Video Transcript for Polar Hardware Enclosed Trailer Parts - Doors - PLR9-A Review
Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hook and Keeper for enclosed trailers. A Hook and Keeper is used to hold doors and windows open on your enclosed trailer. One piece is mounted to the side of the trailer, typically this piece right here. The other is mounted to the door, which would typically be this piece right here. Once you open your door the hook goes into the keeper, and that's going to hold the door, or window, on your enclosed trailer in the open position. Nice secure connection point right there. Each piece is going to feature the pre-drilled mounting holes.
These are designed for a total of eight #10 mounting screws, those are not included, so they will need to be provided separately. The mount holes on the unit will accept 3/16" diameter hardware. The mount hole spacing, it's going to be the same for each piece, because that back plate measures the same. Center-on-center is about 1" separation, going this direction center-on-center is about 2 5/16" on center. Very nice aluminum construction, extremely lightweight design, but aluminum is strong and durable.
It's also going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. The hook itself is going to measure about 4" long. That's measuring from the back of the plate to the furthest outpoint of the hook, you can see there, pretty close to 4". This piece right here, it's going to give us a measurement of 1 3/4" wide, with a height measurement of 3". Then this piece is going to measure the same. You can see that that backing plate is exactly the same on each piece.
This ones going to have an overall depth, that's how far it sticks out from the mounting surface of about 11/16" deep. This piece is going to have a depth with that hook down of about 3/8", and then again with it out about 4". That's going to do it for today's look at the Hook and Keeper for enclosed trailers. .

I bought this to replace my Escape 17B travel trailer’s original plastic hook that became brittle and then broke several years ago. Easily installed using a cheap rivet gun I bought from Walmart. The hook’s and keeper’s lower two holes of the four holes for riveting did not exactly match the original holes of the broken plastic so I had to drill a little, but it’s not a problem. It looks so good on my fiberglass travel trailer. Excellent product from etrailer.com. Thanks a lot etrailer!

Like most any lock they can be a little temperamental after being out in weather a while, but a shot of lock lube or WD40 takes care of that. "Training the lock to your given key is a breeze, and I definitely like the convenience of not having to try and recall which key is needed to use them!

These are perfect for securing open the heavy steel doors on a large storage shed. Effectively stops the wind caused slamming of the doors. Easily installed with 3/16" dia. pop rivets for a smooth tamper-free finish. Light weight non-rust aluminum. Thank you etrailer.com!

Keeper was flush mounted and did not line up with hook correctly. I had to use washers to bump out one side to make it work, but it does work.

- Is the Hook and Keeper for Enclosed Trailer Door PLR9-A Spring LoadedThe Hook and Keeper for Enclosed Trailer Door part # PLR9-A are not spring loaded. That said, we do have spring loaded options like the 45-Degree T-Style Hook and Keeper Door Holder for Enclosed Trailer part # 37211765. We don't have any straight spring loaded hook and keepers unfortunately.

- Solution to Hold Swinging Trailer Doors OpenWhat we have is a Hook and Keepr # PLR9-SS in stainless steel, # PLR9-A in aluminum, and # 383400 zinc plated. These are used to hold trailer doors open similarly to how you are using a hook and chain. One piece is conneted to the side of the trailer and the other is connected to the door. The hook slides inside of the keeper when open to hold the door in place.
