Optronics MCL44 Series LED Side Marker Clearance Light Diagram

P2-Rated Lights

Diagram of light spread for P2 rated light

A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.

The are working great and are bright at night. I bought two more lights just like them to add to my trailer

by:

I have some pictures for you to share at etrailer so you can see where all of my lights went to. Just to let you know and at the present time I'm working up another order for another 8 lights and that will be a total of 56 lights that I have put on the truck. Thanks for the great service.

by:

Simple and easy to install!!

by:

Will match the original design well

by:

Clearance/side marker lights were exactly what I needed at a reasonable price!! Thank y’all

by:

This company is top notch they have what i need for any of my trailers and ship it out immediately. Couldnt ask for a better company.

by:

I bought both this and the red colored lights.

Product
is very easy to install. It serves its purpose by being bright enough as a marker/clearance light without being obnoxiously bright.

My only negative comment is the packaging. I bought 4 lights and it was packaged with a crumpled packaging paper on the bottom of the box and all 4 lights was just placed on top of it. I think the lights should have been individually wrapped as there were some light scratches on all the lights when I opened the box. Not really a concern of mine as nobody will ever see the scratch unless looked on very, very closely, but people with major OCD might not like it at all.

Still works.. Only thing I forgot to mention in my 1st review. The entire light assembly is not sealed. The led circuit board is sealed with some sort of hot glueclear silicone but not the whole assembly. I decided to seal the entire assembly with clear silicone can be bought at any hardware store to prevent the inside of the reflector housing from becoming discolored.

These 1 wire self-grounding lights from Optronics are exactly what I was needed to match up with original lights on my enclosed car trailer. These lights were a breeze to install, the led's are bright and I am very happy with this product and Etrailer !!!!

How to order marker tail light lenses for my trailer. When they arrived I discovered I had ordered the wrong one I called and they were very helpful in returning them. And help me find the right ones. Received them in a timely matter. They were the right size and easy to install.

They were a perfect Nice and bright I have not had any problems with them

by:

Extremely pleased with the quality of the part and the condition and timeliness of the delivery. Thank you etrailer for a job well done!

by:

Outstanding product. Very easy to mount. No more worries if my trailer lights are going to light at the beginning of Spring. No more stocking up of light bulbs. Now hook up and roll.

Outstanding.

by:

These were very easy to install. They look great lit up. Lots of clear, obvious light. They have been very reliable. Good product!

I think, if I remember correctly, that I popped the lens off and pulled out the ground wire and made a ground connection back to the ground circuit inside my trailer. It was a few extra steps but I never have to worry about a direct ground to the trailer going bad (which plagued my old trailer light setup).

by:

I bought these to replace the incandescent lights that were on my trailer. It matched my old ones perfectly maybe they were the same company i am not too sure. These are bright at night the color is crisp compared to the old lights. The lens has no rubber seal nor is it one whole piece. The leds themselves are covered in some sort of clear epoxy to make it waterproof. There are 6 leds in the middle i wish they had some pointing to the side so it gives a brighter glow but this style is not bad. Good thing about leds is the long life they have so there is one less thing to worry about. Especially towing late night to the race track the people behind me can see me a good distance away with how bright these are compared to the old lights.

by:

Overall a nice product; however, one was DOA (etrailer customer service took care of that easily); lens is easy to crack so be super careful when opening it to install. They aren't as bright as some I've seen on Amazon for a lower price but wasn't sure of the quality. I can count on etrailer.com to stand behind their product.

by:

Placed my order on a Sunday when I discovered I had a few marker lights not working on the trailer. We were to leave on the following Friday for a trip to Colorado from Georgia so I had a 2 day rush shipment. I was very surprised when I got an email later that day that said my lights had been packaged and shipped and had the tracking number. I received the parts on Tuesday 2 days later just as expected. Very pleased with the parts and the transaction. Highly recommend E Trailer!

by:

Good fit, east install. This is a good quality light. Finally, after 15 years of owning this trailer, ALL my clearance lights WORK! LED's provide good visibility and should last much longer than incandescent bulbs.

by:

Excellent, LEDS and wiring are sealed from moisture, wire can be pulled back and terminated inside the lens cover, the cover is replaceable. We elected to replace all the lighting in/on our 1987 NOMAD RV trailer with LED.

by:

The lights arrived and the installation was very easy, most of the lights i ordered we're plug and play. The LED lights make a big difference on seeing the trailer at night

by:

Change over from regular lighting system to LED pretty simple. Note, make sure you order the correct wiring system (1 or 2 wire). The 1 wire system can be utilized but will need some adjustments.
Front facing markers are so bright you may find it blinding especially when backing up at night.

by:

Exact replacement for the incandescent lights that came on my diamond cargo trailer except better, LED quality is great and the ease of changing to led is even better. Fast shipping and awesome selection!

by:

Everything arrived in perfect order and exactly as I was hoping for. I will get these parts installed on our horse trailer soon and will attach pictures once completed. I also will be ordering a few more items for my new pop up once I get it home and see exactly what it needs. Looking forward to fixing that up as well.

by:

Exact replacement bulbs for the clearance lights on my horse trailer, speedy delivery even tho I chose the standard shipping.

by:

Nice looking light, installation holes on light where exactly as my old ones which made very easy . would like to have seen a weatherproof gasket. Made my own using doublesided tape

by:

I only used the lens to replace the one missing on my RV. It was a good fit. The entire light assembly looked like a real nice product.

by:

Product application was perfect. Easy installation with great internet advice and instructions if necessary. Prefer doing business with E-trailer. Thanks.

  • Wiring Single Wire Trailer Clearance Lights
The single wire clearance lights like # MCL44AB1 will be grounded through the mounting. You can either mount these to the frame of the trailer or structural components connected to the frame of the trailer. The siding or skin of the trailer is not likely to be a good enough ground. You can run a common ground wire to the series of lights used if there is not a good connection between them. I've attached some videos and articles to assist.

  • Comparing How To Wire Single Wire and Two Wire LED Lights In Box Truck
2 wire LED lights and single wire LED lights will get wired pretty similarly. On a single wire light like the Optronics LED Trailer Clearance and Side Marker Light w/ Reflex Reflector - 6 Diodes - Amber Lens # MCL44AB1 you were looking at the wire is for power, and the light is grounded through the mounting hardware. On a 2 wire LED light like the 60" LED Lights you have the white wire will get grounded to your box truck, and the other wire is the power wire. You will need to make sure...

  • Troubleshooting Side Maker Lights Not Working When Going From 2-Wire Lights To 1-Wire Connections
It sounds like when you connected your single wire marker light like the Optronics LED Trailer Clearance and Side Marker Light # MCL44AB1, your ground connection on that side was removed. • How to Determine Correct Wiring Connection for Replacement LED Clearance Lights
Clearance lights function from the running light circuit (that also powers your tail lights) and since this is typically just a 2-wire hookup the extra wires on your lights could simply be there to allow multiple clearance lights to be wired together. Very often in trailer wiring a white wire serves as ground; based on your photo that would make the green wire the + wire for the running light circuit. You can simply test the light wires on the trailer while you have 12V power connected...
