Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel King Pin SWW-03 Review

Speaker 1: We're gonna take a look at the 5th Airborne Custom Wedge for the Reese and Draw-Tite Select Series 5th Wheels. Now a 5th wheel wedge is a simple but reliable way to allow a 5th wheel hitch to be used with a 5th wheel sidewinder pin box. This custom wedge bolts in place to the universal wedge on the pin box and it'll provide a new pivot point for the king pin and wider turn radius for the 5th wheel trailer. So to keep the pin box from swiveling at the 5th wheel hitch head, this custom wedge is mounted to the pin box. It'll insert into the hitch head, and it locks the pin box into place. Since the pivot point is then moved toward the rear of your tow vehicle you can easily make 90 degree turns, even with a short bed truck. Now, this 5th wheel wedge is designed to fit the Reese and Draw-Tite Select Series 5th wheels, and it'll accommodate the Sidewinder or the 5th Airborne Sidewinder pin boxes. If you notice, it has a nice, durable carbide black powder coat finish on it to help resist corrosion.

It includes everything shown here, the wedge and the mounting bolts to install it. But that should do it for the review on the 5th Airborne Sidewinder Custom Wedge for Reese and Draw-Tite Select Series 5th Wheels.

Got this as I found the generic wedge supplied with the Sidewinder was making it hard to hitch up/uncouple. Would not easily go into the Reese hitch or release the pin as easily as the regular pin box. This wedge helped, but still find hook up/uncoupling to be harder than before I switched to the sidewinder. Need to be very straight onto hitch when backing up or uncoupling.

by:

This wedge has a better fit with my Reese hitch than the universal wedge. Works great with my Sidewinder hitch. Strong.

by:

This product allowed me to couple and decouple my truck from in a matter of minutes compared with the twenty it took me with the universal wedge that was originally supplied with my sidewinder kingpin. Great product, no issues and excellent delivery from etrailer

by:

I have always had great service from etrailer, have not installed hitch yet but all packaging was in good shape and all parts and hardware are included. If I have any problem I'm sure the people at etrailer will be there as they have been with my orders in the past.

by:

I replaced the original wedge from the Sidewinder. This wedge is working a little better than the original, however it still requires some precision when hooking up.

by:

It does the job for my Reese 5th wheel hitch

by:

Great product and great customer service.
Our

Contacted etrailer and within 24 hours had an answer to my question. Thank you Chris

by:

Good product and great service with Etrailer staff, but this wedge did not fit, easy return.

Product worked better than the Universal wedge. Had to loosen it up a little to get the right catch. Then sick it down!

Wedge fits and works great on my sidewinder and 16k hitch.

  • Leland 7921 Compatibility with Sliding Hitch in 2013 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 5 Foot 8 Inch Bed
With your 2013 Chevy Silverado, the 5 foot 8 inch short bed truck won't be enough even with your pin box and super glide. If you had the 6-1/2 foot bed you'd be just fine but that 5 foot 8 inch bed requires a solid hitch and a Sidewinder because there simply isn't enough travel with the slider to give you the needed clearance. I recommend the Sidewinder Fifth Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret by 5th Airborne, 16K # ST400-5AS16K to replace your Leland 7921 pin box. This will use a wedge...

  • Sidewinder/Reese Revolution Wedge Recommendation for Reese 30047 Fifth Wheel Hitch
The Sidewinder Wedge Kit, # SWW-03, was designed to work with the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, # RP30047 that you have and would be your best option. The universal wedge that came with the Revolution would work too, but it wouldn't be as perfect of a fit.

  • Will Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitch Work with Lippert Turning Point Pin Box
Yes, your existing Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitch (our part # RP30047) is compatible and will work perfectly with the Lippert Turning Point Pin Box as long as you use the appropriate wedge. The Turning Point might come with its own wedge but if not you can use the Reese Custom Wedge # SWW-03. This is what keeps the king pin from pivoting at the jaw connection on the hitch.

  • Recommended Sidewinder Pin Box for 2012 Chevy Silverado with 5.8 Foot Bed and Reese 16K Hitch
For your 2006 Keystone Cougar, I recommend the 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin w/ Sidewinder and Turret - 16,000 lbs # RP61422 for the best ride due to the air cushioned pin box to reduce jarring and chucking. If you just want the standard Sidewinder, then # RP34FR is what you are seeking. For your Reese 16K hitch, you will need to leave the slider locked in the forward towing position and I recommend custom wedge # SWW-03. If you want to replace the slider base or...

The Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP56034-53 and the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs # RP30047 are confirmed to fit your truck and will work with a Sidewinder pin box. The Sidewinder pin box # RP34FR is rated for 20,000 lbs . You also could use the Air Ride # RP61422 if you prefer for a smoother ride. This will move the turning point of your trailer back to allow for cab clearance when turning....

