Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I replaced the axle and hubs on my old trailer. I wanted to lower the height of my trailer. These items worked great. A year later I’ve had no issues with these components.

by:

One assembly shipped with the wrong bearings. The other had damaged bearings.. I wasn't happy with the hoops i had to jump through to get the correct bearings. The hub and bearings were simply shrink wrapped together and shipped in a box, so the carrier likely damaged the bearings. But etrailer could have definitely packed these better.

Nothing else wrong with the products and a few weeks later I received the right bearings after shipping back the bent up ones. Just a pain in the ass to wait and have a company question my integrity about some $[XX] bearings... oh and rear seals didn't match up to my spindle. I purchased those elsewhere.
etrailer asked for this review 6 months after my purchase date.

18 month update. Hubs work as they should. No signs of rust after 18 months of saltwater boat launches.

by:

I ordered two of these hub kits for my boat trailer. They arrived on the day first estimated.
I would have rated them five stars if the bearings were not packed loosely into a plastic bag with seals, lug nuts, and grease caps. The seals are also clearly a lesser grade. I did not use them.
Everything assembled and went on fine though.

by:

Made my Trailer ride like new... Excellent products and service.

by:

Great replacement for mfr. hub. As advertised and perfect fit.

by:

Bought a teardrop camper used, noticed the OEM hub bearing seals had begun to seep grease. Replaced them both quickly and easily with this kit. We camp on BLM land up barely maintained fire roads and these are holding up very nicely. And the customer service here is excellent.

by:

Overall I would rate this product as good. My only issue with them is that the hub cap is really thin and cheap. It basically caved-in during installation. I would recommend buying a better set of hub covers if you purchase these hub kits.

SO FAR EVERYTHING IS RUNNING GREAT...NO PROBLEMS.... GREAT PRODUCT.....

by:

Great advice from etrailer. Everything fits and easy to install. Love the fact that the hubs are galvanized.

by:

Bearing went out after a few months due to bad seal. Wish I took a pic at the time, but had to fix it as asap with a spare. Customer service responded quickly , but should've provided a discount for an obvious manufacturing defect. Quick shipping

by:

Everything fit as it should and have held up so far with no issues. Very happy with this and every other i have had with etrailer.com

by:

fast shipping and all parts fit fit tha nks

by:

Perfect fit for my Hyde Drift Boat Trailer. Easy to install. I was in a hurry and selected the most inexpensive shipping, which i didn't realize was USPS. Go with the UPS 2 Day!

by:

I'm rebuilding an axle on my trailer that I haul my bobcat and tractor on. I found all the parts I needed and they were shipped on time. It saved me a lot of time to have them shipped to my plant. We are in a rural area. I will be using etrailer for all my trailer needs.

by:

As always etrailer had what I needed. I shopped around and no other outlet had exactly what I wanted. Their website is easy to navigate and makes finding the right part a breeze.

by:

Samantha H did a great job helping me out with the purchase of new bearings and hubs for my utility trailer.

by:

The "Galvanized" coating wore off in spots during shipping so not sure how well it'll hold up over time. Other wise good quality and perfect fit.

by:

Thanks for quick and easy delivery. The hub assembly works great

by:

Looked great and nice quality and packaged great! Thanks!

  • Trailer Hub that Fits 1 inch or 1-1/6 inch Diameter Spindle
We have hubs that are designed to fit spindle diameters that you mentioned of 1 inch and 1-1/6 inch. If you have a straight spindle with a 1 inch diameter you'd have a BT8 spindle and the hub part # 8-258BTUC1 that you referenced would fit. If you have a spindle with a straight diameter of 1-1/6 inch then you'd have a BTR spindle and would want a # 8-258-50UC1. The diameter of the spindle where the seal would ride on either would be 1.25 inch. If you can verify your spindle dimensions...

  • Can Boat Trailer With Shorelander Hub 4470337 go From 12 Inch to 13 Inch Tires & Wheels
Okay, we definitely have a solution for you here, and I'll start with the clearance; with trailer tires you need to have 3" of clearance from the top of the tire to your fender and at least 1" of clearance between the inside of the tire and your trailer's frame rail. For reference, a 5.30-12 tire (when inflated) is 5.6" wide and 21.9" diameter, and a 175/80-13 tire is 7" wide and 24.1" in diameter. So you can use those measurements (1.4" or a little more than 1-3/8" wider as well as 2.2"...

  • New Grease Seal Leaked After Installation of Bearing Buddies with Hub Kit # 8-248-50UC1
Thank you for your recent purchase from etrailer. The grease seal included with this hub kit has an inner diameter of 1.500-inches and an outer diameter of 1.987-inches. This seal should be fully seated into the rear bore of the hub so that it is flush with the back hub surface. The grease seal leak you experienced could come from the seal not being fully seated into the hub, or it could, as you noted, be a result of the over-filling of your Bearing Buddies. If this hub does not have...

  • How to Determine Correct Replacement Hub For Trailer
Thanks for the photo, and we can get you set up with a new hub, though unfortunately hubs require either knowing your bearings or precise measurements and aren't universal. So, there's a few things you need to know to get the right replacement hub - the weight rating of your axle, and also what bearings your current hub has. To find the bearings, since you already have the hub off, now you just need to take it apart and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should...

  • Which Hub with Bearings L44649 Can work with Trailer Brakes
While the idler hub part # 8-258-50UC1 will fit on your axle it can't be used with brakes as it does not have a drum attached to it. So instead you'd want the # 8-257-5UC3 which is the version of this hub that has a brake drum attached to it. For brake assemblies you'd then need the part # 23-47 for the left hand side and part # 23-48 for the right hand side. I also attached a link to a help article that covers adding brakes to a trailer for you to check out as well.
