Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Hub for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Excellent experience. Friendly Customer Service helped confirm I had identified the correct part numbers for my trailer. Also, I had previously added Bearing-Buddys to my trailer, but the service person explained why these were not beneficial on my E-Z Lube Hub Assys.

by:

Excellent service and communication when thse parts were back ordered. Worked prefect for my Triton snowmobile trailer.

After a year and many trips on the trailer Im still very happy with these parts.

by:

Bought the axle and hubs and springs. Everthing went together well, very happy with the quality of product.

by:

The initial problem I had with the 2004 Triton snowmobile I purchased in 2013 used, never had it's wheels removed. I needed to replace the original tires that were all cracked. The lug bolts spun in the hub trying to remove the rusted nuts.
The trailer hub assembly solved the problem. Easy insulation with all the required parts for a complete rebuilt. So with new hub, bearing, tires and never-seize coated threads, I'm happy and confident I can remove the lug nuts and change a tire on the road.

by:

The 2200lb EZ Lube trailer hubs came quickly and had all the advertized components in the package. The quality of the hubs seems excellent and they fit right up on my trailer perfectly once I packed the bearings and installed the seals. Definitely a step-up from the original components the trailer came with. Took the trailer on a 200 mile round-trip drive a day or two after the new hubs/bearings were installed and it pulled perfectly. I would recommend this product to a friend.

by:

Ordered on Monday afternoon, received on on Thursday afternoon, saved the weekends PWC outing. Word of caution upon installation: be sure to fully clean the grease seal's mating surface to be free from rust and debris, this can cause water to enter hub. Best to use a grease pressurized system like the Bearing Buddy system, cheers ??

by:

Fits perfect looks great

by:

There were some issues with the initial delivery, however, the customer service representative quickly got replacement parts sent to me. Things don't always work out perfectly, but good companies work quickly to correct errors (damaged components in my case). I would be confident giving a recommendation for etrailer.

by:

Great replacement galvanized hub assembly kit. Excellent quality, better than the original it replaced.

by:

Replaced one I damaged with a loose wheel. Five minutes to change. Love the easy lube.

by:

Looked exactly like the picture I saw when placing the order. Everything was there, no mysteries. All new products well packaged.

This was my first time replacing a hub assembly and it went great. Parts fit exact which made it a breeze. Wish I would have ordered 2 right off the bat. It was so easy I want to upgrade the other side to galvanized also.

by:

Hubs were perfect replacement. Went on easy. Great price and fast shipping

by:

No problems at all with the parts.

  • Can The Capacity Of An Axle Be Determined By Looking At The Hubs?
Though it is sometimes possible to identify an axle's capacity based of the hub, it is not always 100% accurate. Due to this, I tell people to not rely on just this alone. As a quick example, if you look at the Dexter Hub # 8-259-50BTUC1 and # 8-259-50UC1-EZ, they will both use the exact same 8-259 hub. However, the # 8-259-50BTUC1 will use the # L44643 inner and outer bearing and is rated for use on a 2,000 pound axle. The # 8-259-50UC1-EZ will use the # L44649 inner and outer bearing...

  • Can E-Z Lube Spindle TRU27FR For 2,500 lb Axle be Used in Water
Your kayak trailer can absolutely use the BTR E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Brake Flange for 2,500-lb Trailer Axles - 1-3/4" Diameter # TRU27FR. So long as your hub utilizes the grease cap properly the E-Z Lube spindle will be perfectly fine on your kayak trailer in the water. E-Z Lube spindles are fairly common on boat trailers, and its convenience alone makes it the better option than a standard spindles, so you'll be happy going with the E-Z Lube Spindle # TRU27FR. Then for a hub that works...

  • Recommended Hub Assembly For Snowmobile Trailer With Dexter EZ-Lube Axle
The hub assembly we offer for a 2,200-lb EZ-Lube axle is part # 8-259-50UC1-EZ. This hub has a zinc plating that makes it great for snowmobile trailers or boat trailers. The Inner bearing and race, outer bearing and race, grease seal, grease cap, and galvanized lug nuts are included. The # L44649 inner and outer bearings have a 1.063 inch inner diameter. The # RG06-020 seal has a 1.5 inch inner diameter and 1.987 inch outer diameter. The bearing kit that will work with this hub is part...

  • Dexter 8-259 Hub Assembly Replacement
I believe the correct replacement hub assembly for your Dexter 8-259 is the part # DX38XR for a black powder coat finish or part # 8-259-50UC1-EZ for a galvanized finish. Both of these use a # L44649 bearing for both the inner and outer bearing locations. You can verify your current bearing number by removing your hub assembly, removing the bearings, and then looking on the inside ring for the part number (see attached photo). If you have something other than L44649 let me know and I...

  • What is the Torque Rating for the Castle Nut to Hold on Trailer Idler Hub # 8-259-50UC1-EZ
I checked with Dexter and on light duty hubs such as # 8-259-50UC1-EZ they recommend the castle nut be tightened to 50 foot pounds. If that makes it too tight then back off the nut some until it is no longer overly tight and the hub can be spun by hand.

  • Where To Find Numbers For Replacement Bearings On Utility Trailer
Since the axle you have is a Dexter Model 8259 you can choose one of the hub assemblies we offer from the attached product page. If you have an EZ-Lube axle on your trailer you may want to check out part # 8-259-5UC1-EZ, or part # 8-259-50UC1-EZ. If you do not have an EZ-Lube axle take a look at part # 8-259-5UC1 or part # 8-259-50UC1. I have attached links to some product review videos for these kits you can take a look at.

  • Replacement Hub for 1989 Ranger Trailer
Judging by your photo, your trailer would use an idler hub, not a hub drum. Assuming you have 5 lug on 4-1/2 inch bolt circle wheels that use an # L44649 inner and outer wheel bearing, you have a few choices. Rather than the painted hub, I'd recommend going with a galvanized hub for greater corrosion resistance. Dexter hubs are manufactured in the US, which is what I'd recommend. For an 8, 10 or a 12 inch wheel, use # 8-259-50UC1 for a standard spindle or # 8-259-50UC1-EZ for the EZ Lube...

  • Availability of Replacement Axle for Small Trailer Carrying 200 lb Sailboat
We do carry several off the shelf axles, but I'm afraid nothing we offer would be as short as you're needing. The lowest capacity beam axle we offer is # CE33201GA which has an 1800 lb capacity, but the hub face to hub face dimension is 57-1/2 inch and the distance between the center of the spring seats is 46-1/2 inches, which would probably be too long for your needs. You can measure the hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center dimension. I'll provide a diagram showing the...

  • Hubs for 13 Inch Tire with 5-1/2 Hub Flange Diameter
I spoke with an engineer from our hub manufacturer, Dexter, and they do not recommend using a hub for 8-12 inch wheels with a 13 inch wheel. However, they said that they do not make a hub for 13 inch wheels that has a hub flange diameter of smaller than 6-1/2 inches. The best option that we can recommend is to replace your wheels to fit the hubs we offer. The hub designed for smaller tires with a smaller hub flange will technically fit but, there may be no warranty support if something...

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Hub for a Boat Trailer
In order to pick out the correct hub assembly for a trailer you are going to need know a few key pieces of information. The first thing you will need to know is the bolt pattern of your hubs.
