Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I am 100 percent happy with the tires and rims, they are exactly what I was looking for. In the last year I have purchased 4 new 6 ply bias tires due to the new tires I had purchased the year before blowing out with a load. I purchased the 10 ply radial tires with the new rims for a new look and better reliability. The trailer pulls great and the tires and wheels handle excellent. These are great products that I couldn't find anywhere else. Thanks etrailer.

Its been a year and so couldnt be happier with the tires and rims. The rims have held up excellent. I cant say enough about the tire,I use the trailer to haul my Yamaha Rhino, pallets of floor tile, wood and stone. Before I purchased these tires I was having blowouts every other load, since changing to these havent had one. If you are thinking about purchasing new tires and rims, these are without a doubt an excellent choice. Thanks Randy

I recently received my order from e-trailer. I ordered a Dexstar wheel, a pair of Kenda tires, a chrome when center cap, lug nuts and screw in studs. I read all the pertinent info supplied as well as check exactly the brands, sizes etc of the parts I was replacing. I was notified by email (from Phyllis) the day following the order placement that their was a shipment delay of the tires, I was supplied with equivalent tire replacements which could have been supplied to keep the order on time or wait a week and get exactly what I originally ordered. I waited and received everything faster then I thought it would have taken. Phyllis kept me updated every couple days on the order progress- so nice! I was a little unsure if the screw in studs would fit but ordered what seemed to be the best match (had to start somewhere & figured I could return if no fit) and studs and lugs fit as stock- exact matches. This was my 2nd order in two years and have had great customer service and better then stock replacement parts, certainly all for a cheaper price then I could ever find in NW Montana! Thank You all at e-trailer!

Geat looking rim with new trie on it.

Needed a spare for my SeaDoo trailer. Also got a bracket to mount it on the tongue of the trailer. Etrailer had want I wanted, great service (price and shipping) - cannot wait to get them mounted up and ready to go. High fives all around!

by:

The wheels looked fine, I haven't had them on the highway yet.

Etrailers customer service before the sale was excellent and the FAQs on the site are very helpful. Shipping was really quick too.

I learned a lot about axles, hubs and wheels while rebuilding an old Dilley trailer and converting to haul three 17 foot sea kayaks and camping associated camping gear.

Perfect. Delivered in time.

Product is just as described! Shipping time was faster than quoted! I have recommended this site to not my best friend and to my father who are both in need of new wheel/tire combos.

I will do business with again!

THE BEST customer service that I have seen in decades. No joke. eTrailer.com had the products we needed, excellent prices, and their customer service was superb. I had never even thought about buying tires and rims online, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. My husband was just remarking this past week about how much easier the towing is now that we upgraded the tires and rims. THANK YOU!!!

They Arrived very quickly and safely which was great for my schedule to get them installed to do work last Saturday morning. Packaged well. Handled well.

by:

I recently discovered etrailer while searching for a specific steel spoke trailer wheel. Not only did they have the item I was looking for, but their selection was vast, and the prices were competitive. The website was easy to navigate, and the product descriptions were informative and accurate. I was pleasantly surprised by the fast shipping and the care they took in packaging my order. I’m thrilled with my purchase and will continue to shop at etrailer for all my needs.

by:

The wheels are of good quality but have two flaws. First, the inside hole has very sharp edges that cut my finger when carrying it. Second, if you’re mounting hub caps on them, be aware that the red and blue stripes they paint on the outer rim (why?) still show. I tried painting over them with white enamel paint- didn’t work. Turns out, the stripes are applied AFTER the powder coating process so they come off with lacquer thinner and elbow grease, fortunately. The photo shows the rim after the stripes were removed.

by:

Unbelievable service and quality, and hey these wheels are made in the U.S.A., that's hard to find now days. I ordered 4-16"x 6" 8 lug wheels at 4:20 pm on Tuesday and received them 11:00 am Wednesday morning. I am very satisfied to say the least. Thanks Steve S.

by:

Needed 2 more rims found these glossy black that matched my other 4 rims.Look great.

by:

Needed an additional wheel for a spare as we have had three flats at one time and I didn’t have two at the time. This fits perfect on the trailer. I have not used it on the trailer going down the road so I will update my rating accordingly but if needed.

etrailer has been great to work with!
I

  • Replacement Dexstar 12" 5 Bolt Trailer Wheel
It sounds like you are looking for a Dexstar 12" Trailer Wheel with 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. We currently have a few wheels which fit in this category. In order to choose the correct one simply filter then by style and finish. I have attached the list below. The Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel part # AM20132 is most common.

