Axle Dimensions

Hub Face and Spring Center Measurements on Standard Trailer Axle

There are multiple ways to measure the length of an axle beam, but the hub-face-to-hub-face and spring-center-to-spring-center lengths are the most accurate. Hub face (A) refers to the length of the axle measured from the base of one wheel stud to the base of the wheel stud on the opposite side of the axle (when hubs are mounted on the beam).

The spring center (B) is the approximate width of your trailer. It is measured from the center of the spring seat on one side of the axle to the center of the seat on the other. This axle beam comes with the spring seats welded on.

If you are replacing your trailer's axle, you should be able to figure out which type you need by determining your trailer's capacity, the bolt pattern of your wheels, the brake type and the aforementioned lengths.

E-Z Lube Spindles Make Lubrication Simple

The E-Z Lube spindles on this axle are meant to work with E-Z Lube-compatible hubs to make lubricating your bearings quick and easy. Each E-Z Lube spindle has a zerk fitting on the end. And every E-Z Lube hub comes with a grease cap that has an easy-to-remove rubber plug. Just pop out the plug on the cap to access the zerk on the spindle. When you inject grease into the zerk with a grease gun, the grease will flow to both the inner and outer bearings of the hub, lubricating the bearings and forcing out old, ineffective grease. Once you see new grease beginning to be pushed out, you know that your bearings are fully lubricated. This means that you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Dexters

Dexters are made of high-strength steel and come with spindles and spring seats welded on. The spring seats are attached to the underside of the axle so that the leaf springs (sold separately) can mount beneath the axle. The result of this underslung design is a trailer that rides a bit lower for quick and easy loading and unloading.

Each axle is manufactured to create a certain camber angle. This ensures that the angle of the wheels is correct for your towing needs. Because the primary concern when towing is maintaining controlled, in-line movement, each axle is made so that your trailer's tires will run along the pavement evenly, with contact across the width of the tread. The result is excellent straight-line acceleration for steady, in-line tracking. You might notice the bend near the center of the axle; this is what ensures the proper camber angle. Having the center ride a bit higher and the sides of the axle bent lower allows the axle to give just enough to compensate for the load.

etrailer had the best prices and excellent customer service, Thanks Ian! Shipping was fast and free to boot. I bent the front axle on my in-laws fifth wheel camper and this axle fit the bill. I had to order a set of spring seats and weld them to the opposite sides. The original seats were at 68.5 " centers and that configuration was unavailable anywhere.

by:

Wry nic product, only one suggestion is that you can tell what size bearings go on this axle.

by:

It has been a year. The axle has preformed flawlessly. 5-star because it exactly matched the existing axle for bearing seal part and brake assembly which were moved from the existing lippert 5200# axle to this one. This 6000# axle provides a bit of margin for weight over the existing.

Still working well. Double thumbs up.

1 axle was plastic wrapped and shipped without the rubber protective cover on 1 end. I had to dress the threads to be able to use the axle.

I called to confirm fitment and availability. I then place the order on line on Wednesday and the axle showed up Friday evening. You can not beet that! Local suppliers where about $75.00 more and I had to go pick it up an hour each way!

THANKS ETRILER FOR TAKING CARE MY ONLINE ORDER THE DEXTER TRAILER AXLE WAS PERFECT FOR MY NEW INSTALLATION I DONT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE EXTRA LOAD ON MY BOAT TRAILER

by:

I replaced the noodley Lippert axles that bent on my utility trailer. Much better. They also have the proper bend in them for the load compensation. I took the part number off the Lippert axle, and etrailer was able to cross reference the part numbers for perfect fit.

by:

You were great to the way you help me resolve my problems. The axle is the correct one I needed. Just one small thing I found that it was missing two mounting studs.

by:

Check your order! I specifically ordered Dexter axles and they sent me generic ones.

by:

I inherited an aluminum trailer that ended up needing a complete overhaul and etrailer was the best resource I could have found. After researching extensively to find out what I needed and watching their videos on how to do it I ended up ordering an EZ-lube axle, galvanized hubs, springs and a hanger kit (in other words everything from the frame down).
Everything shipped quickly and arrived in great shape. All the parts worked perfectly and I couldn't be happier!

