Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Not factory condition on delivery. However, it was in "Almost new" condition. Product was lightly scratched and some paint was scuffed off. No obvious signs of damage, and the welds are solid.

This product easily fit on, and came with mounting instructions for my 2004 MK-IV VW Jetta (2.0 BBW engine code model). The instructions aren't exact, as the BBW is a specialty model, but they are still close enough. It's a bit close to the muffler on this model and is a little tedious to install, but it isn't hard. The muffler also points down and has more than enough clearance, so its no bother.

Overall install time was roughly the same as other reviewers, 40 min ~ 1 Hour. Drilling the holes and lining the framework up properly was the part that took me the longest. But then again, I'm anal about such things.

Overall, I'm satisfied with this product.

2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Great product and super fast shipping! By myself it took 45min. Pulls my 4wheeler great and feels sturdy enough for me to be comfortable with it. Time will tell how well it will last but for now I'm a happy customer, and I plan on using etrailer in the future!

by:
2003 Volkswagen Jetta

It was a easy install. Very solid product. Using it to tow my motorcycle trailer.

by:

Fit and finish great, took about 3 hrs to install the hitch and about 2 hrs for the wiring.
Shipping and service spot on.
I would recommend both items just adjust the time to install the hitch.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta

I have not actually installed the product as of yet the but the construction looks very high quality and the attachment design is the best ive seen for my vehicle(BS in Mechanical Engineering USF). my main praise for this purchase is the customer service. emails letting you know exactly what is going on with your order and who to call for questions or concerns at every stage on upto and after delivery. I like to be informed when I purchase something and etrailer did not dissapoint. with this level of service on the front end i can't imagine there be a problem they wont resolve down the road.

I dont baby the hitch by any means. It has performed flawlessly.

2005 Volkswagen Jetta

It arrived quick & in good order via UPS. It's a quality built hitch. This is my second time for installing a hitch on a VW Jetta IV body. So, Installation was straight forward. Directions were good. I'm very please with it. E-trailer does a good job having direct links on their website to specific fit accessory items (trailer light wire harness, drawbar, ball hitch, etc).

Very satisfied sturdy product . Easy to install The key to the easy install is the one existing bolt near the tow hook ...45 minutes to install.Fantastic product thank you

Dont use often but when I do it works great

great product, FAST shipping!!!, great communicati and updates through email. overall service was awesome!!!

by:

I was very pleased with the product quality and shipping time. I only have a few comments for installation instructions.

1) For the DIY'r, use a floor jack to help hold up the unite while you get your first bolts started.
2) Loosening up the exhaust pipe hangar will allow easier access to drill holes on the driver side.
3) Some means of getting the wiring kit outside tha car is not suggested. I just hung my out of the trunk lid when in use. Maybe a better design to allow the extension to exit the inside of the car.

by:

it would be better if this hitch was designed so the hitch retaining pin was not in the way of where your safety chain hook on not very much thought went into this design

2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Just finished installing a hitch on a 2002 VW Jetta TDI. Watched the video and got it done in I'd guess about 40 minutes to an hour. The hardest part was unloading the trunk. :) I have two words of advice. 1) use a jack or jack stand to help hold the hitch in order to mark the holes. 2) use a punch (nail, anything) to make a dent in the medal and then drill from the top down. (it's easier from the top, just BE SURE a jack is firmly holding the hitch in place as you drill.) way easier than trying to find a foot-long 1/2" bit to reach from below the exhaust system or to un-hang it and/or jack up the car.

2000 Volkswagen Jetta

My second draw tite receiver and I love it. I pull a 4x8 trailer and barely notice it's on the car. Installation was easy, just follow the tutorial from etrailer!

by:
Volkswagen Jetta

It took me 2 hours to install the hitch on my 02' VW Jetta this past weekend. All of the parts needed for the installation were included and the install went smoothly. I am very mechanical but watching the install video specific to my vehicle found on the etrailer website was very helpful in that I knew exactly what to do and what to expect during the installation process without having to worry that I may have missed something. Dealing with etrailer, price and installation was a great overall experience.

Was a great pleasure doing business with etrailer. Item was shipped ground, but got here real quick. I would recommend using etrailer to anyone, I will order again when I have a need to. Item was packed neat with all items I ordered. Recurred all hardware and did not have to provide anything but time, drill, drill bit, socket, and tq wrench. Everything was to my satisfaction and instructions were very user friendly. If you like to read your instructions those are provided or if you prefer a diagram that is also provided.
Great company to do business with.

by:
2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Good product. Some scratches missing paint on it but nothing too bad....it's a hitch after all....

Video was great for install. No problems drilling holes and securing hardware. I did use the extra silver metal plate for the hole on far left (when facing the trunk) when fastening the bottom nut....it worked much better than the instructions which just had a washer / split washer / nut......the suggested amount of torque would definitely tweak the washer/trunk without the metal plate....so use the extra metal plate on the far left bolt when fastening from the bottom.

