Is Spacer Included With Curt 13018 Hitch Needed When Installing on 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML350  

Question:

The installation instructions say to usethe 1/2inch spacer plate if you have a outboard mounted spare tire. My spare is carried under the vehicle and lowered when needed. In this case do I omit using the spacer plate? Mahalo

I spoke with my contact in the engineering department at Curt, who tells me that by 'outboard mounted spare tire', they mean that if the vehicle's spare tire carrier is bolted to the bumper beam, the spacer plate is needed. If it's bolted elsewhere, the spacer will not be needed.

If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness like # C59496, a ball mount like # 2753 and a trailer ball like # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.
