Video Transcript for MaxxTow Hitch Receiver Lock Review

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Lock for two inch hitches as well as those inch and a quarter hitches. So today's hitch mount accessories really have came a long way as far as the quality construction goes. And there's some really nice products out there whether it be a ball mount like this, a bike rack, cargo carrier, or whatever the case may be. You wanna keep your investment protected and with a traditional style pin and clip like this that's really not gonna do the job. This isn't stopping anyone from taking your accessory very quick.

All they're gonna have to do is come up here, pull it out and they can take off with it. So to help deter that and prevent that from happening, you can use a lock just like this one. And no one's gonna be able to just pull a pan and run off. You're actually gonna need the key to get it on done. So this will just help you sleep a little bit better at night knowing that whatever you have in your hitch is secure.

So the way the lock is gonna work is super simple. We're just going to take our key, rotate about a quarter turn, it will come right off it, take your pen there, run it through and take your locking mechanism, pop that right on. It's not coming off and that'll prevent someone from just pulling your accessory right out. And honestly, there's.. I really don't see any way someone could remove this.

I'm sure if someone spent enough time on it, they could eventually get it out but it does sit nice and flush to your hitch here. And so there's not a whole lot of room so it'd be really difficult to get, say a pair of bolt cutters in there, something like that to quickly cut this off and take your accessory. Not to mention this is made from carbon steel. It's super tough. I mean, that is super hard metal.

So it's really difficult to cut through. So even in that little sliver there if someone did wanna come up with a Hacksaw or something like that, they would really have a hard time. And let's be honest if someone's up to no good they're not trying to come out here, make a lot of noise cutting and grinding and everything else. They're gonna maybe mess with this, realize it can't get it off and just move on. And so that's good. It's gonna offer us a lot of security and really help keep things to the back of our vehicle without having to worry about anything happening to them. So one thing that separates the setup from some of the other ones is the fact that you can use it with that's two inch hitches as well as the inch and a quarter hitches. So two inch hitches, the pin hole will be 5/8 diameter and that's this size right here. But if you we're to wanna use it on a inch and a quarter what you could do is remove this little O ring, pop that sleeve off, put the O ring back on and now this is a half inch in size. So this'll go through those smaller inch and a quarter hitches. Lock, go on there and it'll give you all those same benefits as the two inch size one would. So really convenient especially for those of you that might have two different vehicles, two different size hitches. You do a little bit of everything with both of them. You can get one of these set-ups here and alternate between the two. So pretty convenient, nice little feature. One thing I do like about it is the locking mechanism itself. There's a couple different designs. I'll say this one's probably one of my more favorite ones. And that's because you take your key and you only have to rotate it about a quarter of a turn to disengage it. So really convenient. Whenever you're ready to put the lock back on, you can do it one of two ways. You can either hold it in place like this, turn it again, and that'll lock it. What I prefer to do though, because sometimes it can be tricky to hold everything steady when you're putting it on your hitch. What I like to do is just take the locking mechanism turn the key to lock it and then that just clips on. So whichever you prefer, you got a couple options there. I do think the locking mechanism has an advantage. Not only because of the quarter turn some of the other ones it's a key that you put in there and you just have to constantly rotate it to thread the lock off. So that's why I liked this set-up over those. But because of these types of keys I feel like the locking mechanism would be less prone to getting messed up. It's a shallow key slot so if dirt and debris does get in there, some moisture, I feel like this type of key would just punch through that and still work as opposed to your traditional type key with that deep slot. I'm sure everyone's experienced that where the key don't wanna go in that great and you're worried if you're gonna break it and so on. I just don't think that's the case with these. To go a step further, it does have actually pretty nice cap here. It's nice and thick and fits snug over the lock. So that's pretty nice. One thing I did notice and I'm not super crazy about is this O ring here. So whenever you take this sleeve off if you want to, if you try to pull it off without taking the ring off first it can just come off and I feel like you may lose it that way. Even just having to take it off separately, pull the sleeve off and put it back on, I feel like that could just get misplaced. Not really sure if there's a better way to do it but something I just thought was worth mentioning. So when we put this all back together though, what that O ring does. The purpose of it is to seal the backside of that locking mechanism and it does a great job at that. It sits up nice and tight and everything else. So because of how sealed this is and the design of the locking mechanism itself I feel like this should last for a very long time. And for those of you that are wondering the inside span here. So from this edge to this edge is two and three quarters of an inch. So a really common size, this will work with most hitches. So really nothing too crazy to worry about there. One thing our customers do mention and I tend to agree with is I really liked the color, they liked the black finish. It's an eco finish. So it'll really take scratches and chips well. And I don't see this really getting rusted out over time, too quick at least. Not to mention I think it has more of a modern appearance and just blends in a little bit better. They are gonna give you two keys. So you got an extra and you throw one on your key ring and maybe one on the club box or something like that. And at the end of the day just a great way to help keep those accessories secure especially for those of you that have multiple vehicles at different size hitches and different types of accessories. This one pen will cover all those bases. And that'll finish up our look at the MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Lock for two inch hitches as well as inch and a quarter hitches..
