Correct Hub Assembly for Dexter 8-258 Hub and 13-Inch Wheels

Question:

I have a 4X8 trailer that has 5 on 4 1/2 hubs with 13inch wheels. I would like to get complete hubs with everything. Cant find much info on the hubs. Its a dexter axle with 8-258 cast in the hub. Also had 216 and A4 cast into the hub.

With axle 8-258, your bearings are either # L44643 or # L44649. # L44643 bearings have an inner diameter of 1 inch, while bearings # L44649 have an inner diameter of 1.063 inches. You can locate the bearing numbers on the bearings themselves, or you can measure the diameter using the image I've attached.

We offer two hub assembly kits with # L44643 bearings. Item # 8-258BTUC1 is the standard hub assembly kit, which includes lug nuts, inner bearings and race, outer bearings and race, grease cap, and grease seal. Item # 8-258-50BTUC1 is a similar assembly with the same size parts, but this kit features a galvanized finish. The galvanized version is great for marine use and has a zinc plating with a 500-hour salt spray rating.

For the bearing size # L44649, we offer assembly kits for 2,000-lb and 2,200-lb axles. Your axle should have a sticker or plate with the capacity listed. The 2,000-lb axle kit is Item # 8-258-5UC1-EZ, which includes the lug nuts, inner bearing and race, outer bearings and race, grease seal, grease cap, and wheel bolts. The E-Z Lube design of this kit makes lubricating your bearings simple.

For 2,200-lb axles, we offer the standard hub assembly kit, Item # 8-258-5UC1, which includes the parts mentioned above. We also offer a galvanized version, Item # 8-258-50UC1.

I've included video reviews of these kits for you as well as a couple of useful articles on bearings, hubs, and axles.
