Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

I have received my tires and just want you to know how great it all worked out with your help.

I swapped out my OEM Kenda Hole-n-One 18x8.50-8 eleven year old tires on my 2012 Yamaha G29 Drive gas golf cart with your new Kenda 205/65-10 trailer tires. They fit up fine and also look so much better than the OEM Hole-n-Ones.

I do have extra-strong springs in the rear, for passengers, for what that's worth. Jumping on the back makes no rubbing. No rubs at max turns in the front.

I much appreciate your advice. These tires look great and with my low intensity use will last a really long time. Their added tallness will help me on my woods trails where I encounter lots of brush.

Your free shipping and sale prices made this project come in at about half- price of local suppliers. You folks provide a great service..

Here are a couple photos -

BTW, the OEM lug nuts on the fronts-only were beastly tight having never been off. And it seems a frequent problem. Finally I got them loose, with a creative solution but things like heat, lube, etc did not work. Large torque only turned the wheel as it sat on the ground. I devised a method never mentioned on-line and got these buggers off. A breaker-bar with 4-foot pipe on the nut to loosen; roll it to the highest elevation. Then attach a single-handle lug wrench to the lowest nut. When you pull on the 4-ft pipe the wheel will roll until the lower wrench is stopped by the ground. Finally a SNAP and the upper one comes loose as the lower one stays tight. Hope this makes sense. Even with a 4-ft cheater it takes a strong pull. I think it's just a safety-thing, for the manufacturers to tighten these so much.. FYI.

One year update - these tires are working out great. No problems No leaks. Glad I got them.

It was a very good purchase, the tires fit perfect, although I do not use the trailer regularly the wear seems good. I highly recommend these tires and wheels.

Replaced wheels and tires on my trailer. Perfect fit. Great quality and price.

I converted our pop up trailer to a utility trailer for haul wood and quads. The wheels and tires still look new after a full year and several thousand miles to Maine and back twice.

by:

Correct product was delivered on time and fit exactly as it should on our Coleman tent trailer. After mounting tires on trailer and adjusting air pressure in both tires we ordered (pressure was different in both tires) I traveled about 1,000 miles with no problems or having to further adjust pressures.
Wayne H. at etrailer.com was very helpful in having the tires delivered on time and was knowledgable of the products we were interested in. Thank you Wayne for your assistance with our purchase.

The 10 inch wheels I ordered and received for my golf cart was exactly what I wanted. The service and ship time was excellent. I will definitely use e-trailer again. I can’t say enough how satisfied I was.

Working great. I couldn’t be more happy.

Great wheel and tire !

by:

These tires fit perfect on my 1990's Bel-Aire tent trailer by USA Venturecraft meant for motorcycle towing, now I have a 12" clearance for 4 wheeling. The smaller tire is in the background.

by:

I want to personally thank Cassandra, she went the extra. Mile for me with her time and patience, and everyone else ,tires arrived, they are the exact ones I need thank you all so much….Bob

by:

I could not have been happier with service, pricing and free shipping. Excellent communication, they could not do enough to please. In fact, they were so nice they upgraded my free Ground Shipping to free Priority Express. WOW!
Ordered these wider tires because the small narrow ones that came with the trailer cut into my lawn when carrying anything but leaves. Perfect upgrade for the trailer and I could not have found better people to deal with. So thankful. Highly recommended.

Bought a pair for my old Jayco pop up, shipping was very fast. Just got back from a 400 mile round trip to Indiana, 65 mph in 90 degree weather and I'm very satisfied with them. Wouldn't hesitate to buy from etrailer again.

by:

Great choice for my 1983 palomino pinto pop up camper. Excellent fit and a smooth ride. Thank you very much with your help on selecting these. Great quality and price.

by:

Very good service (delivered on time) and very good product. My biggest fear is that you would send me old tires. You sent me October 2022 built tires; excellent. In a trailer application where it doesn't get used regularly (tires don't roll often to spread the oils in the rubber) and tires rot prematurely. Thank you.

by:

Order arrived on time. Great no hassle online order will purchase from etrailer again..

by:

Item arrived sooner than expected , have placed multiple orders now and no complaints . These have worked well on my trailer , needed a replacement for a tire that took on staples in multiple spots

by:

We purchased 3 tire/wheels and are completely happy with them. The white wheels look great on our Coleman Newport. Customer service is top notch, they even called to let me know the order would be shipping in 2 packages, they arrived on time and wete packaged well.