Since you have a Lippert 1621 pin box the 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin w/ Sidewinder and Turret - 16,000lbs Item # RP61422 is the correct replacement. For the hitch I recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000lbs # RP30047 with the Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Ram OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package - 25,000lbs # RP30154. • Will the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Work With the Lippert Turning Point Pin Box
If you are referring to the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30047 then yes, this will work with the Lippert Turning Point Pin Box on your 2013 GMC Sierra 1500. However, you will also need the Custom Wedge for Select Series Fifth Wheels part # SWW-03 unless the Lippert Turning Point Pin Box already has one then you can use that. This is a metal block attached to the underside of the pin box to stop it from turning inside the jaws of the 5th wheel hitch. For an install kit, I recommend...

  • 5th Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 5-1/2-foot Bed with Rambox Feature
No 5th wheel hitch manufacturers recommend their hitches for use in a Ram Box-equipped truck. The issue is the decreased bed width on models that have the Ram Box feature. Customers have told us that they have installed a 5th wheel hitch on models with Ram Boxes but it is not a practice recommended by hitch manufacturers nor etrailer. The hitches that will fit your truck are shown on the linked page. The Reese # RP30047 and install kit # RP30035-386 are a solid set-up with a 16K rating....

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel And Sidewinder King Pin For Ford F-150
Since you have a short bed, the Reese wheel hitch # RP30047 you linked to will require use of a Sidewinder like # RP61422 to prevent the nose of your trailer from coming into contact with the cab of your 2017 Ford F-150 and Wedge Kit # SWW-03 to prevent the king pin from pivoting in the jaws of your hitch. • Recommended Reese 5th Wheel Hitch and Sidewinder for Flare Side or Step Side Trucks
The Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider # RP30051 is not a fit for flare sides because the width of the bed is not compatible. It is compatible with the hitch itself, but the concern is with the pin box making contact with your side rails. I reached out to my contact at tech support and he said using a Sidewinder is the only option to avoid pin box and side rail contact whether you have a short bed or full length bed. So in this case, I recommend using the fixed hitch...

  • 5th Wheel Hitch Recommend for 2010 Chevy Silverado 5-1/2' Bed Towing Trailer w Reese Revolution
Yes, the Reese Revolution pin box of the trailer you mentioned is designed to allow trucks with beds as short as your 5-1/2 foot bed the needed turning clearance. You'd need a rail kit and a fixed hitch and you'd be set. For a custom fifth wheel rail kit confirmed as a fit for your 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 5-1/2 foot bed the Reese kit part # RP50064-58 is confirmed as a fit and will work well. Then for a fixed hitch the Reese 16k hitch part # RP30047 would work great. For a wedge for...

We have exactly what you are needing to give you additional clearance for your short bed truck! This specific Sidewinder is a direct upgrade for your Leland 7910 and is rated for 16,000 lbs. • Which Hitch is Better for Use with a Sidewinder a Reese Select Series 16K or Curt E16
It is not really a fair comparison between Reese hitch # RP30047 and Curt hitch # C16115. The Reese hitch is absolutely better. That hitch in particular has been around a long time. If chucking is a concern you definitely want to avoid hitches that have a slide bar jaw like the Curt E16. They allow for too much play between the king pin and the jaw. The Reese hitch has the more secure dual jaw design so you would experience less chucking with it. I have linked a video review of this hitch...

  • How to Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer with 2019 Ram 1500 with Air Suspension and Ram Boxes
Fifth wheel towing is possible with a truck like your 2019 Ram 1500 that has a Ram Box but it is a bit more challenging due to the Ram Box. Reason being the boxes are very wide and take up valuable space a pin box would need to pivot. So the solution is a Sidewinder pin box installed on the trailer as this moves the pivot point up higher above the bed rails. You will need to remove the pin box of the trailer and replace it with a Sidewinder pin box. Sidewinders are pin box specific so...

The Reese Revolution is exactly what you need to haul a fifth wheel when using a truck with a 5-1/2 foot bed like your 2020 Ford F-150. So what you want is fixed hitch like the # RP30047 and a custom rail kit for your truck like the Reese part # RP50087-58 and you'll be in very good shape with the Reese Revolution. • How Much Clearance is Normally Needed Between Truck Bed and Trailer Pin Box
Based on the numbers you mentioned there isn't going to be a safe way to tow the trailer as it's going to be way too low. You'd have bed rail issues and a trailer with the nose way too high. I'd double check the measurement you mentioned. Make sure the trailer is totally level and on level ground. For reference you want to have at least 6 inches between the overhang of the trailer and the top of the truck's bed rails when the trailer is level. Most hitches are around 16 inches tall from...

Fifth wheel trailer hitch installation kit # RP30035-309 will fit all bed lengths of the 2007 Toyota Tundra. I recommend a step up using # RP30047. This is a 16K hitch with a double jaw instead of a slide bar. You will have better contact with the king pin for less movement and noise. • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for Reese Revolution Compatibility
I reached out to my contact at Reese and confirmed that the Reese Revolution vhd-10K-22sw is a factory fit that is not offered in a replaceable option. Basically because of the smaller width and mounting style there is not a replacement with an aftermarket pin box. That unfortunately means there is not an air ride option for your trailer.
