Selecting Replacement Hubs for 1963 Travel Trailer

Question:

Hi, I have a 1963 travel trailer that needs a replacement hub. The number on the good existing one is HADCO 394. Is there a suitable replacement hub for this? Thanks

Thank you for the information from your vintage travel trailer's existing hub assembly. This is likely a casting number and will not give us what we need to find you correct replacement hubs, but it is not hard to determine correct new hubs. You will definitely want to replace both hubs.

Things you need to match up are the hub bolt pattern, the axle weight rating and the bearing numbers. The linked article will help you with identifying the bolt pattern, the axle should have a sticker or plate with its weight rating and the bearing numbers should be found on the bearings themselves. Please refer to the linked photo for the typical appearance and location of bearing numbers.

Once you know these bits of information you can use the linked page to all of our trailer hubs to select the hub type (idler or hub/drum for trailers with brakes) bolt pattern, weight rating and bearing set that match yours. Click on your bolt pattern, then select axle rating and bearings to see compatible hubs. For example, for a 5-on-4-1/2 idler hub for a 2200-lb that uses bearing L44649 you can use part # 8-258-50UC1.

If you need a bearing packer for greasing the new bearings you can use # PTW1218 along with bearing grease # L154FR.
