Repair Sleeve for 6K Trailer Spindle

Question:

Hi i got a problem with my trailer. My hub shaft is damaged. The damaged area is where the outer bearing sits. The bearing is 15123 part number and the inner diameter of the bearing is 1.25 inches. The axle is 6000 lb axle. I know there are repair sleeves out there but, it seems its only for the spot where the seal sits not really the bearing. I hope there is one for my application otherwise im going to have a tough time finding a replacement axle. Thanks

We don't offer a replacement sleeve, nor would I recommend using one, as a significant portion of the trailer weight bill be sitting on that bearing surface which isn't the case for the area of the spindle where the grease seal rides which isn't weight bearing.

This leaves you a couple of options. You could replace the axle as you mentioned. Depending on your hub face to hub face and the distance apart that the spring seats sit, we might have an off-the-shelf replacement axle that would work for you. I'll provide a diagram showing how to measure these distances.

If the hub face to hub face distance is 86-1/2 inches and the spring seats are 71-1/2 inches apart, center to center, use # 8327826. For a 89 inch hub face and 74 inch spring seat distance, use # 8327830. For a 95 inch hub face and a 90 inch spring seat, use # 7461121.

If your hub face/spring seat dimensions are different, you'll need to order a custom axle from your local trailer supply shop as we don't ship custom axles.

Another option would be to replace the damaged spindle. Part # TRU37FR replaces the spindle for a 5.2, 6 or 7K axle. The spindle is compatible with a 25580 inner and a 14125A outer wheel bearing. The spindle includes the integrated brake mounting flange.

You'll want to use a professional welder to replace the spindle, because it needs to be installed perfectly square to the axle which isn't easy for a novice.