That particular tire size, the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E Item # AM10140, is only sold separately and unmounted. This gives you a wide range of wheel choices. Since you said, not aluminum, take a look at the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel - 12" x 4" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - White Powder Coat # AM20151 this is a just one choice of many. All the 12 inch steel wheels like # AM20132 are limited to 1250 lbs capacity so you won't get the full load capacity...

  • Option For Replacement 4.80x12 Trailer Tire & Wheel
We do have an option for a replacement 4.80x12 trailer tire and a wheel, though I'm not quite sure what you are referring to by the lug spacing. What you'll need to know is your wheel's bolt pattern, which should be either 5 on 4-1/2" or 4 on 4" though if you aren't sure, I have added links below to a help article and printable template which shows you exactly how to determine the bolt pattern. Once you know that, you can use the following tire as a replacement, and one of the two wheels,...

  • Do Aluminum Trailer Wheels Weigh Less than Steel Trailer Wheels
The aluminum wheel #LH45FR weighs about 1 pounds less than the comparable steel wheel # AM20132 if you look at the shipping weight. But in reality, the weights are closer with the steel wheels being just a little heavier. If you want to go with the lightest option, I would go aluminum.

  • Best Wheels for 2003 Rockwood Freedom Pop-Up and 145R12 Tires
Based on my research your 2003 Rockwood Freedom pop-up camper will have wheels that are 5 on 4-1/2 inches. Your 145R12 tires will fit any 12x4 inch rim, so I've attached the link to all your options. For a traditional option, I recommend the Taskmaster Steel 8-Spoke Trailer Wheel # AM20132 which will give you the factory original look. • Things To Consider When Increasing Trailer Wheel Size
There's two primary considerations you'll want to take into account before swapping your existing 8 inch rims for 12 inch rims. The first is the wheel bolt pattern. A 4.80-4.00-8 Tire would typically be mounted on an 8 x 3-3/4 inch wheel and would have either a 4 on 4 inch or a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. The 12 inch rim you choose would need to have a matching bolt pattern. The wheel's pilot diameter is really only important if it's a hub-centric wheel that uses lug bolts to attach...

I recommend the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10130 which will be an exact match for your current tires. If you are also needing a wheel I recommend the Dexstar Steel Modular Trailer Wheel - 12" x 4" Rim - 4 on 4 - White # AM20122 if your wheels use the 4 on 4" bolt pattern, or the # AM20132 if your current wheels have the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. Both tire sizes you mentioned of 4.80-12 and 5.30-12 fit the same size wheel of 12 inch diameter by 4 inches wide like the part # AM20132 for a wheel with a 5 bolt pattern or part # AM20122 for a wheel with a 4 bolt pattern.

  • Trailer Wheel and Tire for Rockwood Flagstaff Pop Up
The best trailer tire for a 12 inch wheel is going to be the Taskmaster part # TT53012C with a wheel like the Dexstar part # AM20132. This tire doesn't come pre-mounted from us but it has a higher speed rating at 81 mph, a great weight capacity and is a radial. Most tires in the size you have now are limited to 65 mph as the max speed they can go before they get hot and end up failing which is why it's important to go with one that has a higher speed rating.

  • Will 5.30-12 Tire Fit 12 Rim from Different Tire Size
I have never heard of a 6.00-12 tire but theoretically yes, you can use the same 12" rim for a 5.30-12 size tire like part # AM10066 as the last set of numbers refers to the wheel size that the tire fits. You do need to make sure that your tire is compatible with the width of the wheel as well (which you can find stamped on the inward-facing side of the wheel). For example, the Kenda tire mentioned above fits a 12" rim that is 4" wide like part # AM20132.

  • Fit of Wheel Mounting Pad on Face of Trailer Hub
Hi, it looks like you are using a hub centric wheel with a lug-centric hub. A hub centric wheel relies on the portion of the hub that extends through the wheel's pilot hole to provide the support. In this instance, it's not super-crucial that the mounting pad of the wheel sits perfectly flat against the hub face. With a lug centric wheel, it's VERY important that the wheel sits perfectly flat. Long story short, I would NOT use that wheel on that hub. For a 12 inch wheel, I'd use something...