Car hitch was delivered, as promised on date scheduled. No problems with installation of hitch. Would recommend etrailer without any reservation

Volkswagen Jetta

Installed on a Jetta. The hitch and wiring install went well. Thank you Lord, and I'm looking forward to using the new equipment as it is a God send. Thanks etrailer!!!

by:

The hitch was delivered in a timely manner. The hitch was protruding outside the shipping box. Paint was chipped in several spots. I went ahead and installed it anyway and just touched up the black paint. I did install very nice.

by:

I have installed 3 of these hitches on MkIV Jettas and Golfs for customers at my shop, and on my own car. They are well made, install with no headaches, and etrailer has always been great to do business with.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta

It does fit a Gas TurboI have a 2002 Jetta 1.8 Turbo. It will show the hitch underneath so it is not hidden, but I am pleased with this hitch. Jack up the left side before you drill so the holes match up. They don't explain that. I also did not have to drop the exhaust. It was pretty simple and I am very pleased with it.

by:

Everything was there, ahead of time (I paid for 3day shipping)
Video was good preparation, installation went without a hitch! No wait a minute, the hitch installed without a glitch!

by:
2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Fast shipping and an easy install. Seems adequate for a hitch bike rack.

The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24748 is confirmed to fit your 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Diesel. This hitch fits TDI models excluding gas turbo models. I have attached an installation video for a 2003 Jetta you may reference.

  • Trailer Hitch Compatible with 2006 VW Jetta 1.9L
The 2004 VW Jetta will use the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24748 which is not compatible with a 2006 Jetta. It was designed for the previous generation. You instead will need the hitch # C11474 which is specifically designed to fit 2006-2014 Jetta models. I've attached a couple of videos to assist.

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2003 Volkswagen Jetta Gas Turbo
The # 24748 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2003 Volkswagen Jetta with a gas turbo engine. You should note that the term Hidden Hitch refers to the brand of hitch and does not necessarily reflect how visible the hitch is. This hitch will work great with the Thule T2 # TH23JV that you are interested in as well.

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2002 Volkswagen VR6
As long as your 2002 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 does not have a turbo then you could use a Draw-Tite Hitch # 24748. If you have a turbo gas motor in your vehicle you would want a Draw-Tite # 24748. I attached installation instructions and an installation video for both products for you to check out.

  • Is There a 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver Available For a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta TDI?
For your 2004 Volkswagen Jetta I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24748 since you can only get a 1-1/4" class I receiver on your Jetta. Draw-Tite recommend using their Ball Mount # 3593 with this receiver on your Jetta. A 1-7/8" Ball # 19256 or 2" Ball # 19258 will be needed to connect to your car dolly. The Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit # HM48925 will give you a 4-way flat trailer connection to control the lights on your tow dolly.

  • Would a Thule Doubletrack Work on a 2001 Jetta with a Hidden Hitch # 60963
The Draw Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar, part # 24748, would be a good choice for your 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. I attached installation instructions and an installation video for this product for you to check out. Also, the Thule Doubletrack Platform-Style 2 Bike Carrier will work with # 24748. The Snug Tite receiver lock that is on the bike rack will work well on the # 60963 as well. I attached installation instructions for this product as well.

  • Can a Class II Ball Mount be Used in the Draw-Tite Class I Hitch, Part # 24758
The Draw-Tite Class II ball mount will not work with the Draw-Tite Class I hitch, part # 24748. To prevent Class II accessories from being used in a Class I hitch, the receiver has a stop welded into it to prevent the ball mount from sliding in far enough for the hitch pin to be slid into place. The only ball mount recommended for use with that hitch is the Class I ball mount, part # 3593. You must use the hitch manufacturer recommended ball mount on a Class I hitch otherwise it will void...

  • Ball Mount to Use with Draw Tite Hitch that Fits 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
When picking out a draw bar/ball mount for a Class I hitch that fits a vehicle like the # 24748 which fits your 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI you need to go with the ball mount that the hitch recommends. Like in this case you'd want the part # 3593 which is a fit for this hitch. Then for a hitch ball you'd want the part # 19258 for a 2 inch ball or the part # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball.

  • Will the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24748, Fit a Gas Turbo Model 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8 Turbo
Actually, all of the available hitches for any model of the 2002 VW Jetta have the same rating. They are rated for 200 pounds tongue weight capacity and 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight. However, they are not interchangeable among models. The mounting locations between models are different. The hitches are designed accordingly based on subtle differences in mounting locations under the vehicle. For a gas turbo model, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch, # 11070. It comes with a drawbar,...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation For Carrying Bike Rack on 2003 VW Jetta
Due to the size of the vehicle and the strength of the vehicle chassis where the hitch attaches, the only hitches available for the Jetta is a Class I that uses the 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. A Class I hitch with its 200 lb tongue weight capacity will be plenty strong for a bike rack as long as the weight of the rack and the bikes placed upon it doesn't exceed the 200 lb tongue weight capacity of the hitch. 2 inch hitches have a much higher weight capacity, high enough to damage the vehicle....

  • Does Installation of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Require Fascia Trimming on 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
Yes, the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24748 does fit the 2000 Volkswagen TDI. I have also included a link to the instructions to the right and you can see that there is no trimming of the bumper or fascia required for hitch installation. If you plan on doing some towing the correct ball mount is # 3593. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. And for trailer wiring use # 119178KIT.
