Video Transcript for Flint Hill Goods Hitch Lock Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the Flint Hill Goods hitch lock. So this is gonna be for 2" hitches. It's also gonna have a 2 3/4" span here on the inside. You can use this to lock up accessories in your hitch. That way, nobody can mess with 'em when you're not around.

Let's check it out. There's the lock, it's gonna be really easy to use. You get two keys with it. You just put this in the barrel, turn it, and you wanna make sure you're holding the barrel to turn that key. And you see, if you're try to do that without it, it's gonna spin.

So you wanna make sure to hold on there, push down, turn it, it's unlocked. Then to lock it, push it back on, hold that barrel again and turn it over. Locked into place. The pin diameter on the lock is gonna be 5/8". So just keep that in mind with what accessories you want to use.

One of the accessories that you can have in your hitch that you wanna protect, is going to be a adjustable ball mount. So if this sits in here all the time always pulling trailers with it, you're wanna make sure it stays there. So, we'll just run this through, where the hitch pin will go. It's gonna vary on different hitches and clearance. You see there's not a lot of clearance on this vehicle today.

So, going to put the barrel on there, it can have a little added difficulty. You wanna make sure that you hold onto this barrel and turn the key at the same time to lock it in place. You can't just free turn it, it won't click that way, and you don't wanna be have to push the lock back the other way. So, you just got this one key. Hold the barrel, turn the key. It's a carbon steel construction with an e-coating on the outside. Even has texture here on the barrel, so that helps you hold onto that when you need to turn the key on this end, gives you some grip at least. You also have the PVC dust cap on this side, so that's gonna keep dirt and debris out of the lock to keep it functioning a lot longer. There's also some grip on the other side. So that's also gonna help when you're installing the lock. Now, another use for it would be with the adjustable ball mount, you can actually use it to lock up the accessory. So if you want it just not to be messed with and you wanna keep it the same height, you don't want anybody to be able to pull these pins and clips out and move it around, you just throw one up top and it's locked in its place. Now the lock isn't just for accessories or ball mounts. You can use it on bike racks or cargo carriers, hitch mounted accessories, just as long as they don't have anti-rattle bolts. This isn't threaded, so it's not gonna be the anti-rattle bolt that you're replacing with, so it's not gonna work overall for that accessory. It's only for standard bike racks or cargo carriers that don't have those threads. Another hitch lock to consider, is gonna be the etrailer hitch lock. This one works a little bit differently, so you'll put the barrel at the end there. Then you'll turn the key to tighten it up, so you don't have to hold both sides on this one. Just hold the grippy side and turn the key on the other side til it's tight. Then just remove the key, and put the dust cap on. I actually prefer this style to the the Flint Hill Goods ones. It's just nice to be able to turn the key on this end, not fight the barrel turning while you're trying to do that. It's so much easier to get that lock into place (lock clicks) and get all your accessories locked up. Overall, the Flint Hill Goods lock worked pretty well. I only ran into some issues when we put it in the hitch. We don't have a lot of clearance here so that could change depending on what it looks like at the back of your vehicle. However, I would suggest thinking about what accessory you're gonna use it with. So if it's an accessory you're gonna only leave in all the time, then this lock's just fine. You're gonna lock it and forget about it. Now, if you're gonna be using the accessory or removing it from your hitch all the time, throw in the back of your vehicle, put it in the garage, then I suggest the etrailer locking hitch pin because that's gonna be easier to operate if you're gonna be using it a whole bunch. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and hope this helped. Bystander Yeah.

Pros: Fits, locks tight, felt very secure
Cons: longer so it slid back and forth, the lock is so secure, it is almost impossible to unlock it by yourself. Tried several times when I put it on. I gave up, drove around, came home, and tried again. Magically,I was able to get it unlocked on my first try. Moving forward, not using it and avoiding this hassle. Will get a T shaped locking end instead.

This was exactly what i was looking for. I just got a new truck and I but a nice US Flag receiver hitch cap. The thing looked awesome but was pretty cheap off [online]. I use a simple cotter key hitch lug and within a couple days it was stolen. I looked online and found this item which turned out to be just the ticket. Shipping was fast and this locking hitch lug is secure and perfect for my needs.

The lock itself I really cant say good or bad as I have no experience with these, although the locking end seems a little wobbly when locked, for some reason I just expect a really snug fit when attached, time will tell. The etrailer service was great, fast shipping & updates every step.

It works. I suspect I could break this open by prying on the lock with a screw driver but it is a deterrent and fits snugly.

Outstanding. Easy install. Been on the truck for a year and looks as good as they day I installed it.

Like new, a year into use! Great item!

by:

Used one of these in a standard 2" receiver. the lock worked well. My other lock is a very tight fit and does not have any play when you lock it. These have a little bit of play. Wish they were tighter when you lock them in place. Thus I am taking a star off.

by:

Quality built and nice color. Great price too. Only issue is that it does not fit my 2 in by 2 in tow hitch receiver. It's about a few millimeters short and doesn't have enough length to lock. So basically it can't lock.

by:

Great lock and never any problems. It was well worth the money to help keep my hitch locked from being removed while on the road and parking.

by:
