Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

Very disappointed, The tire was received with no air pressure and the tire bead was not seated to the tire rim on one side. When I tried to fill the tire with air from my air compressor, the value stem broke off.
I called etrailer and they referred me to the Kenda warranty department. Called Kenda and left a message (no one answered) and also sent an email with pic's.
I needed this for my snowmobile trailer, and the season is running short.
Not sure if I will order another tire from etrailer again. I have had good experience with other items I have ordered from etrailer. Was hopping etrailer would just send me another tire right away. Now I have to deal with Kendra.

The reason we dont just send one right off the bat is because Kenda has requested we go through them with any warranty claims, first. But, I reached out on your behalf, and they are going to be reaching out to you about making a claim. Thanks for letting us know about this! We definitely didnt want you to be left hanging!

Bought 2 for snowmobile trailer. One is completely flat and off the bead every time I look at trailer. Using dunk tank found 2 holes in center of tread. Very low miles, maybe 40, with one mile of gravel. Only thought is gravel poked holes in soft rubber. Needless to say I do not really trust the tires and am afraid to go to fast or far with them. etrailer told me to contact tire manufacturer.

by:

We purchased these to upgrade the wheels and tires on our PWC Trailer to put a little more surface rubber on the road prior to a move from GA to FL (approximately 500 miles). They performed flawlessly for the long drive to FL and since living here nearly a year we have traveled all over the state pulling our skis and launching in fresh and saltwater and these tires and wheels are still perfect!

by:

Trailer tires were received quickly, however they were almost 2 years old. 1 Year and 9 months to be exact. I bought these tires to replace tires that failed less than 5 years from date of manufacture with less than 2,000 miles on them. Remember, trailer tires usually need replacement due to age, not mileage. 4-6 years is a good rule of thumb to avoid being stranded on the side of the road. Discouraging to pay for "New" tires that have had the shelf life clock ticking for almost 2 years.

Great fit for the trailer

Pulled my pontoon from GA to MA no problems great tire..

by:

The galvanized rim is the best.

by:

Excellent looking tread pattern. I did not expect a Hi pressure Valve Stem, which is a plus.

by:

My hobby is buying older boats, refurbishing, and selling them. This is the 3rd set of trailer tires I've purchased from trailer. They always have what I need, always a great price, always receive them in less than a week, and always excellent quality. I don't even look anyplace else anymore. They do it the way it should be done.

by:

Tire looks excellent. Wheel galvanizing seems a bit crude, but time will tell.

Tire and wheel have held up well.

by:

solid tires at a fair price!

by:

Very good quality. Round trip made exceeding 2000 miles at speeds of up to 80 mph and the tires handled it well. Load on trailer was around 800 lbs.

by:

Refurbishing a jet ski trailer into a fishing kayak trailer and all the parts ordered from etrailer have worked great and the website made it easy to find what I needed.

by:

Shopping the web site made finding the right combination of tire and rim very easy! Received my order quickly and as advertised!!

by:

Just what I ordered, seems like a good tire/wheel combo. I priced them locally and it was 428 for a pair, picked them up here for 258 with galvanized rims vs painted and a 5 yr warranty vs 1 yr.

by:

Good looking tires. My trailer sits outside and the old rims rusted. There galvanized rims look good after a year.

by:

Good price for galvanized wheel, 10 ply trailer tire combo. I received it in 3 days and free shipping too!

by:

Purchased 4 of this product for a boat trailer. Quality and price are outstanding.

by:

Was fast shipment from their location to my address and the packaging was great. The fastest I have ever experienced.

by:

arrived quickly and they look awesome. have not installed them yet due to rebuild of trailer. would purchase again.

by:

Great looking tire and wheel …. Great for a spare on a long jet ski trailer trip

by:

exactly what i needed and excellent ser vice!

by:

Exact replacement for my leaky snowmobile trailer tire/wheel. Well packaged.

by:

Ordered new tires and wheels for our boat trailer, ordered them on Tuesday, arrived Thursday afternoon! Exactly what I needed too, The smaller wheels makes launching and recovering the boat much easier without having to get the truck into the water, but still have the ability to tow the boat to different locations. ??

by:

Best price , great load range and speedy delivery

  • Recommended Tire Upgrade To Increase 70 MPH Speed Rating Of Malone XtraLight LowMax Trailer
I have another option for you, but we do not offer 10" diameter tires that will work on the 8" wide wheels found on your Malone XtraLight LowMax Trailer. Instead using two of the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel # AM3H490 which has the same 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern but a speed rating of 87 MPH would be your best option. The # AM3H490 has a 5-Year warranty on the tire, and a 2-Year limited warranty on the wheel. I included videos for both of the products mentioned...