by:

I'd like to thank odella and Kate for taking such good care of my order.
I first talked to Odella and had to break off the conversation for something else called back and Kate took my call and was able to fulfill the order and take all my information very nice dealing with the company that has their people in the United States and you're not talking to a computer!
Also was really shocked I received the order 2 days early really good work!

by:

Axle arrived in perfect condition, was also an exact fit for my Top Hat Trailer.
Your staff was of great help finding my right axle.
I would recommend etrailer to everyone.

by:

After a rust related axle failure, my equipment trailer was down. (If you roll in the rust belt, check your axles near where the brake wire goes through)
After checking my local source, I was told there was a long lead time for new axles due to the pandemic.
I was so happy to find etrailer. They had the exact axles I needed. After I pulled the axles I realized I also needed hardware and u-bolts.
Everything arrived ahead of schedule, allowing me to get back up and running quickly.
Thank you etrailer. You are a valuable resource.

Perfect fit, nice axle and fast delivery. I liked it so much I ordered another a day later to replace the front axle. My 30 yr old tandem trailer's axle broke at the wheel, so I went to a local store which doesn't stock them anymore. Could of ordered a so so axle for $94 + $28 shipping and wait 2 weeks but needed it fast. I went to a major trailer sales & service shop and told "maybe we could get one for $250" with no call back. I decided to check out etrailer and was surprised to see Dexter axles that fit my trailer for $140 with FREE shipping in 3-4 days! Ordered Sat. night, got it Wednesday afternoon, and installed it (with brakes) in an hour. Only problem I had was determining if spindles would fit my hubs. They stated "1/16th spindle" and must be industry talk but french to me. So I had to look up bearing #'s they listed to check bearing sizes to make sure they fit my hubs. A little more time but not a deal breaker. The best part was the huge difference in ride with just one new axle. Always had bouncing loaded or not, but now with just one axle the ride is smoother no load and with my 4000 lb tractor on it. Can't wait to get the 2nd axle on that arrived today. First two pics show the difference between the old straight axle and the new dexter axle. The third is a pic of my 2nd axle, oh well. Etrailer is my new go to place for trailer parts. I have 7 trailers.

by:

PLACED THE ORDER LATER THEN USUAL AND STILL RECEIVED THE AXLE THE NEXT DAY, GOT MY CUSTOMER UP AND GOING A DAY SOONER, WE ARE VERY PLEASED WITH E TRAILER AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. THANK YOU.

by:

Part was a great fit & delivery was on time and properly packaged.
Definitely recommend & I will use this company if future trailer parts are needed.

by:

Exactly like the original

by:

I was pressed for time to deliver a car and this axle was advertised to be delivered on Tuesday. Then, tracking changed delivery to Wednesday. Still, it was timely enough, barely. The axle looked perfect except, there weren’t any spring perches! The axle was ordered with perches. I spoke with a delightful young lady, if that is not woke I don’t care. She remedied the situation, HOPEFULLY.

by:

The axles were missing studs that fell out during shipping. Also, no nuts were included for mounting the brakes.

by:

Fit perfect. All parts from my old axle transferred without any problems. I welded the new saddles on the axle without any issues.

  • How to Mount 6K Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles Under Leaf Springs
To mount the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles # 8327826 underneath your leaf springs you can simply use the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00. This comes with a kind of adapter that allows you to do so. All of the axles we carry that meet the specs of this axle mount on top of the leaf springs so the Over-Under kit is you only option aside from finding an axle shop and sending in a custom order.

  • Replacing the Axle on a Gooseneck Horse Trailer
An axle flip kit like part # K71-384-00 will raise the trailer the diameter of the axle plus the height of the leaf spring pack. I do have options for you but rotating the axle to where the bend faces the other direction is not one of them. The bend in the axle will actually straighten out once a load is placed on the trailer and if this was reversed, the axle would lose capacity. Now from this point forward you have two options both of which entail replacing the axle. Since your current...
