Availability of Replacement Axle for Small Trailer Carrying 200 lb Sailboat

Hi, I have a 1969 Sears trailer that I haul my small sailboat on. Im replacing the axle because I cant find new hubs that fit the original short spindles. So Im replacing the axle, hubs/wheels, but not sure if I should replace the springs too. I was able to remove the old axle and its 53inch long. What type of replacement do you recommend? My boat weights less than 200lbs.

We do carry several off the shelf axles, but I'm afraid nothing we offer would be as short as you're needing. The lowest capacity beam axle we offer is # CE33201GA which has an 1800 lb capacity, but the hub face to hub face dimension is 57-1/2 inch and the distance between the center of the spring seats is 46-1/2 inches, which would probably be too long for your needs. You can measure the hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center dimension. I'll provide a diagram showing the measurements you'll need to take.

I also have what might be the perfect solution for you. Timbren offers an Axle-Less Suspension System, part # ASR400S02-G. The system uses no axle beam, and everything is galvanized but the spindle. Perfect for a fresh or saltwater environment. The system also includes an AEON progressive-rate main spring on each unit to absorb road shock and support the trailer's load which will allow you to remove your existing spring hangers and leaf springs.

For compatible galvanized hubs, go with two of part # 8-259-50UC1-EZ idler hubs. These hubs have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and include the races, bearings, spindles, grease seals, grease cap and lug nuts. The wheels you use will need to be between 8-12 inches in diameter, and be compatible with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.
