10-15% the weight of your loaded trailer. You will also want to make sure that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your setup falls in the middle of the weight range that your WD system has. Your TTW can be found by adding the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer with the weight of any cargo that sits behind the rear axle of your 2017 Ram 3500. If you are using the 1,700 lbs bars then your WD system is definitely not strong enough.

None of our available 2-1/2 inch WD shanks can deal with more than 1,700 lbs. Because of this and because your system is already underrated I highly recommend going with a new WD system for your safety and the safety of other people on the road.

We have just a few WD systems that are rated for that much TW, but only one that will give you more than 2 inches of drop. That is the TorkLift SuperHitch Everest Weight Distribution System # TLWD1000 which has a TW range of 1,500-3,000 lbs. You will also need to get the 2-5/16 inch Hitch Ball # C40085 and either the 12-1/2 inch Shank # TLM9010 or the XL 17-1/2 inch Shank # TLM9011.

The thing that makes the Everest so heavy-duty is that it installs into 2 hitch receivers. Since you already have the OEM 2-1/2 inch receiver installed on your 2017 Ram 3500 you will also need the TorkLift SuperHitch Magnuml Trailer Hitch Receiver # TLD1108-30. This will give you the 2 inch receiver that the Everest WD shanks need. This hitch is designed to be installed on 2017 Ram 3500s with a 6 foot or 8 foot bed and that have the factory trailer hitch installed already.

This is the safest WD system that we have that will give you a drop that you need to tow your heavy toy hauler.