  • Replacement ST145R12 Tire and Wheel for Acme Tow Dolly
Any trailer or tow dolly tire should always be inflated to the maximum psi pressure shown on the tire sidewall. It is never appropriate to under- or over-inflate a trailer/dolly tire since only when fully inflated can the tire deliver its rated weight capacity. Naturally it is also important that the vehicle loaded on the dolly be within the dolly's rated capacity. Acme offers several different dolly products and these are specified to use Load Range E tires in size ST145R12. Their wheels...

  • WillI I Notice a Difference if I Replace 145/80-12 Sized Tires with 205/65-10 Sized Tires
You likely aren't going to notice any difference at all. A 145/R12 tire, like part # AM10140, is around 21.3 inches in diameter and a 20.5x8-10, or a 205/65-10 to use the current sizing, around 20.5 inches. So your current tires are less than an inch taller which isn't going to make enough of an impact on your wind resistance. With that being said, if you do replace your current tires with the smaller size, like our part # AM3H490, you will have a wider tire by about 2.5 inches or so....

The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel # AM3H480 can be used on a boat trailer. A better option for a boat trailer might be a wheel that has a galvanized finish like the part # AM3H490 since it will hold up better to corrosion since the boat trailer will get backed into water.

  • Does Metal Valve Stem Need to be Installed if Trailer Tire Has 90 PSI Rating
The only time that a metal valve stem like part # AM20906 is required is when the psi rating meets or exceeds 100 psi. If you plan on using the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel # AM3H490 then you don't have to change out to a metal valve stem as this comes with the valve stem # AM20907 which is rated for up to 100 psi. With that being said, it never hurts anything to install a valve stem that has a higher psi rating so if metal valve stems will give you some...

  • Would the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel Fit a Pontoon Boat Trailer
Most likely yes, but you will need to measure the distance between the wheel studs on your trailer. If that distance is 2-5/8 inches you have the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern that the # AM3H490 is designed to fit. The tire size you have of 20.5x8-10 is the same size as the 205/65-10 that this wheel comes with also.

  • Replacement Wheel and Tire Recommendation for Trailer with 205/65-10 Rims
We can definitely help you get new wheels and tires on your snowmobile trailer. We have the size tire you need but we have to first determine what bolt pattern rim you have. If you count 4 bolts that hold the wheel to the trailer you would want the part # AM3H340 which is galvanized to fight corrosion. Or if you count 5 bolts you would need the part # AM3H490 which is also galvanized.

If you're needing something with a higher speed rating then we have the Kenda # AM1HP56 instead which is the same size but with a load range E (1,650 lbs at 90 psi) and a max speed rating of 87 mph. • Recommended Tire for a 20-Foot Pontoon Boat Trailer Traveling Down the Highway
Sorry to hear your tire heated up and came apart. Special trailer tires are typically rated to operate at a maximum speed of 65 mph and should always be inflated to their maximum air pressure stated on the tire. I would certainly go with a radial tire over bias because radials run cooler and flexes more giving it better contact with the road. I included a link to all the radial tires we currently offer and if you provide me your tire size I would be more than happy to make a recommendation. Take...

  • Do 205/65-10 Trailer Tires on Galvanized Rims Need to be Balanced
This is a debate that's been raging (well, maybe simmering) for years. In most cases, because trailers do not have steer or drive axles it's not as crucial to balance them as it is for passenger vehicles. In my opinion, it's not necessary for smaller, lighter trailers unless you notice some wheel wobble. Because they are dipped during the galvanization process, the thickness of the coating isn't always uniform so you might find it necessary to balance the tires if you notice any wobble....
