Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Wiring Adapters - 47305B Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Part Number 47305B, this is the Hopkins Adapter. It's going to adapt your 6-pole round connector on the vehicle to your 4-pole flat. It's got the nice little dust cap that's going to protect the connection points when it's not being used. Removing the dust cap from the connector is going to expose our 4-pole flat connector. This unit's going to be made from a strong ABS plastic construction for strength and durability. It's also going to feature an impact and corrosion resistant design.

Here on the 4-pole flat side we're going to have the finger tabs, that allows us to get a nice solid grip on there. It allows for easy installation and removal. If we take a measurement of the overall length, it's only going to give us a measurement of about 3 inches long. Very simple installation though, this end right here is going to plug into your vehicle. You can see there that it has slots for all 6 pins, but only 4 of those have the terminals in it. That's because the 4 way connector is only going to use 4 functions or 4 signals.

It's only going to send back what it needs to, this end plugs into the vehicle. Then that's going to send the power to this connector right here and then you can plug in whatever you need to to this side and extend your power to your towing application. That's going to do it for today's review of Part Number 47305B.

Another great Hopkins product. I always look for Hopkins items when I have a need for trailer lighting or wiring repairs or replacements...Top Shelf. reasonably priced and durable. Thanks etrailer

by:

One year later, and it is still performing wonderfully!
For whatever reason, the shape of it prevents my standard socket lid from locking down 100%, but it fits very snuggly and I wouldn't be concerned unless is driving across the country with it.

One year later, still working great! Ive only had to use it a few times, but the material has held up, stored mostly in a bag.

The product was exactly what I ordered but Unfortunately I requested an six pin round adapter to a four pin flat when I should have requested a converter because my RV has separate brake and turn lights and my tow lights are single turn/brake lights.

by:

Just what I needed and the product arrived very fast. I looked several other places for this adaptor and etrailer.com was the only place with it and I'm very pleased.

by:

I am pleased with the two items that I ordered. Instead of having to change out my outdated plug, I was able to find adapters for my various trailers instead.

by:

Very pleased I ordered an adapter for my trailer lights I couldn't find one locally but found exactly what I needed on etrailer.com and was delivered in two days will make additional orders in the future if needed

by:

  • Does Brake Output Pin of Winnebago Motorhome Tie Into Stoplight Circuit
I'd be shocked if your brake controller output pin on your trailer wiring was wired to the stoplights as that would lock up the trailer brakes any time the brakes were touched. Trailer brakes will normally lock up at 12 volts so you need a brake controller to gradually ramp up the voltage to apply the brakes smoothly like with something like the Brake EVN # TK63VR. Also if the RV has trailer wiring the stoplights and turn signals would be combined on the same circuit for the wiring of...

  • Towing a Trailer with a 6-Pole Trailer Connector with a Vehicle That has a 4-Way Connector
Actually you need part # 37175. It plugs into your vehicle's existing 4-way and gives you a 6-way round. There are 3 extra wires; blue for trailer brakes, red for an auxiliary (usually 12 volt power), and a white for ground. The white wire needs to be grounded to the vehicle's frame from the connector to function. The other two can be capped off if you're not going to be use them. If you do need the other two wires the blue is run to the vehicle's cab and connected to the blue wire...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Connection for Lack of Brake Lights
The Hopkins Endurance Flex Trailer Connector Adapter w/ LED Circuit Tester - 6-Pole to 4-Pole # HM47320 and the other adapter you used most likely are not the issue. I recommend testing your 6-way connector with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to ensure you have both brake and turn signal function on each of the lower pins. If you have both the right turn and stop and the left turn and stop, then we know your vehicle connection is good. Since we know your trailer works with other vehicles,...

  • Trailer Connector Adapter for a 1994 Ford F-250 to Tow a Boat Trailer with a 4-Way Connector
The easiest way to tow your boat that has a 4-way trailer connector using your 1994 Ford F-250 with a 6-way connector is to use an adapter like # 47305B. If you have the more common 7-way blade connector on your truck you can use # 47345. Either simply plug into the truck's connector then you connect the trailer's 4-way. Since they're small they can easily be stored when not in use. The best part is whichever one you need will make you legal.

  • 6-Way Round to 4-Way Flat Adapter Recommendation for a Camper
If you are looking for a way to convert the round 6-way on your camper to a 4-way you would need a product like the Adapter 6-Pole Round to 4-Flat # 47305B. The 6-way male end of this adapter will plug into the 6-way on your camper and will provide a 4-way connection on the opposite side of the connector. The Wiring Harness part # 118391 that you referenced would not work for you as it is a wiring harness designed for Chevy Equinoxes.

  • Adapting a 6-Way Round Trailer Connector to a 4-Way Flat on a Winnebago
To adapt a 6-Way round trailer connector to a 4-Way flat, you will just need an adapter like # 47305B that you have referenced. The turn signals and brake lights on the Winnebago do not matter because the signals at the trailer connector are already converted to have the brake lights and turn signals on combined circuits which is what trailers use.

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2004 Pontiac Montana
Actually, all you will need to do is install a wiring harness, # C55355, on your 2004 Pontiac Montana. But if you wanted to use those factory wires, because you have separate wires for turn signals and brake lights, you would first need to install a converter. The converter, # RM-732, takes the separate signals and combines them which is what a trailer uses. To wire it up your yellow wire will go to the yellow wire on the converter, green will go to green, white will go to white, and red...

  • Ball Mount and Trailer Connector Adapter Recommendation for 2014 Mercedes GLK 350
It is important to choose a ball mount with the correct rise or drop needed so you can tow your trailer level. You will want to measure your hitch height, as well as the height of your trailer's coupler. The difference between these two heights will let you know which drop or rise you will want. I have attached a help article on finding the correct ball mount. You will also want to know the weight of the trailer you are towing. This is important to make sure you do not exceed the towing...

  • How to Connect an RV with a 6-Way Trailer Connector to a Flat Towed Vehicle with a 4-Way Connector
To connect your RV to your flat towed vehicle you will need a 6-way to 4-way adapter on the RV, like part # 47305B. Then to connect from the adapter to the front of your towed vehicle you can use the Roadmaster Extension Loop for Towed Vehicles # RM-300150-00. This has a 4-way vehicle side connector on each end.

  • Adapter for a 6-Way Round on a Harley Davidson Trike to a 4-Way Flat Trailer
It does not appear that any of the 6-Way to 4-Way adapters are going to work because of the unique pin out that is on the 6-Way on your 2013 Harley trike. You would essentially need to make an adapter to match the pin out. You will need a trailer side 6-Way, # PK11604, and a vehicle side 4-Way, # 18172, cut to the length you need. Then you just attach the wires in the right place to match the 6-Way you have. On the 4-Way end the white wire is ground, yellow is left turn and stop, green...

  • Adapting Different Connectors on 2014 Mercedes GLK250 and Prolite Suite Trailer
Vehicle and trailer connectors come in several varieties, including both 6-way round and 7-way blade types. The linked article on trailer wiring illustrates both, as well as other types. These two types are NOT compatible with each other. Within each type of connector sizes are usually standardized, although the actual wire configuration (what particular signal is carried by any given pin/wire) can vary by brand. My associates and I have not heard of this issue before but certainly a...
