Will the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24748, Fit a Gas Turbo Model 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8 Turbo
Question:
I have a 2002 jetta gls the 1.8 turbo. the mounting of the 24748 sure looks much more stronger than the model made for the gas turbo jetta. I was wondering why i couldnt use the 24748. i would much rather purchase that hitch, i do have aftermarket exhaust just as a side note. Could i get the 24748 to work, it looks like it could to me but you guys are the experts. let me know what you think.

Actually, all of the available hitches for any model of the 2002 VW Jetta have the same rating. They are rated for 200 pounds tongue weight capacity and 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight.
However, they are not interchangeable among models. The mounting locations between models are different. The hitches are designed accordingly based on subtle differences in mounting locations under the vehicle.
For a gas turbo model, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch, # 11070. It comes with a drawbar, pin, and clip. I have included a link to the installation instructions and an install video below. With the aftermarket exhaust, it is hard to say if a hitch will fit or if the installation will change based on the non-factory exhaust. You will have to look at the instructions and determine what, if any, changes need to be made. I also recommend consulting the installer of the exhaust to see if a trailer hitch can be installed.
