Smooth Hookup with Stainless Steel Arms

Roadmaster Sterling towbar stainless steel arms

The Sterling is designed to make hooking up your toad a smooth and easy process. The telescoping arms are able to extend to the needed length and angle to reach the base plate without the need for your vehicle to be perfectly level or in the exact right spot behind your RV. The inner arms are stainless steel and will slide in and out smoothly. Supremely corrosion resistant, they'll stay rust-free and functional for the life of the tow bar.

Slide the tow bar into your hitch and pin it in place. Get the arms connected to the base plate one at a time. Once you're all hooked up, slowly pull forward and the self-aligning arms will fully extend and lock into the towing position. Double check that the arms are properly latched and you'll be ready to hit the road!

Extra-Long Arms Get You Around Tight Turns

The Sterling's arms are longer than average, giving you an above-average turning radius. You're going to be able to get around obstacles and make sharp turns with no worry of clipping the corner of your RV. Maneuver through gas stations and the campsite no problem.

Non-Binding for Easy Disconnect

Uneven ground and sharp angles can put the arms of the tow bar in a bind and make them stiff and immoveable. Once you get to your destination, the last thing you need is to spend several minutes wrestling, yanking, and kicking at them to get your car disconnected.

non binding tow bar

Instead, get out of a bind in one easy step. Simply pull up the lever on the arm of the Sterling to disengage the internal latch. This releases the pent-up pressure so you can unhook and get on with your adventure.

Built-In Cable Guides

Road Master Sterling Tow Bar Cable Guides

The Sterling comes with cable guides built into the arms, keeping your setup streamlined and organized. The power cord will come pre-installed in the cable guide, protecting it from getting damaged or tangled. It's also a great way to keep all your gear together. You won't need to find a separate place to store your power cord; you can keep it right there where you need it, ready for the next time you flat tow.

You can thread the safety cables through the guides as well, which will likewise protect them from damage and make them easy to store.

Engineered for Excellence

FEA test

The Sterling is engineered to be as tough and durable as possible. Throughout the design process, rigorous physical and computerized testing is done, including Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA). Each of these tests displays a 3-dimensional image of the tow bar while it is put under thousands of pounds of pressure. Areas of stress in the tow bar can then be located and studied so that those areas can be strengthened. This process is repeated until any weak spots, particularly those found in load-bearing components, are completely removed. The result is a product that is durable, strong, and safe.

Simple Storage: RV-Mounted Tow Bar

Stored

The Sterling folds up to conveniently store on the back of your RV when you're not using it. After disconnecting the tow bar from your toad, push the arms of the tow bar together so that they are side by side. Push the tow bar up until the holding latch clicks into place. The arms can then swing to the right or to the left, whichever side you want to store it on.

For added protection from the elements, slip the Roadmaster tow bar cover (RM-055-3 - sold separately) over the tow bar when you're not using it.

What You Need to Flat Tow

Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.

To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

For the RV Between the RV and Towed Car For the Towed Car
Hitch Tow bar Base plate
Wiring plug Safety cables Braking system
Wiring adapter cord Wiring kit/diodes

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

First, received the package and upon opening, found that the linch pins were missing. One phone call and issue was resolved and replacement items were being expedited to me. Appears the box came open on one end during shipment and parts came out before carrier retaped the tear. Good on E-Trailer for outstanding and prompt customer service! Now, the Sterling All Terrain towbar - very impressive unit as I had bought this on reputation only as no dealers had any in stock (they say it is too costly to carry in store). Very well made, excellent finish and welds. Instructions are quite clear and easy to follow. I like that when you purchase this unit, it is a “total package”. There is nothing I could see that is cheaply made - all quality. This was my first purchase from E-trailer, and based on how this order went start to finish, and having to deal with missing parts on an order - I am very pleased and will deal with them in the future.

I could not be happier with the performance of this tow bar! Our last trip was 3 months and 4000 miles and the unit performed flawlessly. I would not hesitate to recommend or purchase this Roadmaster Sterling tow bar to anyone.

Great product. Everything works well....it's solid, durable and well built. The only complaint I have is the two plated bolts that hold on the tow vehicle knuckles are rusting and look terrible. I'm going to have to paint them I guess.

Thank you for sending the picture that I asked for. It is surprising that they have rusted quickly. Since they are not made of a stainless steel or aluminum they will typically eventually rust. As you stated in your review it will be best to clean them up and then use a rust resistant clear product on the bolts. They are also available for replacement as part # RM-910029.

by:

Unfortunately first set was defective from Roadmaster. Etrailer sent another set and return label which installed correctly, eTrailer was great to work with.

This unit met my needs replacing a much older blue ox tow bar

by:

I received the Sterling tow bar on time and great condition. It took less than 1hour to install and went great. We can’t wait to hook up and start our exploring retirement. The ease of removal, attachment, and security will make our travels so much easier. Thanks again for your help and a great product!

The parts worked well with my application. 2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (TJ)

by:

I towed my JKU about 4,000 miles behind my class C with no issues. The ease of use is amazing!

by:

Arrived quickly and well packaged. Took less than an hour to install on the RV with the included safety cables and wiring.I haven't pulled our Bronco with it yet but the tow bar appears to be well built and a quality product.

by:

This is my second Roadmaster Tow Bar. I purchased the first one in 2010. It gave us 10 years of great service. However it was ready for a tune up and I just didn’t have the time to do it. This purchase is very similar to the previous one. It has everything needed to get you on the road. It included safety cables with an improved method of connecting it to my toad. It also has a heavy duty electrical cable. I did have one issue. The box was damaged and I was missing one bolt. It wasn’t a big issue, I was able to get another one at the local hardware store. The tow bar is very well constructed and has a great appearance. I’ll be hooking between my Jeep Rubicon Unlimited and my Tiffin Motorhome. Can’t wait to try it out.

