Leland 7921 Compatibility with Sliding Hitch in 2013 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 5 Foot 8 Inch Bed

Question:

Hello, I have a 2013 Chev Silverado with a 5 8 box, my 5th wheel has a Leland #7921 pin box extension, would that be enough clearance? I also have a pullrite 7900 super gluide. My question is can the 2 be used together, or will the Leland be enough or will the pullrite be enough. I was told that the pin box would work, but I would like your input to be sure. Thanks

With your 2013 Chevy Silverado, the 5 foot 8 inch short bed truck won't be enough even with your pin box and super glide. If you had the 6-1/2 foot bed you'd be just fine but that 5 foot 8 inch bed requires a solid hitch and a Sidewinder because there simply isn't enough travel with the slider to give you the needed clearance.

I recommend the Sidewinder Fifth Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret by 5th Airborne, 16K # ST400-5AS16K to replace your Leland 7921 pin box. This will use a wedge to prevent movement at the hitch and move the pivot point of your trailer back 22 inches to allow the clearance needed.

If you don't already have the 5th wheel base rails in your truck, I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP50064-58 and the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30047. If you use this hitch then I also recommend the custom wedge # SWW-03. I recommend the solid hitch because the Sidewinder cannot be used with the Autoslider hitches.

Your other option if you want an autosliding hitch with your current pin box is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide -13,000 lbs # DM8550040 which will function similar to your Pull Rite but this hitch has a travel distance of 22-1/2 inches and is only available in that 13K capacity with that long a travel distance.

I've attached some videos and articles to help further.