We are still very pleased with the wheels/tires, we have been camping several times and have no complaints or issues. Its ironic, I was just on your site last evening looking at hitches/wiring harness for a 2008 Chrysler Aspen, we are looking at a potential vehicle but it does not have a hitch. Etrailer was the first site I thought of to look for one. You guys have great products and the installation videos are VERY nice to see how difficult the different types of hitches will be to install.

Good quality and fast service

by:

I bought the tires for a home made trailer I build from a boat axle. Tires set the trailer off and look great. Trailer handles and tows nice with those wheels and tires. I will buy again. Mike P

I ordered a set of three (one spare) for my lightweight canoe trailer as an upgrade for the wimpy little original wheels and tires. These add almost 2" of extra ground clearance and better highway speeds, enabling me to tow it to remote lakes in the high country of Wyoming. I am very pleased with my purchase.

by:

Very impressed with the speed of delivery and the ease of the website to decide which tires/wheels to use and the whole purchase experience. The tires/wheels came in great shape, ride and pull wonderful. I will definitely be a returning customer, and highly recommend etrailer for all your trailer needs!

by:

They work as advertised. A very good product.

by:

Tires were exactly as specified, fit with no problem. Would buy again

by:

I'm glad I was able to find a great (& best) deal on these hard to find wheel/tire size. I towed my trailer for a total of 600 miles this weekend and had no issues with them. The tires even arrived with the correct tire PSI out of the box. I would gladly shop here again.

by:

Great tire and rim for my aluminum boat trailer. These folks really do a great job. First time buyer, but I'll be back. Never ordered tires off the internet either. You folks made it so simple to find what I needed, no problems with the website either. I really am surprised at how fast I received my order (on the day you said it would be here, it was.) I am very satisfied!

by:

I bought a set of these tires for my utility trailer. I very satisfied with the tires and have had great success with with all my etrailer’s purchases. Quick delivery and great customer service.

by:

Fast service and packaged professionally. Had tires/wheels for trailer dynamically balanced as always and one had to have a lot of wheel weights to true the tire wheel combo. A good thing to balance and make sure weights are on tight because of higher spin due to smaller tire diameter. Thanks etrailer..

  • Rim and Tire Recommendation to Replace a 20.5x8x10 Tire
For the 20.5x8x10, the new size is a 205/65-10 like what is on the tire and rim combo # AM3H430 that you referenced. If you are looking for a wheel and tire combo in this size and yours has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern hub this would work well for you. If you are unsure what your wheel bolt pattern is check out the FAQ article I attached. If all you need is a tire in that size you would want the part # AM1HP56. • Why is the Wheel on the Kenda 5.70-8 Wheel and Tire Combo Rated Lower than the Tire
On the Kenda 5.70-8 Tire and Wheel Combo, # AM30153, Kenda uses a load range D tire because the 8-ply load range D tires have a stronger construction than 6-ply load range C tire. Even though there is a higher rated tire on the wheel, the maximum weight capacity is still only 910 lbs. You will just get a stronger tire with this combination that will last longer than a load range C tire. Unfortunately, we do not carry an 8 inch wheel and tire combo with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern that has a...

  • Trailer Tires to Replace 20.5x8x10 Tires on a Pontoon Boat Trailer
The problem you are experiencing could be due to low tongue weight and not the tires. Boat trailers generally have lower tongue weight than other trailers. Making sure the trailer is towed level and with adequate tongue weight (10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight) could help a lot.
