Recommended Reese 5th Wheel Hitch and Sidewinder for Flare Side or Step Side Trucks
Question:
Was considering this hitch for my Ford F350, but saw the disclaimer about it not fitting a truck with flare sides. Why cant it be installed on this type of truck? Thanks!

The Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider # RP30051 is not a fit for flare sides because the width of the bed is not compatible. It is compatible with the hitch itself, but the concern is with the pin box making contact with your side rails. I reached out to my contact at tech support and he said using a Sidewinder is the only option to avoid pin box and side rail contact whether you have a short bed or full length bed.
So in this case, I recommend using the fixed hitch # RP30047 and custom wedge for Sidewinder pin box # SWW-03.
I've linked the page to your Sidewinder options to provide you with the turning clearance needed. These are pin box specific, so you will need to check your trailer's pin box number for proper fit. I've also attached some articles to assist with that fit even if measuring is required for fit.