Love it. Highly recommend

by:

A very well engineered tow bar. Always an easy disconnect. I’m towing a 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor and this tow bar has the tow rating I need. I did need to order longer D ring bumper mounts for my vehicle bumper mount situation. Very satisfied.

by:

Best tow bar ever! quick connect and disconnect; no effort to disconnect even when surface is no level; works excellent

by:

Excellent service from etrailer.com. Their web site is all about helping with the purchase and the installation. The follow up after the sale is a nice touch as well.

The All Terrain non-binding Freedom Latch is an important improvement in the RoadMaster Sterling model. I had an older model and almost always had to fight with the release when trying to unhook the towed car.

I also had an older model and almost always had to fight with the release when trying to unhook the towed car.The All Terrain non-binding Freedom Latch has solved that problem very well. It is an outstanding improvement in the RoadMaster Sterling model. I have been satisfied with the purchase.

One year ago I purchased the equipment to tow my Jeep Grand Cherokee 4 flat behind my motorhome from etrailer. I received the items within 4 days, and was able to do the install myself thanks to the fantastic instructional videos provided by etrailer.
I have towed it from Iowa to Colorado, and several shorter trips. It is easy to
hook up/unhook and tows fantastic. I went with the Roadmaster Sterling tow bar as well as the roadmaster crossbar with removable arms. I would HIGHLY recommend this setup! I also put the roadmaster diode wiring set in the Jeep to use the tail lights. Works flawless! I have used etrailer for several items and have always been completely satisfied. Preston was super helpful in helping me choose the best equipment for my application! Can't go wrong with etrailer!

by:

The tow bar is excellent quality and simple to install. Connecting and disconnecting are a breeze. I had the old style tracker tow bar, but had to upgrade for a heavier vehicle. It fits well on a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Excellent product. Super Heavy Duty

by:

My second Roadmaster tow bar. Wouldn’t use anything else. Quick connect for the towed vehicle is easy to remove and maintains the original look of towed vehicle. Others can’t tell you tow it by looking at the front

by:

The ordering process was easy and convenient. The free shipping was awesome, and the product was delivered in less than a week. I am sure the product is great but am in the process of installing the base plates and tow bar. The Invisibrake and wiring will come later. Great job Etrailer!

by:

I installed the Roadmaster tow bracket on our 2017 Ford Cmax Energi and am very pleased with the results. The instructions were good, but the video provided by etrailer was outstanding and made the install much easier. Coupled with the excellent Sterling tow bar, it made a challenging install a reasonable proposal. It took me (I am 66 years old) about 5 hours total (not including wiring) to do the physical installation. Way to go etrailer!

I have now towed my car about 8,000 miles and it still works great. Very happy with Roadmaster and etrailer!

by:

The new Sterling All-terrain towbar is much better than the one that it replaced. Hooking up and disconnecting is much easier, especially on uneven ground. Working with the team at e-trailer was a great experience, with prompt responses to my emails. All promised delivery dates were met and I appreciated the free shipping offer that applied to my order. I'm totally sold on e-trailer's personnel, philosophy, and operation.

Still totally satisfied with the product.

by:

Bill at Etrailer was good to work with to make sure I had the necessary parts needed for my tow package. Shipment was promt and all parts as per order. Their on line installation videos are a plus to the printed instruction that comes with the parts. I was able to set the computer by the car and pause and start the instruction as needed. Great help.

Great 10000 mile towing trip

by:

INCREDIBLE. What is wrong with this company? One item in my order was on back order with the manufacturer so they called me and asked if I wanted the other items of my shipment to be shipped and the manufacturer would ship directly to me when it was available. I called them back with a concern after a couple of days and Craig communicated with me via email and actually took time to call me to inform the manufacturer actually had my item in stock and it was already shipped. If more companies would learn from etrailer on how to provide customer service, this world be a much better place. THANK YOU

by:

This tow bar replaces a older model Sterling that I could no longer get parts for.
Wow, the new bar is much stronger and heavy duty than the old one. This bar will be towing my crv all over the place now that i'm retired. As always working with etrailer was a pleasure. The fast service and shipping make me return when ever I need a product they sell.

So far I have only towed my Ram 1500 a few miles, but seemed to tow easily.

by:

Recently I ordered a Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar (RM-576) and a Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit (RM-521453-4). The included Roadmaster installation instructions were very good and easy to follow. A few minor questions came up during the installation, but eTrailer's excellent installation video by Shane cleared up any confusion. Overall the installation of both the base plates and the tow bar was pretty simple and straight forward. The tow bar is easy to use and works great. I think eTrailer's product and installation videos are a great help in picking the right item and installing it.

by:

The Roadmaster Sterling tow bar works great so far. Easy to attach to my toad and is non-binding. I did not use the crossbar that came with the tow bar due to purchasing the Blue Ox base plate for my vehicle. I did, however, purchase Blue Ox adapter brackets which were needed. Everything was packaged and shipped in good condition, and the equipment came in as expected.

by:

I purchased the Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar along with the EZ5 base plate kit and wiring kit for my 2015 Jeep Wrangler. Everything was easy to install and work great. The people in customer service at etrailer.com were very knowledgeable about the products they sell and extremely helpful. Very pleased with everything. thanks etrailer!

  • How to Flat Tow a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Behind a Motor Home
The trimming and drilling is minor for base plate installation on your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. I've linked the installation instructions for Roadmaster base plates # RM-521440-5 so you can see what is involved in the installation. In addition to the base plates you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For a tow bar I recommend the Sterling All Terrain, # RM-576, rated for 8,000 pounds. It also includes safety cables. For lighting,...
