Video Transcript for Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar Inner Arm Replacement Installation

Today we're going to take a look at the Roadmaster Inner Arm Assembly for the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Toolbar, part number RM910660-10. This is what our kit's going to consist of for the arm. We're going to have the new arm with some nylon bushings and a cushion that's going to go inside. It's going to help cushion the ride as it locks up. It's also going to come with a new nylon lock nut to replace this nylon here, as you're not supposed to reuse the old nut. Our customer backed up less than three feet. Backing up and it sheered off our shank and bent the arm.

It's very important that you do not back up when your tow bar is in position on your vehicle. We're going to go ahead and take a quarter inch Allen wrench and our nine sixteenths wrench. We're going to go ahead and remove this through bolt. There's a washer on the outside, a flat washer but on the inside here, there's going to be two small fiber washers that take up the slack. We're going to make sure we reinstall all those washers when we're done. Our tow bar is inaudible 00:01:14 on the inside from the factory to stop the arm from sliding out.

We're going to take a little grinder and grind out that little edge. That will take out the edge. Then we'll be able to take this arm, we're going to slide it back. If the arm is bent, you're going to have to cut off where the bent part is with cut off inaudible 00:01:38 or a hacksaw and then drive out the pin. In this case, it's not bent bad enough for when you do that so we can just tap it out.

We can take a punch and drive it the rest of the way out. Slide out our shaft from side to side. When removed our old shaft, these two fiber washers and this rubber cushion did not come out. We took a long extension and just pushed them out from the back. You want to make sure you remove all three of those old parts otherwise your new arm is not going to slide into its proper location. We'll take our new shaft, you might have to tap it a little bit to get it to go in. Then we're going to release the lever.

Once we get in there, we're going to take it and slide all the way out until it locks. We can rotate it down. Take our bracket, we're going to install one of the fiber washers and we'll slip it into position. We'll put the other one in the middle here. Going to wiggle it to get it in position. Once you get it all lined up, we'll replace our flat washer and our new nylon lack nut. We can snug this back down. There's not going to be any special numerical torque on this. We're just going to tighten it down. You want it to have a little bit of play but not an excessive amount. You don't want it too tight where it won't allow it to pivot back and forth. That's going to do it for our look at the Roadmaster Replacement Inner Arm Assembly for the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar, part number RM910660-10.

I installed the part and it fits perfectly. I am very satisfied with the product although Roadmaster has replaced the 3 bushing with one that is supposedly more reliable in the new versions.

Still working smoothly.

I ordered this to replace the one that was bent when we backed up. I had told etrailer that it was urgent as we were going on vacation and they sent it out priority mail which I paid for. When I received this some of the parts were missing. I called etrailer and they had Roadmaster ship out the missing parts. The parts were not sent out urgent even though I explained we had vacation plans and a deposit. When the parts were received they were again the wrong parts. I immediately called etrailer and this time when they sent out the parts left out they were correct. The people at etrailer were extremely nice but we had to cancel our vacation and lost our deposit. At no time did there seem any urgency to get the correct parts sent overnight that were left out sent out . I am extremely disappointed with the entire process and have bought from etrailer in the past but not sure I will going forward.

  • Replacement Bushings For Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar
The Inner Arm Bushing Kit for Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bars # RM-910003-40 replaces the inner arm bushings on your Roadmaster Sterling tow bar. It works on models with a serial number lower than 27671. Please reach back out to me with what your serial number is and I can find the correct bushing kit. We will not have the replacement bushings for the tow bars over 27,670 so you will have to replace the whole arm with The Replacement Inner Arm Assembly # RM910660-10. I attached a review...

  • Solution for Roadmaster All Terrain Tow Bar with Stuck Inner Arm
Usually if a tow bar inner arm gets stuck it's because it is bent. Sometimes it is due to dirt/corrosion build up which you can clean the inner arm with Roadmaster Voom part # RM-9911 like what you see in the attached rebuild video. If you remove the inner arm and roll it on the ground you should be able to tell if it's bent or not. For a replacement the bar you would need is the part # 910021-65 if it's a Blackhawk 2 or Falcon All Terrain or part # RM910660-10 if it's a Nighthawk All Terrain,

  • Replacement Shaft Recommendation for a Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar
To replace one of the arms of your Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar part # RM-576 you will first need to check the serial number on the tow bar. If the number is lower than 27824 you have the older style Sterling and would need the Replacement Inner Arm Assembly part # RM910660. If you have a serial number higher than 27824 you would want the part # RM910660-10 instead. If you need the Replacement Roadmaster Sterling Towbar Shank Assembly, you will want part # 910019-40.

  • Troubleshooting a Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar that the Arms Quit Locking
It sounds like your Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar part # RM-576 needs to be taken apart and cleaned thoroughly. I spoke to my contact at Roadmaster and he said that most likely there is a pretty large accumulation of carbon, dirt and other road grime in the arms of your tow bar and that is preventing the locking mechanism from working consistently.

  • Difference Between the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain RM-576 and Sterling RM-555 Tow Bar
The Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar part # RM-576 is just simply the newer, updated model of the discontinued Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar part RM-555. It sounds like you might be looking for replacement parts for one or the other so if that is the case, I would need the serial number off of your tow bar in order to confirm. I have however attached for you below a list of replacement parts but I would need your serial number in order to confirm these. Repair kit # RM-910003-30 Replacement...

  • Arms on Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar Do Not Push In and Out Easily
There may be some dirt and debris interfering with the normal function of the tow bar. I would start by lubricating the arms, however lubricants like WD40 should not be used. Instead use a silicone-base lubricant like part # L11354. You may also need the Sterling repair kit # RM-910003-30. The kit includes the following parts to make repairs to the tow bar: (4) rubber caps (2) locking springs (2) retaining rings (2) shoulder bolts (2) Nylock nuts (14) 1-1/2" diameter...
